    After a four year lapse my hospital remembered all my outdated insurance data and almost none of my medical data. The priority seems to be money and how to keep the profits flowing. No?

    I used to run the skunk works for an office, testing software that the boss was too cheap to buy. Sometimes a decent demo wasn't available, or waiting for a sales droid to get back to me, so this meant some warez, and a few password crackers. I told my supervisor once if the softeware police show up he should toss an incendiary in my office and pull the door shut, the fire would be cheaper.

    I used to reward myself with a "support copy" of Windows for helping family and friends. Now the those "support copies" dried up, not so much any more. One way or another everyone always gets paid.

    Have you ever heard a CEO yelling because his computer wouldn't boot in less than 10 minutes. Why, because someone set his computer to use roaming profiles, and put his email files there.

    I saw this happen with a Windows client and Samba server when one of our engineers put his games folder on the desktop.

    Us POW's as you affectionately call us have been doing lots of smart stuff for years. You *nix guys might be surprised what you can learn....

    Yes, you can do anything in windows that unix can do, but I am just tired of the windows tax.

    Did you also think Windows Me was a quality OS, and can you say it with a straight face?

    I was once forced to attend a Microsoft system builders show, the emcee stated "now this makes up for Windows Me", the response was silence followed by "nothing will make up for ME".

    Never, if the pc is more than 3-5 years old ubuntu probably won't run...

    Worked just fine with a 900mhz AMD duron and a 800mhz PIII, both contructed late 2001.

    When 9-11 happened, I knew people who didn't found out until late afternoon. If the same happened today, it would be a shock if someone hadn't heard within the hour.

    I don't know what your lifestyle is like, but there are those of us in the United States who spend whole minutes -- even hours -- away from the computer and the television.
    Lets see, catching up on sleep after a long road trip, or watching the World Trade Center buildings fall? To my wife at the time, "Is it going to fall on me right now... I'm going back to sleep"

    They can get laidoff employees to push it. Progressive sponsored a stadium around here and a couple a months later gave 30 people the boot. I am sure the ceo gave himself another $2.6 million for the idea. I can hardly wait to see how many get sacked this time, shareholders get rich, customers and employees get (too depressing to consider)

    Is photography your hobby or livelihood? How much money can you spend on this, really? Just quessing, I figure 10 times what the film costs with a factor of 2 for inflation. I would think any serious budget would include 10 percent or so for research. The end of life monthly costs might overwhelm your retirement income in 30 years.

    But your posting to slashdot, meaning your cheap with a lot of questions. Thats right no money is reserved for research, and a budget is too time consuming. what was I thinking? You have "golden eyes" and want minimal effort, this project is doomed. Start shooting film like you've never shot before, the clock is ticking.

    Next time ask how to build a homemade spaceship to Uranus, the chances of success would be about the same.
