Points about poverty are never funny, they are at most ironic, and at their worst, as bad as it can get.
The main issue is that the tied aspect of aid to the poorer nations of this world needs to come to an end, instead of perpetuating crap that effectively becomes one way "free trade" (oh no I must be one of those commie liberals) which causes economic situations that too many people are simply in no position to do anything with their lives other than be subsistence slaves and that's all they'll ever be. The frequent insane regimes don't help, but those appear to be everywhere now. The difference between them is a matter of degree and of course luck.
The $100 laptop is a noble idea, one of many, hopefully there is many more and certainly it will help many people, it won't save the world just yet though it won't make it worse.
Of course, the easiest thing to do is autodump on the naughty man saying bad words, he has to be put in his place.
Thank god the three gorges project was built to the highest level of quality of construction with no corrupt activity thus ensuring no potential for problems ever.

Ah well, we don't need the german constitution anyway, lets just get rid of the parliament, lets get rid of anyone or anything that doesn't think the obviously correct way, lets get rid of those who have become innapropriate or in some other way inconvenient to the national "need" who needs those old rules any more, look how prosperous germany becomes now that the "undesirables" who dragged the nation down are out of the way, look how wonderful the nation has become, look how great things are now we are getting the land that "belongs" to us back, look at the shiny new roads - ignore the blood that has been concreted over to make them, they were enemies of germany anyway.
Never mind that this journey into righteousness leads into straight into hell, and everyone gets to play in world war 2.
As ever, the consequences of this nonsense only applies to those powerless to avoid them, in the short term. But, you know, freedom, way of life, it's for everyone's good, why don't they understand, why do they hate freedom?
And suddenly I think of this:
"When they came for the Jews, I said nothing because I wasn't one;
when they came for the gypsies, I said nothing because I wasn't one;
when they came for the homosexuals, I said nothing because I wasn't one;
when they came for me, there was nobody left to say anything..."
So where are we now, what are we on the brink of, will those who own the game temper the potential of their greed and hubris? Or will they continue to enjoy their god given right to do whatever the hell they want?
Tinfoil hat? I hope so, otherwise the last thing that folk remember will be the quote above.

aside from the fact that the insects have no concept that they are controlling anything (unless they secretly are our overlords after all), in as much as they arent isn't this just a telemetry system with a "game screen" representing the actions of what you are measuring?
So folk spend more time these days (officially) learning things and have to be more flexible in terms of what they need to know to do what ever they need to do.
And some guy years and years ago was more mature because past environments were more "stable" so there was nothing alternative or additional to learn, folk already knew exactly what they needed to know.

If maturity means that I will only ever perform one single type of "economically motivated" activity all the time knowing everything that I'll ever need to know, or rather knowing my place in the true order of things, then I'm glad to be a child. At least it means I have some hope of something better.
