IE will use the W3C box model if you include an appropriate DOCTYPE in your page (as per the standards) thereby triggering "strict" rendering mode. The box model is only broken if you use"quirks" mode rendering.
Interesting. Do you know any easy way if I can tell if IE is in quirks or standards mode? With Firefox I have the web developer toolbar which gives me instant feedback. Is there anything remotely similar in IE7?
Right clicking and going to properties doesn't work either.
Want an easy 20-second test of whether someone is really a close friend or just an acquaintance? Tell them you want to get a sex change and watch their reaction.
Awesome! That means I have tons of close livejournal friends.
Also, telling your credit card company not to pay them will result in paper bills for the charges and if you don't pay those you'll get turned over for collection.
As mentioned above AOL collection mucle = ZERO. Tis a very happy thing.
What does this teach kids? It teaches them that to get what they want they need to download utorrent, go to sites like isohunt and learn how to use DAEMON Tools.
If the kid really wants GTA Cop Killa edition he's going to be able to get the game. If it's a little kid it's the parents who buy the game for him anyway, and if it's a bigger kid then after failing to get it from the store one of his friends is going to tell him about the things I mentioned above.
This is yet another law that targets innocent kids. People will say that the point of the law is to protect kids from the games, but it's really to protect the adults from the kids. There wasn't that much anti video game sentiment until after Columbine. This law has the effect of hitting two birds with one stone, it supposedly stops kids from becoming violent, and it gives the cops and excuse to arrest kids on sight for piracy.
The biggest puzzle here is: why are "minors" the ones that grownups are afraid of? I don't know why either but for some reason they are. They keep us locked up in school all day, and the reason I get for that type of thing when I ask is something along the lines of "it makes it so you don't have a bunch of kids running through the streets unsupervised".
Then you have an assortment of other laws along those lines as well. Minors aren't allowed to drive cars, their not allowed to vote. I may sound kind of crazy here, but after reading this article I'm starting to see a pattern.
Good in theory, but if a college student is downloading gigs of mp3s, then they are not a fan of any one small band enough to go out and buy any CDs (they won't download the latest single from iTunes either due to DRM being a pain). If file sharing was heavily prosecuted then they'd listen to the radio.
I think if FM radio didn't SUCK now, then a lot of college students would turn to that to get their random music fix instead of bit torrent / emule.
FTA: Lessig would like to see copyright reduced to 14 years, renewable to 28
I think that we should gradually scale down the copyright lengths. If it happens suddenly big business would react and try and bring them back up.
If copyright lengths were gradually scaled down people would eventually realize that we're better without copyright existing at all.
That reminds me. A friend of mine went to England on vacation and she said when she got back to New York City it smelled horrid.

If a site like livejournal.com agreed to hand out more userpics to firefox users, then livejournal users would switch over to firefox en masse.
You can catch more flies with honey then with vinegar. And IE users are a lot like flies.
Has anyone looked at their error console after loading this site.
Console2 for FF gave me 72 warning and errors for javascript + css (a lot of them were relating to it trying to change my cursor...)
I thought we here at slashdot were 1337 enough to build out own computers and pirate the OSs.
So why are we comparing a mac to a dell anyway?
Oh ya, and you can install OS X on a windows box making any software arguments irrelevant.
I'm supplied consultant wasn't on there.
I knew someone who was a consultant. They told me they got payed tons of money to show corporate bosses pie charts and tell them they had to fire more people all day.
I officially love slashdot's tagging system. It's really accurate and descriptive.
Right clicking and going to properties doesn't work either.
That's actually a possibility...
How is that guy so good at predicting EVERYTHING.

Get this book: Invaluable. Read it, from start to finish. It's that good.
I dunno about that book. The site is very very buggy in firefox. If you using linux isn't firefox what your going to be using to browse the site?

Ya, AMD and Intel seem to have pretty equally priced low end processors these days.
I've always just looked at the reviews and the values and the speed and chosen the one that fits the computer I want to build the best.
Forgive my stupidity. I deserve negative karma penalties for that...
Just one question, why the hell would they test it on a game as gay as UT2k4?
I would take the results much more seriously if it were half life 2 or something.
That reminds me.

I personally don't care if someone impersonates my identity and takes all my money.
It's really really hard to explain why though...
I know herding cats is harder then herding turtles, but I'd still rather be a cat then a turtle :P

So it's official. Firefox renders CSS 2 better then Opera, despite what the acid2 test says
*shudder*

Why is this labeled as funny dispite being 40% insightful???
/me does a little dance.
Finally, now my brain can begin recovering...
*whew*
Look what this "joke" did to my friend here!
