You don't need to do that. Simply increase the sales tax. This is what they do in Ohio. Oh and by the way, in Columbus we only have 1.25 percent of the sales tax. That's not alot of money. It might sound like it is, but when buses cost bunches more then a SUV, it does not amount to much.
Dunno about you, but in both cities I spend time in (Columbus, OH and Washington, DC) both have public transportation. Granted, these are large cities. I think what the biggest issue is:
1. Rich people who pay taxes don't use it so when a levy comes up they vote it down because they don't care about the poor or even the middle class.
2. Bus Routes get cut simply because of money issues and low ridership. Never mind that for some people, this is their only way to get around.
3. Routes are laid out without regard for where people really need to go and that makes it inconvenient.
4. Small town's can't afford to run a bus service all of the time. In one town I lived in about 20 years ago, they had bus service but they cut that before I left town.
Bus service gets cut for all of the same reasons Walmart is cutting Layaway....the haves don't want to pay for the have nots.
The reason public transport in the states is inconvenient is we are very spread out. It may not seem so sometimes, but do realize in places like Tokyo they have microhotels with teeny tiny rooms because that's all the room they have for them. In places like the UK or Japan, there's almost no space for sprawl to happen. This one fact makes it much easier for pubic transportation to flourish.
The USERS of YouTube are the issue. NOT YouTube itself. If your making a video to put on YouTube, make sure you have the right to use the music you want to use. My best suggestion is to use Pod Safe Music if you need it at all. This will address the AMV crowd as well as some of the other videos that include music on YouTube.
As for copyrighted TV (like current run TV shows), regular everyday users just should not be posting that stuff. YouTube needs better policing other then the users for that also. I'd say if you post copyrighted material 3 times, you get your account suspended.
Is this really a launch? Can they be purchased today?? No? Then this isn't really a launch then is it? I can order a new Nano and it will be here in a few days to a day. Zune's probably ain't going ot show up until November.....
I have never ever ran into a MP3 player except very old ones that do NOT support VBR MP3's. My 1st Gen Shuffle supports them just fine. Even higher bit rate stuff works on it ok.
I would suggest that you don't do it. Seriously. Next thing you know you'll get blamed for killing their PC even though it's full of spyware or they installed a COOL SCREENSAVER and now you deleted it I want my money back....etc....etc....
If you do decide to do it anyway, charge ALOT for cleaning spyware infestations. They DO take a while to clean, if they can be cleaned, and the more people charge, the more they will start saying hey how do I stop this crap??
Apple did NOT get the G5 from Freescale. That came from IBM. Apple got the G4's from Freescale so the post is PARTIALLY correct. The PowerPC platform still has a strong presence in the server room and is FAR from dying. It just might not be used for desktop stuff anymore.
Buck Rogers bad?? Apparantly you did not value seeing Erin Gray in skintight outfits!:D
Buck Rogers was at least as good as the new BSG is now. I think 10 years from now when the younger generation has fond memories of the current BSG, many will say it sucked!
It's all a point of view thing.
I watched the trouble with tribbles lastnight and the story itself was quite good...still. Sure, the effects sucked but they did not have computers then that could do the effects. The STORY is the important thing.
In my house, I CAN stop them. There's various software even on Windows that will let me lock the computer. Hell I can add a password on the BIOS before I go to bed to prevent the rule breaking. I could also have (and should probably add one anyway) a security camera that has the PC in view. It is SO easy to prevent kids from doing the things you don't want them to do. Kids generally want your favor so you will buy them things like a iPod and what not. Kids also think they are being smart and they won't get caught. Mom and dad almost always caught me when I was doing something I should not. They were RESPONSIBLE, The problem now adays is parents have no friggin spines and they also don't want the responsibility. When a rule is broken, not only do you lock down the device that they broke the rule with but you also take away a priviledge(sometimes it's the same thing....other times it isn't). This is how I was raised. I love my parents for what they did to bring me up right. When I was a kid, my parents did not try to be my friend all of the time....sometimes they were my friend but other times they were the enemy. All of the time (including now) they were my parent.
Your 100 percent correct. MY goal is to NOT have the government make stupid laws that makes life harder on ME. If that meand doing MY JOB as a parent then that is what it means. The US does not need to be my sons nanny.
The world is different now then it was when we were kids man. When I was in high school, the internet was not as wide spread. Computers typically did not even have a modem by default and you were lucky to even have one. By the time my 7 year old is in high school, computers may even be cheaper then they are now. With that said, I never said NO COMPUTERS til your 18....I said no unsupervised computer use until then. Big difference.
Particia Dunn is incompetent and also stupid. She should resign and criminal charges filed.
Now, I want to know, why in hell this crap started?? HP as a company went down hill since Carly's hiring. I just bought a HP printer and the ink carts are incredibly small and the casing of the printer is so flimsy. HP USED to make good printers. I ain't saying it's not working and does not have good output.....it does.....it's just I don't see it lasting as long as my Photosmart P1115 has (6 years and 2 computers....still going strong).
It's not that they didn't fix it. They tried. There's only so much you can do to the ET to fix this problem. This is what happens when you use Cryo fuels. Even with the improvements that were made, when you have the FL humidity freezing on the side of your tank, it has a tendency to work itself into the cracks, expand and then the vibration of launch shakes it loose.
