  1. I think Stun was a new setting for blasters on Putting Star Wars to the MythBusters Test · · Score: 1

Developed only after the Jedi were already exterminated, since there is no sign of this setting prior to episode IV. Neener!

  2. Re:Yeah but.... on Nintendo Announces DS Lite · · Score: 1

Newp, but I belive you would want the GP2X which does indeed run teh Linux :) http://www.gbax.com/

  3. Re:Amigas did this at the same time and better :) on First IBM PC Plays Full Motion Sound and Video · · Score: 1

nope. :) full threaded pre-emptive multi-tasking on AmigaDOS 1.0 fitting into 256k of RAM and bootable on a single 170k floppy. :) This was the god-machine of the 80s.

  4. MOD UP FUNNY on NASA Warns of Cluttered Space · · Score: 1

First genuine belly-laugh I've had on Slashdot in ages!

  5. The GP2X beats out the Giz hands down anyway. on Gizmondo Future Looks Bleak · · Score: 2, Insightful

And if you are a /.'er who is unaware of this linux-based handheld media/gameplayer (emulators for near every machine ever emulated under linux up to and including the PSX are either fully emulated or in progress) you need to have your geek license revoked. 10k units already sold on pre-release. :) The Giz was doomed to failure by trying to emulate Sony instead of trying to carve their own niche ala Gamepark.

  6. back-catalog release of top hits is free money. on The Business of Videogame Reprints · · Score: 1

Smart companies could make a lot of money re-issueing their back-catalog every 5 years for backwards-compatible consoles such as the PS2 and upcoming Nintendo Revolution, ala Disney with their back-catalog of movies every new format. A lot of people who may have missed a game on an older format (Castlevania Symphony of the Night PS1, for example) who can't find it for love or money now. Of course there's downloads for emulators or modded units, but that's not the point. There's a lot of legit buyers with unmodded PS2s.

  7. Re:Except for one thing... on Anonym.OS a Boon for Privacy Geeks? · · Score: 1

/shrug it gets posted to a big public tracker, and everyone with a brain uses peerguardian or safepeer plugins, no one knows just what you've downloaded, if anything at all... :)

  8. UK game mags on Print Gaming Magazines Doomed? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Not at all suprised that the UK gaming magazines still have a large and avid readership. When I was a kid, I would pass over US-pressed pap like Vidiot and Electronic Games magazine and get the local WH Smith to import the UK magazines Zzap!64, C+VG and such, the quality and editorial content is about 100% better, funnier and more diverse. The same exists today, in mags like Edge. If the US paper gaming mag industry wants to live, they need more smart writing and lower price tags, and less bulging DVDs of demos no one cares about or they would have downloaded them already.
