    You'd have to be as much of a Windows fanboy as the typical Linux fanboy. And face it, Windows users typically don't have the same tweak's enthusiasm as Linux users.

    I'd say "that's what it would take" buy MacOS is still ahead of any of the OSes that use the Linux kernel (though not Android, but that's not a desktop OS).

  9. Schools are funded by local school districts. State Parks are funded by the State government. Totally different revenue bases, so it's a poor example.

  10. The 'culture' is an infestation that the Governor has very little control over. We could only wish that elected officials had that control over the government bureaucracy they are elected to 'run.' Lots of festering bullshit could be flushed out if elected officials had that sort of power.

    The auctions of surplus office furniture in the District of Columbia and the surrounding area would probably put new Office Furniture manufacturers out of business for years.

    So weaknesses and constraints on BASIC on the C64 impact it's usefulness today?

    I have a BASIC compiler for the PIC microcontroller that produces tight little binaries. It has a nice useful library of I/o functions.

    In the end Che was just a serial killer. He set off on that road to madness and was enabled by powerful outside forces. There are plenty of other homicidal maniacs out there. But college freshmen in the US don't generally wear Noriega, Saddam Hussein, Pol Pot, or Idi Amin tee-shirts.

    Musk is on his way to being a new Howard Hughes. The Spruce Goose is in the near future. The years of weirdness in the Vegas penthouse can't be that far off. He truly is an admirer of Tesla and wants to follow Tesla's path. Maybe Bezos can be his Alistair Crowley.

  17. I would like credit issuers to have a due diligence responsibility. A SSN and a few other personal identifying pieces of info is not a 'confidential key' that they should be using to grant credit. It shouldn't be possible for identity thieves to attain such value from such information.

    The SSNs of all citizens should be a matter of public record.

    I don't do phone contracts either. But I got this nice Moto E phone eight a Walmart that works with Virgin Mobile. The phone was $40, the service is $30 per month . Cash over the counter $20. No commitment. The Moto E is a nice phone for $40.

    McDonalds and WalMart aren't actually that awful. I shop at WalMart often enough to know that the stockers and cashiers are mostly the same lower-middle-class folks as the clerks in any other retail outlet.

    The difference is that Big Labor has white-hot hatred for McDonalds and WalMart so there is plenty of off-the-shelf 'information' available to attack McDonalds and WalMart with.

    But go ahead and believe what the Union Bosses feed you if it seems satisfactory, and gives you a bitmap to shout at in your Five Minute Hates.
