    You know, solid state is going to very soon look more appealing then anything else for storage and even for booting a PC like OS. Read only OS on compact flash? Sure. This would not only be a good idea, but a good thing for security. Less moving parts is always a good thing. And I think that Intel and AMD both know they need to do something about the power of these beasties. 350 W, 450 W and even 550 W Power Supplies are out and mostly because of the processor and the multiple drives alot of us are starting to really gain affinity for. DVD-RW drives will obsolete the need for more then one other 5 1/4 drive (unless you want to copy a disk, but then you could always copy it down to your massive hard disk....). Eventually, soon, you may even be able to boot fully functional Windows, or a special version of it on a cd for trouble shooting. Even booting a full Linux distro off of a CD will be possible too (I know it's mostly there now, but usually the cd bootable ones have stuff missing). The 1/44 MB 3.5 inch drive will go bye bye and be replaced by the DVD-RW and for smaller yet tech, CF cards or SD cards. Apple started getting rid of 3.5 inch floppies. We could get rid of them too but they still hang around our necks like a shackle. How would you flash a bios with out a floppy you say? How about create a small, bootable iso image with Linux and then flash it that way? ASUS has Live Update and it works, mostly. Never had it fry my bios anyway. I still feel uncomfortable doing this especially since there is a risk the OS could crash during the flash procedure. MB Companies need to do something here too. Using AFLASH is becoming harder because it's getting harder to create that dos diskette. If you have Windows XP or Windows ME, with exception of ME's emergency boot diskette, you cannot create a bootable floppy with format a: /s.

    In any event, these PC's along with others that finally start to look at what users want (cheap, powerful machines that can do any PC game with out having to buy a 300 dollar vid card) instead of the bottom line are what they will go for. Eventually, PC's that cost 2-3 thousand dollars will come with a screen comparable to a big screen TV. For us normal folks, we can be happy with a nice 15-17 inch screen and only have to pay about 200 bucks for top o da line..It will happen and sooner before later. IN 5 years, Hard disks could be obsoleted with the exception of those who need LARGE storage (storage like 2-4 TB Storage). Thos who need multi TB's of storage will still use harddisks, while us 100-200 GB Folks will be using CF cards.

To me, working at a dot com would have made me feel like I was depending on the Lottery for retirement. That's not to say that anyone was wrong for what they did though.

    I blame it on the genxer dropped out of college that decided he'd start a company (without his degree) and make more money then he'd make as a graduate (like that can really happen) and then decided oh let's have a fully stocked gourmet kitchen for our employee's to use for free. Let's have breaks for as long as you want whenever you want. Let's have utopia. Well, in the situation they were in the set themselves up for failure. While this was going on I was slaving away working in a Community College. I may not have made what the commers were making, but I have now been here long enough that I am vested and every dollar I put into the pension fund is matched by the college. I plan on retiring from here. I don't have a 401k (maybe look into 403b if we every get them), I don' own stock. I would only buy stock if I could afford to loose the money I would invest (I can't, so I don't). I did not let a mortgage company or home builder pressure me into a house I could not afford. What's happened to me? I still have a job, I still have my house (although there are a lot of empties in my neighborhood). Do I want a bigger house? Sure, but I can't afford it. My mission is to try to climb out of debt and try not to go any further in debt. So far I have done ok, but there have been things happening lately....ever have everything in you house or household decide to die or break all at the same time? We were careful though and we intend to not use credit cards for holiday shopping. I hope to have at least 3-4 presents bought next week. As soon as I am out of debt I plan on staying out as much as possible, with exception of maybe a car payment and a house payment. I do not want a 300,000 dollar house (150,000 to 200,000 would be fine). I don't feel my peak earning years have happened just yet (in fact, I will soon be making enough money that I can take care of most of the bills and my wife will work long enough to get our credit cards and some other things paid off. After that, she's being a mom. SO, quit saying I am or most of the people born the year I was (1971) are wrecked. We have plenty of time before we're history.

    "If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
    if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.

    So doesn't it stand to reason that a Christian would not mind hiring a non Christian? Christians want everyone to know that god loves them unconditionally and wants them to come to him. Christians do want everyone they see to be saved. One cannot be forced or coerced into being "saved" but they and they alone have to make that choice. In any case, I have yet to see/hear of any Christian business restriciting their hiring to Chrstians, save for maybe a Christian School (well DUH!). I know of one gentlemen in the area who is a Christian and owned a larged car dealership. He would hire anyone that qualifies, Chrsitian or not. My wifes company has scripture in their mission statement and have created a work at home program specifically for moms (a very Christian thing to do) and they hire non Christians. That's just two examples. A Christian business not wanting to hire a non-believer is so contrary to Christian belief that I would have to ask are they really Christian? The bible states that you should go whee your enemies are many times. This is by far the best way to advance the faith.

