  1. Re:Obvious, but are they porting MS Office to ARM? on Microsoft: No Windows 8 ARM Support For x86 Apps · · Score: 1

will WinARM even have a desktop mode?? If so why??

Agreed. None of this makes any sense except against the backdrop that this is Microsoft and it's just another "me too" attempt. Sounds to me like they are making certain that no businesses will ever be upgrading beyond 7 for the foreseeable future. They already have WP7 for the smaller devices, so where is the justification for going this direction with Win 8?

I really think Microsoft has lost all sense of direction and purpose here. No, more so than the last few times. Win 8 could end up being an even bigger disaster than Vista.

  2. Business Classes v. Computer Classes on British Schoolkids To Be Taught Computer Coding · · Score: 1

Good to see that they are placing Word and Excel classes outside the province of "Computer" classes, probably in the realm of Business Classes as they should be. I get very upset when I see my own children in a "Computer" class learning how to use Word or Excel. It's a total waste off my kids time. Anyone who needs a class in order to use these simple apps is beyond help. Sounds like these people are at least pointed in the right direction.

I agree with you 100%. I have a 10 inch Netbook already. It's too big for certain situations. I'd love to find that 7 inch touch screen that you describe. The Gorilla glass you mention is a must and while you'd like rounded corners, I'd appreciate rubberized shock-resistant corners (possible we're describing the same thing here).

Personally, I only need wireless but maybe 3G or LTE could be an option. Then give me a charger/dock where I can rest this thing near a >20inch screen, 5.1 surrounds and full keypad whilst it charges so I can do serious writing or watch a movie. I'd be good to go with that.

I really think that what you and I describe would be the best form factor and I'm surprised as well that we don't see more people calling for this form factor. Maybe people are just getting used to the idea of what size works where. And I haven't really seen anyone push the the charger/dock very hard or do it well. Give it time.

If only it were that simple. I think what B&N is saying is that a Microsoft employee was notified on 3 separate occasions that at least one of these patents would not issue because of prior art and that employee deliberately and knowingly withheld that information from the U.S. patent examiners in violation of U.S. patent law. IANAL and all that.

Now, what if that patent was used in the er, negotiations with HTC or other companies that have agreed to pay these license fees?

  17. You Have No Idea on A Million Kids Misdiagnosed with ADHD? · · Score: 1

A couple of times over the years, we have forgotten our son's morning dose of Adderall. Invariably he ends up in the principal's office and some well meaning administration staffer calls me on the phone to "come and get him because we simply can't do anything with him". I ask the staffer to get him a Mountain Dew and give it 20 minutes to work and that usually helps. Once however the staffer said "You have no idea" whilst describing his behavior. Oh, did she ever just punch my button! His dosage has been set so that the medication only lasts until the end of his school day so that by the time I get home from work, we have our normal little hyperactive child who can't concentrate, can't sit still, can't be quiet and doesn't stop until he falls asleep around 10:00. We can't medicate our child later in the day because he would then have difficulty falling asleep. I explained this to the exasperated staffer and added "Welcome to my world."

For those of you that claim that some parents over-medicate their children to make their own job of parenting easier, it really doesn't work that way. Often times, parents of ADHD kids have to work way harder than any other parent to keep their ADHD child from getting into trouble, to help the child focus on completing tasks such as getting their homework done and maintaining harmony with siblings.
