I'm not saying a global economy is bad by any measure - what I am saying is that the "disposable society" in with we live is very harmful to the world. I've had the same lawn mower for 10 years now. It's a high quality machine that I plan on using for many more years to come. I don't care if it was made in the U.S. or China - but what I do care about is that the resources that were used to manufacture it were not wasted. If I had to buy a new one every year, I would be very disappointed in knowing that valuable resources were wasted every year I had to buy a one. With my mower, the same piece of steel used in the body of the thing has worked great for over a decade now. I feel as badly about wasting resources everytime I need a new car, drink a can of soda out of a can, etc. The world needs to broadly adopt strategies that conserve resources. The problem is usually that captialism is in direct conflict with conservation.

And for the uneducated and/or ignorant, the 64 bit version of windows STILL RUNS 32 BIT APPS JUST FINE. The only time an app may not function is if it communicates to a hardware device like a printer or CD burner. Which, by the way, CD burning apps like Nero 6 & 7 support just fine. Also, McAfee has a 64 bit verison of their antivirus software, which is included in the SAME installer as the 32 bit version, so no need for 2 seperate installers. I won't even got into detail about all the 64 bit linux distributions which have been out for several years now.

If you have a 64 bit chip and you couldn't find drivers for modern based hardware, you didn't try hard enough, or at all for that matter. Windows Vista will be 64 bit by default, yet include a legacy 32 bit version as well that won't have all the features of the 64 bit version, such as requiring signed drivers. All you have to do is google for the info, and you will find it.

    1) For starters, it's more than email. It syncs Outlook contacts and calendar items, but yes - I know there are plenty of PDA/phone alternatives for those functions - but it's nice they sync wirelessly. If you make a change in Outlook, it syncs through the air. Very cool.

    2) You said Webmail, which is nice when you turn it on and login to check yourself. The BB is nice because you don't have to check, it checks for you. It shows a message icon when you get a new one. It can also ring, vibrate, or light up when you get a new message. No webmail app is going to do that for you.

    3) You can then email people just like you can with Outlook directly from your Address book / contacts, which I already mentioned sync wirelessly.

If somebody can come up with a good alternative to BB, let me know - I'm all ears.

64 bit computing is not overhyped - it's a necessity to those of us who like to do video editing. More memory equals faster work. The AMD64 memory controller allows for huge amounts of RAM to be used.

Intel has been going around the last 2 years telling people 64 bit computing isn't needed yet. Tell that to Lucas's studios at Skywalker Ranch or any other multimedia professional.
