Ironic, isn't it, how a comment ranting about non-conformist posts getting modded down itself gets modded up. Being a rebel isn't always a thankless task, it seems.
I saw some testing of systems in '95, I can tell you for a fact that they would have failed in some very spectacular ways.
I smell a rat. My old windows 3.1 box worked fine when the millenium turned, as did everybody else's machines that were made way before "y2k compliance" was an issue. I doubt "pooring over code" had much to do with that.
So the solution, of course, is to take away our freedom.

It seems to me that the concept of a Media Center PC is totally at odds with current corporate movements towards content protection.
And yet, even the evil giant Intel managed to get its Viiv platform on the market with little to no DRM. While this current iteration of MCPC seems to be a flop, the fact that it's available at all is a hopeful sign.
I've only used Novell setups a bit, but in my experience, they don't have nearly the functionality or sophistication of some of the other Linux configurations out there.
Also, a little known fact is that NSW used NetWare up until 1999 I believe. That could have had something to do with their decision to allow switching.
SuSE? Not sophisticated or functional? Where have you been?
In fact, I'm responding to this post on my in car computeY$#YKGRdsfgsm;sd;mgf.
Noobs like you shouldn't try to post while you're in the car. I, on the other hand, can play pacman, post to Slashdot, and do 70 on the interstate at the same time.
Love is like a box of chocolates. You sneak one or two before you decide to buy. Then eventually you do buy, take it home and eat them all in one sitting. Finally, your left with your body feeling sick, your wallet feeling light, and holding an empty box.
Only on Slashdot would that get modded "insightful". I think I can hear a lonely, brokenhearted moderator crying somewhere...
Never mind that the title is actually "Yahoo Considers Offering Prizes to Search Users"
Why do the editors of Slashdot feel the need to spin stories so that the headlines read like it's actually news? Someone mentioned this to the press and suddenly it's headlines that they're doing it. Please don't fall victim to the ways of other news providers, that's why I read Slashdot because it's not using shock reporting to get my attention.
More importantly, why do the posters of Slashdot feel the need to grab attention and karma by complaining about imaginary problems?
I could have sworn CNN had a Reuters article on this very same thing over a year ago. Could anyone help prove me with a link?
Maybe I'm just losing it......though some would argue I never had it in the first place.
If you thought the DRM on the grand prize was scary, take a look at this
From the article:
Touchtron is a window to the future of Personal Computers, attuned to innovation at the component level. The Data Storage Unit shall either be located away from the user location or would be on the servers of Application Service Providers (ASP) to which the user shall have subscribed.

You probably have seen it before, it's a dupe.
I like the concept, but cutting holes for fans was cheap. Everyone knows that whiskey bottles belong in the fridge.
So... for the less enlightened of us, are there any links explaining what the Plasma project actually is?
