Actually, these councils and troops who do come out anti gay and making you be a Christian (NOT a national policy by any means) are not actually following the TRUE scouting principles. Making anti gay remarks or remarks against any person is not good scouting behavior. The only thing that the scout law asks of scouts is that they put their religion at a high level of importance....whatever it is. You CAN say they ask that you believe in god.....not the Christian God, the Jew God or Allah....GOD. The only people who may have an issue is atheists and your post advertises this well. Atheists, Gay Scouts and others should not be turned away. Also, as I am a leader now, there's NO WHERE on the form where it asks your sexual orientation. It does ask that you make a commitment to a religious faith and anything concerning religion in the scouts is non sectarian. Also, as the BSA is also a part of World Scouting, there's no rule in the BSA that states you MUST be a Christian. They just ask that you hold a religious belief. Don't believe me? Read the leadership application: http://www.scouting.org/forms/28-501D.pdf
BSA gets a bad rap because of some councils that have some ass hats running them.
As a former scout and a leader, your post could not be more wrong. First, it's not good scout behavior to bash gays. Also, I will quote the scout law:
" A Scout is Trustworthy.
A Scout tells the truth. He is honest, and he keeps his promises. People can depend on him. A Scout is Loyal.
A Scout is true to his family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and nation. A Scout is Helpful.
A Scout cares about other people. He willingly volunteers to help others without expecting payment or reward. A Scout is Friendly.
A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He offers his friendship to people of all races and nations, and respects them even if their beliefs and customs are different from his own. A Scout is Courteous.
A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows that using good manners makes it easier for people to get along. A Scout is Kind.
A Scout knows there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. Without good reason, he does not harm or kill any living thing. A Scout is Obedient.
A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobeying them. A Scout is Cheerful.
A Scout looks for the bright side of life. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy. A Scout is Thrifty.
A Scout works to pay his own way and to help others. He saves for the future. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property. A Scout is Brave.
A Scout can face danger although he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at him or threaten him. A Scout is Clean.
A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He chooses the company of those who live by high standards. He helps keep his home and community clean. A Scout is Reverent.
A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others."
He RESPECTS the belief of others. The scouts ask you to take your religion....whatever it is....to be one of the top things in your life. The word God is not a Christian word. Jew's use it and so do other religions. Even the Muslim Allah is God. The word GOD should not be an offense to anyone other then atheists who do not believe in any god. There's nothing in the scout handbook that is anti gay. The only reason that the gay leader issue came up was some misguided parents think that all gays are pedophiles. On the leader application, there's no line asking what your sexual orientation is! You can stay in the closet and be a leader. Pass the Youth Protection Training course and understand that as a adult leader, your never to be alone with a scout. Always 2 leaders.
Now, I think that piracy is wrong. No if and or buts about it. It's CONTRARY to being a good scout! The Scout Slogan is DO a good turn daily. How is downloading a movie from P2P doing a good turn? The subjects of the badge are valid! People CAN be hurt by rampant downloading. If it continues. For those who say it sells more movies....your wrong. I know some people that after downloading it, they burn it to DVD on their own and never buy it. The only ones who say they do have some weird values......if you want to see if a movie is good enough to buy, rent it from netflix or someplace else.
The only reason I am against SOME of the MPAA actions is that I want the RIGHT to watch the movie on Linux and on any portable device I buy be it a iPod, laptop, Zune...
DFSG Be damned....I'd rather see the Debian folks contributing TO Firefox. This will eventually create a fork. Sure, Iceweasel may be vanilla firefox now, but I would rather see a understanding. Not this weirdness with the logo causing "issues".
Sorry, IT does not control that. The users and managers do and if the users are stupid, they will continue to use SSN's until a corporate policy prevents it. I have screamed bloody murder about this 100's of times, yet it falls on deaf ears.
No, we cannot educate the government. At least in the US, we can RUN to BECOME the government. That's the solution. However, with politics being a dirty dirty game, most techies won't drop to a politicians level.
The military has been doing this for a while now or will be doing this soon so that Command and Control centers can get setup much more quickly. Setup the dish and they are on the Milnet and all set to support the handheld units in the field.
PowerPC is NOT defunct. There's plenty of PowerPC servers around. You have IBM's Pseries and a host of other smaller companies. PLUS there's a ton of good PowerPC based Mac's out there that you can still run Linux on. PowerPC is still out there.
The wacky hours it was does it sometimes, but one thing I do is INSIST on:
A Company Provided Laptop Remote access VIA VPN, SSH or whatever. If possible, some sort of corporate paid or compensated High Speed Access. Net Accessible KVM
Once you have those, and any software you may need, insist on doing as much as possible from home for the scheduled outages. Not everything can be done that way. but alot of it can. AT least then you can spend all day with the family and not have to go anywhere once the outage starts.
Insist on backups....cross train others in the critical things. When your on vacation, your on vacation....the backup should be the ONLY person to call you if something hits the fan.
