It looks like these rules will be a good thing, they should stop politicians from paying "independent" bloggers to mouthpiece for them.
I didn't quite read into them enough to know though.
Page rank is completely broken, it looks like google realizes this and it doesn't seem to affect search results as much as it used to. Page rank mostly has to do with link webs, and it looks like google finally detected that the website in question was linking to a bunch of pointless crap so decided to tank its page rank. It could have tanked it's position in the search result in many other ways.
Proof that pagerank is broken: my livejournal has a (live) page rank of 5 (going down to 4 occasionally). This and that I've seen how easily PR can be inflated.
A gimmicky headline like this, although it will bring me over from my feed, won't accomplish much more. Articles should aim to be intelligent and informative, not just to get you to read them.
Gaming is just a medium, especially as gaming grows more mainstream gamers are as likely to have a unified political voice as people who watch television.
I think that designing the internet so that we have these entities called ISPs was a mistake in the first place. Lawyers might soon be able to convince the govt that ISPs can do this sort of thing because the customers are accessing their computers, and they are allowed to restrict access to computers they own in any way they want to.
I think this is a wake up call, we must commit a substantial amount of resources towards designing and implementing fast, efficient, secure, and above all PRIVATE mesh networks.
My mom is 100% in support of this absurd argument the RIAA has made.
This means that it's likely that a majority of Americans are as well (remember, less then half of Americans have broadband).
They're probably going to lose this case, and we're probably going to lose this fight.
They're going to try to make encryption illegal at some point, because it makes it easier to hide the fact that your sharing illegal stuff.
If encryption is illegal, then that means that stuff like the freenet will be illegal as well.
It's possible we could lose not only this battle, but the whole damn war.
1$ salaries are great, they cost your business very little and you don't have to pay any kind of taxes on them. I'm surprised all high level executives don't opt for similar salaries.
Why is an article like this on slashdot anyway? Everyone knows that slashdot users are immune to spyware, adware, popup ads, spam, worms, hoaxes and virus.
It would have helped if the article had included comparisons between different well known colleges. It would be very helpful information for any slashdot readers searching for colleges, because I'm guessing most of us want to go to colleges where people have some common sense.
Being a frequent livejournal user, I can tell you all with confidence that LJ has a very small population of emos.
Why the hell would any emo make a livejournal when they could make a deadjournal or a Xanga?
It would be awesome if during April fools all of this stuff turned out to be true.
Then at midnight everything went back to normal.
BUBS' CONCES5ION STAND. The number one supplier of wireless extension cords since a few weeks ago or something.
Isn't students vs hackers like blue vs cyan?

This gives me the perfect opportunity to practice. Next time I won't be in for nearly as long.
How is anti spyware a buissness? Doesn't everyone just use Ad-aware and Spybot?
Yes
Click fraud, DRM, "rich media ads".

Tis a symptom of the widespread problem corporations have with hiring many stupid people instead of a few smart people.
The methanol-powered Antig fuel cell provides 45 watts of power on a single "tank" of methanol, and weighs 3.7 pounds
Isn't that heavier then my laptop?
I've realized that I already have bad karma, so I'm going to go ahead and say this:
FUCK!
If a computer addiction has ruined the life of anyone here, I encourage them to stand up now.

But if we had broadband inflight, then we'd have to listen to the jerk next to us yelling "BOOM HEADSHOT" nonstop, right?
Maybe I'm just jealous that I can't really afford one, but I refuse to buy an iPod or a cell until they're meshed together into one super device.