I think NASA has come to the realization that space craft don't need to land like aircraft and that space vehicles need to be designed for launching to and operating in space and not for the landing which is what the shuttle was designed for. Also, modern day astronauts could care less about the space vehicle handling like a airplane (which is what the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts wanted).
Atlantis is T minus 2 hours and 30 minutes from launch and still counting as I post this. They were delayed YESTERDAY! Did the frickin editor READ the story??
Um....I don't know about you, but it sounds like you have never been a parent. It's incredibly EASY to figure out where kids are. Hell I am 35 and my mom still knows what I do. I know what my son does and where he goes. While I will agree that it's impossible to know exactly where they are every second of the day, it's pretty easy to control WHAT they do in your house:
1. NO computer in their room until they are 18. Sorry.....doesn't happen. Not saying they can have thier own, it just WILL NOT be in their room.
2. No computer use period if one of us isn't either home or awake. Break the rules and I will know (I will use Linux and check the access logs....).
3. Any violation of said rules will result in their computer turning into a server for dad's use.
Now I am a geek....things will be different in my house because I know how to do these things. If I didn't, I would only take away the log thing (as I would not know how to do it...thank god I am a geek).
This sounds draconian, but even I did not know enough to stay away from things like this until I was about 20 believe it or not. I remember when I was 20, I met a girl online and went to go meet her at her house. Found out she was 15. She told me she was 19. I counselled her a little and then left a little wiser. If I didn't quiz her on her real age, I could have went to jail and been labelled a sexual predator. From then on, I knew better. The bad thing that may have happened if the roles were reversed and I wasn't a nice guy. Kids simply do not have the where with all to understand how unsafe talking to people online can be especially if they go from the virtual world to meat space.
Oh I accept that at certain times, they will be out of my control. However, it's really easy to just meet the parents of thier best friends. Even simply a phone call would be more then enough for me to get what is going to happen at the friends house. It's surpising to me how many people take the stance that you can't know everything about your child. It must be beneath parents to talk to their kids! By just talking to my son, I knew his friends were Garrick and Nicholas and by the end of the school year, I knew thier parents pretty well and all I did was talk to them. I'd have let him go to either of his best friends house.
It's ok to have friends outside of your kids lives, but it's best to try to make friends with the parents of any of your kids best friends.
Just little things like this makes it pretty easy to know what your kid is doing and when. Its called parental responsibility.
Maybe this should change? I think it's appalling what companies can get away with in the boardroom. Noone said that you have to reveal your company secrets, but things like this ethics violations being hidden is just the icing on the cake. Companies should not have the ability to hide everything. Especially those that are Publicly Traded. Privately owned business don't have to reveal as much as a public company for a reason....they are the only ones hurt when bad news come out. Shareholders have a ton to lose if the Chairmen pulls something like this.
Wait...last I checked, HP was a public company. I know this is different then say a state college, but isn't there some rule or law that says Board meetings have to be open? Isn't there a sunshine law for publicly traded companies? If not just letting anyone who wants to be there in the meeting, employees and shareholders should have a right to be there.
Actually, I am on your side with that! On the other hand, when new content isn't being made, I don't mind sitting down and watching classic scifi series like Buck Rogers and even Star Trek: TOS. Put it this way, I would rather watch repeats then ECW!
I just find it extremely fascinating that their are total rabid fans of something that existed for one season that wasn't even very good. I can TOTALLY understand Star Trek because even with the horrible effects, the stories at the time were different then anything else on tv and were actually good. Of course, I was never a huge Joss Wheadon fan, but come on....cowboy clothing on a space ship??
Personally, I wish that SciFi would show more classic stuff as well as repeat their good stuff more often (BSG is hardly on except when the new ones are coming out).
Yeah. I noticed this after I posted. LORAN may still be available, but I don't know anyone at all that uses it. If I remember right, LORAN recievers were a bit pricey compared to GPS recievers.
What do you mean it doesn't matter if the RF section is different?? This thing is measuring differences in the RF signal. Adding DSP filtering will only be able to accomplish a close approximation. Also, the DSP filter would likely have to pump to another transimitter unless you have a DSP filter that also happens to be a transmitter. To spoof a RF signature would be extremely expensive and would probably also require you to have the exact WiFi card you want to spoof on hand and if you have that card, then why would you want to spoof it?
It's actually not that expensive. It's built in to our repeater. While repeaters are not as cheap as your regular ham rig, they are not that expensive.
And thus, they exist. The fact is, once perfected, this method of aplying some sort of security can be done or it at least can tell you if the Mac on one particular radio is changing. I don't know that I would base a security system on this, but basing a intrusion detection system on this could probably work. You could even possibly lock out intruders for a 10-15 minute period or even longer.

Um....because it doesn't work with Slashcode? Um....maybe because there's still a hell of a lot of perl involved??? (Cause Taco like's PERL).
I would suggest that you don't do it. Seriously. Next thing you know you'll get blamed for killing their PC even though it's full of spyware or they installed a COOL SCREENSAVER and now you deleted it I want my money back....etc....etc....