    We could care less what Microsoft does so long as they are acting within the law. So far, they have with exception of a few things. I don't care what liberal court said that they are a monopoly. A REAL Monopoly means you don't have a choice at all and the fact is we DO have choices. Linux is a choice even if it does not have Office. Macintosh is a choice. OpenBSD is a choice. FreeBSD is a choice. These are all choices that can be made in software and I am sure there are more. Just because you hold the market share does not necessarily mean you have a monopoly. Rush Limbaugh is on the Microsoft side mostly but not because it's a big corporation, but because he does not see it as a monopoly. BTW, Rush is a STAUNCH Mac user. Conservatives generally don't care so long as a company has acted in it's best interests and that they have followed the letter of the law. The RIAA is not a company in a way it's more like a union then a company. And the RIAA is, mostly acting in it's best interests, or their members best interests. I never said the RIAA and Microsoft are completely without fault. They have both done some wrong things. That does not immeadiately brand them as bad company. They had to do something very right to be where they are.

    Also, Conservatives can be religious but it's not a strict identifier either. I happen to be relatively religious. I read the Bible at least 1-3 times a week. I pray. For real and specifically, not those little prayers everyone does. Religion happens to fit pretty good with the conservative agenda but is by no means a mantra for most conservatives.

    Conservatives generally don't want or see a need for any more regulation. In fact, we want less regulation. If you want to "label" me something other then conservative, you can label me a Constitutionalist. I frankly think that, with exception of safety laws that can be managed by the states, that all the feds really need is the Constitution. All of the other laws they have made, while not all conflict with the constitution, some do and can be gotten rid of. Examples of this is some of the Homeland security stuff (one subject I vary greatly with Bush). If the laws that were ALREADY on the books were enforced properly, then 9/11 would have never happened.

    For those conspiracists that say they let it happen, well, that's utter BS (AKA Barbra Striesand). Some of these guys should have never been let in and the bad part is is the FBI and CIA new about these guys but they did not communicate this to the INS at all. The thing about the conspiracy folks that just makes me shake my head is that they say they do this and that and it's a conspiracy.....do you think if they were capapble of that that they would have just made the right descisions in the first place? Do you think if they were intelligent enough to hide these things from us that they would have had the smarts to realize years ago when we were helping Saddam that it may backfire on us??? This is why Conspiracy crap is just that....crap. They can't even get together and design/appropriate funds for a true shuttle replacement let alone hide this stuff from us that some folks say they are. The problem I have with alot of people is they treat the elected officials like they are kings. The thing is, ANYONE who is a citizen can be elected to office. If you hate the powers in office, then run yourself or elect new ones. That's what is so great about this country. Campaign Finance reform is nothing but a restriction on free speech. They are saying you can't deliver your message x days before an election and noone should be able to do this. This law was supposedly made to make it easier for the folks with less money for the election to get elected. The fact is is that it does nothing of the sort.

    I am slewing offtopic, but I am trying to show examples that most liberals can only think about things that will get them into office instead of actually doing a good job at what they do. Exmples are abound there. Republicans aren't ansolved of this thinking either. As against witchcraft as I am, I still let my son particpate in Trick or Treat. Trick or Treats origins are from the druids (Celebration for Samhain I think....) and are satanic, but I personally let my son dress up in good things. No scary stuff, no monsters. Sorry. He can dress up as his favorte NASCAR driver or something like that. I plan to put tracts in with my treats too this year. Basically we celebrate Halloween (or Harvest Festival or whatever you want to call it) by bringing god into a holiday that there usually isn't. Bible says to go where your enemies are and not to avoid them. Everyone trys to remove god from Christmas (those that do call it Winter Festival or maybe Saturnalia yet they have the same images we do (snowmen, Santa Claus)), so why can't we bring god into a fall celebration?

    Just heard on the radio that someone where I work (I am off today) wore a T-shirt with GW Bush's make no mistake quote as their tribute to 9/11. They were asked to take it off. My employer denies it, yet the person who wore the T-shirt is on the radio. First off, this is AMERICA! You CANNOT do that! If you ask your emplyees to dress patriotically, to some, it's easier ot go get a t-shirt. That's what they did. This is a totally PC move on their part and stupid beyond belief. I remember on the 12th I had brought some flags to stick on my monitor and my boss asked me why I brought them in (DUH!). AT the time I worked wiht a co-worker who was Islamic. I told him why and he told me I shouldn't have brought them in. I had a discussion with him an dhe realized that he had made a mistake Basically, I said I could take to HR about it if you want....he decided to be quite...that and the multitudes of stupid employers that were doing this were being riducled on the news and talk radio circuit. Funny thing was the muslim I worked with was not offended at all by it and she appreciated me bringing them in. People people people. We need to KILL politacally correctness. It's tearing the country apart. Noone is wrong because they hold a view different than yours and noone's opinion should be supressed. This is America and we have the right to say anything we damn well want! Be it print, a T-shirt, your car or truck or whatever.

    And this is the bullcrap I was talking about in my post. The cavity searches aren't finding anything. Now, the increased awareness this has caused has casue the CIA and FBI to catch things before they happen. Like they guy they caught with in 2 miles of the whitehouse with an arsenal. Like the freaks with the pic of Osama and all kind of chemicals and bomb making equipment. All of this TSA bullcrap has not done anything to "increase" security. The CIA and FBI actually doing their jobs has. Why were there not A-A batteries by the whitehouse already?
