Right now they are not subsidized, but hopefully soon when they are, the costs will go down or extra content will be avaliable periodicaly and free or (really hopefully)both.
Very well put.
I used to be like that, before became a programmer and got involved with the open source community. I think they are just used to reality of "Rights, Duties and Money".
People need to understand that as a community, every help, no matter how small, is valid and contributes to the higher goal. It's much like bittorrent, sharing the pieces of the puzzle everyone holds we can accomplish much.
An United front against the Empire? Like a 'Resistance'?
Man, we better start training more Jedis now.
I remember reading a site with the statistics of foss coders and the contribution of private companies that lead me to believe the majority of code in were written by companies like Sun, IBM, Linux Foundation, Mozilla, Canonical, etc...
And GP, the private sector must boycott these sellout distro too, otherwise we might see a rush of people seeking safe haven from MS suits(I mean those who bought MS-FUD-2007UltimateEdition). If that happens others non-assimilated distros might start losing costumers and only a massive move to GPL3 would save us.
IMHO, games like any kind of media, should have various genres and kinds to appeal to different types of audiences.
Usually people that are into jet-lee movies aren't into Woody Allen movies and people into Gershwin aren't into 50cent.
I find Britney Spear songs train-wrecks, but a lot of people must like it seen how many million albuns she's sold. Same with Pokemon and most Nintendo games.
Make several diferent games in several genres targetting different audiences.
How about creating a developers community based on an entity that uses open source software for profit, and than splits these profits with developers, proportionaly to their ratings, achieved by the voting of members evaluating things like ammount contributed and importance/quality of the work.
Dedicated hardware to interface with only one unproven service, that has youtube as competitor that can be accessed from any browser? That's crazy even for Sony standards...
It could be part of, or a service provided through Home. They centralize everything in Home:
Joost like TV and movies, user created content(video, audio, text), internet radio, telecomunications, gaming, chatting, e-commence(like in second life), etc....
All services inside one virtual environment and then sell hardware to access it, mobile(umpc, smartphones, etc) or not(vaios, ps3, etc). All that ad supported like google.
It's as good as anyone really needs until prices comes down, then everyone will use HD, and pretty soon, everyone will find ridiculous watching anything in SD.
Well, the service has been running for a couple years by now, how many bug reports have we seen in this lifetime?
How many compared to Outlook security holes?
In fact, I'm sure that with the gains in compression, google is more than capable of keep redundancies and backups of our data, right?
Oh crap, now you got me worried.
I'm gonna look for or ask google people for an offline backup utility in their services request google group.
Bingo.
It's not the ads per se, it's the annoying ads.
I remember when accessing most sites would open an annoying popup with and ad, sometimes entire sites dedicated to ads would popup. And them they invented the popup blockers, and we had that ever cycling debate about how ads pay for the free internet.
And then, after ie incorpored a popup blocker, they change it to internal javascript popups or flash ones, which most of the times couldn't even be closed(or the close button is very hidden).
That's when noscript, together with adblock became a "must have" in this house.
That must be one of the reasons google adworks is so successful. They show people ads, they don't harass people with them.
Well, all those things are physical goods or services.
A new scenario for a game is neither.
Buying a map isn't different, in my opinion, from buying a rare item or character in WoW, which is ridiculous(also IMO).
You're all expecting too much from Vista, mostly because you're not familiar with Microsoft's naming standards.
Here's a little Microsoft -> Programmer list of terms I compiled:
alpha = non-existant
beta = alpha
Full Retail edition = beta
SP1 = Full Retail edition
As far I can tell, this only routes signals, But if di processed anything (or better, when it does), are you really gonna rely on any proprietary solution installed in your brain?
They better run linux and/or release all the source of the software running in the chip I'm gonna attach to my brain or no deal.

"If you can't open it you don't own it."
I take you don't own any console, cellphone, media player...

Diversity is key to survival.

Is that Bold, Stupid or do I need more coffe?
"I'm in your office, replacing your PCzz."
FFT: Lion War for psp
FFT: advance 2 for DS
Even risking sounding like a fanboy, you missed poor hardware quality for the 360(rings of death ahoy) and linux support for the ps3.
Aren't, not it's.
It's open standards a monopoly?
That always reminds me of that 640k quote.M

So, as long it's low quality, it's ok to freeload?
Will those people sharing lossless flac files will burn in hell then?
I'm gonna post that on 4chan.
And you must fix your sarcasm-o-meter.
100% agree with your point.
This is a major revolution for flying androgenous jester in a dream world games.

All you need is an internet connection, 6 lines of code and a server to donwload an xml.
Now, you see why they change its name from 'Revolution'.
Yet, responding to commisaro, the world of Wii followers will look at this as a new way of doing realistic gaming.

To be fair, after bittorrent, I only watch TV for news, And I'm more than used to go camping or traveling and packing a portable dvd player or laptop.
Doing anything out of this basement is already an achievement for me, even if it is just watching tv.
