Although your point of joe consumer not knowing the difference is accurate.

  2. Consumers Dont Want Source on Kurt Seifried On The Danger Of Binary RPMs · · Score: 2

Consumers dont want source.....they want binaries.

Asking your average consumer to compile their software is very, very unfriendly....prone to error and generally a bad idea if you really want Linux to be a consumer desktop.

If linux is ever going to make it as a consumer OS then there is going to have to be some sort of compromise between ultimate security and ultimate ease of use.

    How presumptuous.

I bet the author is something like 21 with no kids and some wacko idea of what it is like to be a parent these days. Slashdot is so sickingly liberal, and is inhabited by people who, for the most part, are kids in college or young adults who don't have kids of their own.

That means most of you do not have any clue what it means to be a parent today.

Trust me *boys*....the older you get the more conservative you will become, and all of the nonsense the higher educational system imparts on you will quickly fade.

TV is bad. It is mind numbing entertainment and in this house it is on for about 1 hour a day. Both of my kids have been taught that tv is not good for them.

But to say that the V-chip is bad just because some outside organization rates a show, and you might think that a 13 year old should be exposed to just about anything for the experience, or, probably so you can win some sort of dysfunctional free speech argument, I only need to point to a few infamous locations here in the US to dispute your argument....lets start with Columbine high school in Colorado. Lets then move on down to San Diego. You know...thats where teenagers are blowing other teenagers away faster then aDuke Nukem can say "Damn I'm looking good".

If you don't like the V-chip...turn YOURS off. Leave MINE alone you hypocritical free expression at all costs liberal! Hollywood is fascinated with violence and it is simply not good for our kids to be continually immersed in it. If the phone rings and I am out of the room for 15 minutes, I would appreciate a TV with a V-chip and you can bet I would have it dialed down pretty low!

The prospect of large cable companies is disheartening. Their customer service sucks because they do not have anything that approaches competition. They think they are entitled to my business and they act like it.

MS is out of the business of promoting Sun technology and has moved on to bigger and better things.

The Java threat to MS was the idea that somehow Java could become the OS. As we all know, this was more hype than reality. Java apps are slower than dog pooh and never really constituted a desktop threat. MS was being paranoid of their monopoly.

..comments regarding the Net and video games aside. Those really are minor issues in the scheme of things.

    Why you ask?

    1) Bush is the only guy who seems to be saying "I trust you with your lives."

    2) Have you looked at your paycheck recently? I find it so insultiung that the government gets upwards of 40% of my money when you look at all of the taxes I pay to everyone with their hand out (Federal/State/Local) and let me tell you....I am in the middle of the middle class!! That in effect means I work January-->April for the government and May-->December for my young family.

    3) He is also the only guy up there who has the courage to admit that the Social Security system we now have is hopelessly broke due to the impending demographic changes. Unless we move away from the current system and move towards self financed social security, we will not see social security around when we need it. Having 1/3 of the system being self financed is better than 0. If we don't move towards that, we will be pumping tens of thousands of dollars into a system that will fail or be so scaled back when we retire bthat it will be useless. When I say we....I am talking about those us us in the 18-45 crowd. Anyone over 45 should be guaranteed their benefits because they have been in the system for 1/2 of a normal working career.

    4) Finally, vote for Bush because the guy has some semblence of integrity. You might not like what he says, but his message has been consistent since day 1. Leno jumped all over Gore the other night.....

"Al Gore ... he once was pro-life, now he's pro-choice. He once was against gun control, now he's for it. He claimed he invented the Internet. Hey, Gore just needs to debate himself!"

"Our country has come a long way: first we had George Washington, who couldn't tell a lie. Then we had Bill Clinton, who couldn't tell the truth. And now we have Al Gore, who can't tell the difference..."

To all of you Linux Hypocrites out there who are spitting on a legitimate GNU/Free Software project, I have a few words for you. KBasic could, in fact catapult Linux onto many corporate desktops almost overnight, I would like to remind all of you that if it were not for the toolset M$ provides to actually code something for the Windows platform, I don't think that corporate America would have remained stuck in Windows for so long.

Certainly Visual Basic is is one of those tools. The bottom line in corporate America is that a button is a button and a combo box is a combo box, and a text box is a text box. Corporate America wants tools that are easy to use so they can:

    1) connect to their databases
    2) put stuff into them, pull stuff out of them,
3)and maybe show the user a little something along the way.

It seems like the KBasic team has the vision thing and all of you who posted negatively about a VB or Basic clone, will be kissing their feet in a few years.