Jobs don't cause divorces.....stupid decisions do. If your Boss is a prick, remind him there is such as thing in the US as labor laws. You are only obligated to put in 40 a week. If you don't get overtime, don't work overtime. Anything over 50 hours a week is going overboard.
Exactly what I was going to say. A free wifi network is NOT your network. Just because someone else is being a asshat doesn't mean you need to be one as well.
I was just thinking think of all the labor that would be saved if they just let product placements take over for ads and let any person who wants to post the show on GoogleTube. Does anyone else know of a more efficient method of distribution then a un DRM'd Video posted in a variety of different qualities on P2P networks all by fans of the show within MINUTES of the show ending?? Think about it! They may be able to get GOOD actors instead of the halfwits they have now!
Organic definitions are highly suspect in my opinion. What does Organic mean? Some companies try to side step it. Some companies are totally honest. If you go by the chemical definition of organic, then many of the regular veggies not in the organic section are organic. Some pesticides fit the organic definition (chemically). The only thing I have seen in stuff that is truly grown with no chemicals is that it does not last as long and is usually NOT better for you then the organic stuff. It's also usually smaller when dealing with fruit. How does a free range chicken differ from one who's caged?? Noone can really give a correct answer.
Also, I can't see at all how GM food can contribute to cancer. How would doing a LOGICAL genetic modification create a carcinogen?? No one can give a straight answer on this. I mean it's not like they are making these changes with no logic behind them. They obviously will test it before feeding it to humans. Us humans seem to be a little less adventurous now then we were back when alot of the stuff we depend on to day was developed. What would have happened to Pasteur if he tried to pasteurize milk today??
With all of that said, if you insist on Natural or Organic things, check out Trader Joe's. At least they have decent prices.
Media focuses on bad cases....what bad cases?? Olean fried chips?? They just gave ya a bit of anal leakage and that was a rare event. I personally felt no different eating both the Olean chips and the regular greasy ones....both made me react badly if I ate too many of them. When eaten in moderation, I had no effect.
They are being greedy and also focused on the one part that DVD's have....the movie. The only thing iTunes has that a DVD does is a inferior copy of the movie. When you buy DVD's, you get so much more. You get menus and other content you simply do not get on the download. You get making of clips and many things that some people do not like, but I personally think is worth the extra 2 bucks.
I would NEVER take our main CCisco driven backbone down and replace it with Open Source. Again, support is the issue. If there's an issue with the router, Cisco probably definitely knows about it....even the obscure. Sometimes they don't, but they still help you anyway. Can support contracts be had for a Open Source router?? Will the support actualy help me or tell me something like L1nux R0x0rs, RTFM y0u n00b?
Let's think about this.....a report from a ANTI VIRUS VENDOR!! Anyone want to make a bet when Symantec will make a Firefox Extension for scanning for malicious websites......AND make you pay for it??
Don't try to convert people when you are fixing their computer. They will just want what they had before which was Windows. The time to catch them is when they are ready for a new computer, or when they are really frustrated with having to come back to you again to get the spyware cleaned off. If they are just asking to replace the motherboard or their machine doesn't have any spyware on it, they will just want their issue fixed.
BOTH Dems and Republicans have the ability to exploit electronic voting systems. I have the ability to do it too. Blindly assuming the Republican's have with out irrefutable proof is wrong. Even though media which IS biased to either side depending on the source (Reps to Foxnews and Dems to CNN)may have made there own supposition, I am pretty sure noone has really been fingered for this yet because if they did, we'd be using paper or some other means already.
Yes I understand the working code. That isn't the issue. It should work before the users get it. That much is obvious. In my book, end user testing has brought out more then any test suite can. Users can spot things MUCH easier then a computer program can.
Horseshit. Writing to pass the test which was written first is absolute horseshit. First, writing JUST a test script is utter nonsense. The only true way to test these things is to have a USER test it. So frigging what if the test passes....if the user doesn't like the arrangement of the controls or the color of them then you have to change it....yeah, it's crap, but trust me...I would rather NOT have 400 different colors (if you let them change this on their own) to look at when I go to try to fix something for someone when something runs amok (sometimes users pick the most eye bleeding colors....). Yes, those are minor things but the fact is the USER is the one who picks them. A computer program can't test that the color is eye pleasing. A computer program also cannot test every single scenario that a user can come up with. One thing I have learned is NEVER underestimate the idiotic things users can come up with.
I only ask one thing....PROOF. Not ONE instance have I seen anyone able to prove what is in the article. In fact, the local news here did a story on this right after the election (oh and by the way, Kerry won our county.....Franklin County, OH) and the only thing that they did seem to find was there was not enough machines at the polling locations. That's it. Nothing more. IN fact, because of this situation, the board of elections kept most polls open longer then the regular closing time. If there were still people in lines at the posted closing time, they let them vote.
This is just more democrats whining about not winning the election.
