    Great! now we have job security. But seriously shop around for a good price ohterwise you send the message to gouge at will. Reward the bussiness that doesn't raise the price early and lower it late, fluctuations happen but greed is intentional.

    Remember Stacker, Drivespace, Doublespace and maybe a couple of others? I watched others lose data and I took that as a sign. "But its like free disk space..." they said. Its like watching a gratuitious shot to the groin, sure glad it wasn't me. My tin foil hat is starting to itch, maybe M$ is stirring up the older OS sediment to spur upgrades?

    I believe Quantum was putting a heatsink(sheetmetal) on that chip just before they got acquired by Maxtor. Looks like the cost cutters left it out,put it back, and took it out again. If you can't design/manufacture a terrestrial piece of kit to last 10 years, you should get into another line of work.

    Poverty in some oil rich african countries means the local nutjob(murderer rapist thief) IS IN CHARGE. And if you gave the people of (insert oppressive regime) a democracy the villagers would be too stupid, lazy, ignorant/religous, to hold on to it. Nobody gets good government until the local people want it bad enough to work for it.

    Very good points with one addition:

    Make microsoft purchase your silence if they want it that badly.

    Microsoft will do to users whatever their legal dept will approve, legal is a major corporate decision making checkpoint. If it is lawful in your country to sell this info then let the auctions begin. Microsoft might claim foul but when confronted with issues of "morality" in the past they defer to their legal dept.

    Nobody of "importance" cares about spam, because it doesn't affect them. Its all about education, just autoforward spam to your government rep and ISP automatically. These are the agencies responsible for DOING NOTHING about spam. Spam doesn't hurt enough to cure until someone loses money or politcal influence over it.

    Or the lack of public outrage may indicate that /. is juat full of whining, bored nerds looking for some moral ranterbation.

    A close relative told me the company he works for has an a little secret that no one talks about. Seems after setting up a partnership with a chinese company to outsorce production (eliminate local jobs) they went to china to further the deal. Production lines were seen, hands shaken, and everthing was going along nicely. Before getting on the planes to go home someone had to return to the "factory" for something they forgot. It sould seem that thieves had made off with the workers and were taking down the "factory". I don't think the theives got too much money, but today no one at X corp. will mentions foreign investment without a quick look and a cautionary tale. Probably just a story told by the middle management to explain a lack of ambition, maybe. Ahh capitalism... don't ya just love the smell?
