Personally I don't see anything wrong in letting other people know about the existence of a good piece of software, especially if it's completely free.
The word I used was 'zealotry'.
Please don't treat everyone who supports FOSS as a zealot.
Haha you posted that right as I was posting an apology for being wrong.:D
If you're curious, you can go up to the beginning of this convo and see where it branched off, hopefully you'll see why I got confused. (And you'll still see I was being an ass.)
You know what, I owe you an apology. I got confused about which branch of this conversation I was involved with, and... well you're the second person I'm apologizing to because I was being obnoxious.
I'm sorry man, I thought this was a continuation of the conversation I was having with somebody else about a Linux distro supporting OGG but not MP3s.
You know what, I owe you an apology. Another reply to my comment was saying that a distro of Linux he installed didn't support MP3s, but did support Ogg. I asked him about that and afterwards I got your comment, but didn't realize that you weren't replying to THAT comment, but my original one. So I thought you were saying "we got OGG support when we weren't getting MP3" support.
This misunderstanding (and my subsequent snidey'ness) is entirely my fault and I'm sorry.
I agree. I feel that just because it is open source we are expected to praise it.
It wasn't that long ago around here that would have been true. But the OSS zealotry seems to have died down to more practical levels these days. I don't miss the 'but does it support OGG?" +5s that flew around here.
How does this, in practical terms I mean, compare to Chernobyl? Does this mean there's an area of Japan now that will not be habitable for decades/centuries? Is this area the size of a city, or more like the size of a building complex? Decades from now, are brave souls going to be wandering around a deserted area taking photos of the remains of buildings and explaining to the youngins how Fukushima became a household name?
Or is more like "yes, the numbers are bad, but it was contained."... ?
I apologize for my ignorance, but I don't apologize for asking questions.
We have these things called ambulances, they have these flashing lights and sirens to let other drivers know to get out of the damn way because there is an emergency and they need to get where they are going fast.
We have this thing called 'real life', you take your first steps towards it after you type 'brb'.
Instead I would lay out a plan for future value you can add to the company. "Within the next year I can have this project done that'll add $$$ to our revenue".
Almost all new movies are shot with digital cameras. The image is sometimes post-processed to make it look more filmish. Using a film camera now is a special setup for a special effect.
Eh.. you're both sort of right. Your conflict is coming from the words 'usually' or 'almost all'. It's closer to 50/50 with digital gaining every year. It's also fairly common to use both on a show.
Everyone I talk to says he'd prefer one to the current wide-screen offering. Do people really only use computers for watching movies?
Wider screens means more palettes etc on either side of the app you're using. I, personally, like having room on the sides of the app for things like Explorer windows or for note-taking.
I way prefer 1920 x 1200 than i would 1600 x 1200. However, I can't stand 1920 x 1080, if that helps to know.
...and that my silence is indicative of having something more important to do than jacking off onto Slashdot.
You found time during your extremely busy weekend to do it twice, now.
I don't see adverts as big blocks of colour, so I cease to give a shit.
Right. You also cease to understand how advertising on Slashdot works and how it relates to sensationalism, then you make stupid comments like the one you did.
If you're referring to "Slashvertisement" etc, well how the fuck is that different from how the entire "news" publishing industry has worked for the last several centuries? Not in the slightest.
I wasn't. Funny that you mention it anyway, though, since it further answers the question I was answering.
Since you are unsure of what I'm talking about, you should consider learning how to use the question mark on your keyboard.
he weekend has 2.5 hours to run, and I've 10 hours more on my shift, then a day of maybe or maybe not being able to get home.
I hope you get home and I hope you don't work as many hours a week as I tend to. Have a nice end-of-your-work-week.
I disagree. I think Apple probably will ship a locked-down version of OS X sometime in the next couple of years, and it'll be the default version of the OS.
So.. what, they're going to set OSX so that you can no longer have executables unless Apple okays them? You won't be able to run scripts anymore?
Sorry, I can't see this. OSX wasn't designed to support the idea of locking down where the software comes from like the iPhone/iPad has. When they make a laptop that uses iOS, however, then you'll see your 'locked down Mac'.
Yesterday I ran across a visual I had to blink a few times to comprehend... Linky...

I referred to zealotry.

Right, now go up a couple of posts and see what sparked this conversation.
No mp3.
Enjoy your practicality, but remember who paid for it.
Heh. Your proud of making the majority's life harder?
Sorry man, I'm just not getting it.
Is it common for a Linux distro to not have MP3 support by default?
I agree. I feel that just because it is open source we are expected to praise it.

Answer: "Duke Nukem goes gold."
What is: "Headlines we'll never see?"
This joke was funny up until yesterday. :(

Unless a major exploit is found, then they should call it: Linux E( )o( )3

No, trying to get modded down to show that people are morons.
Well, you've shown that one person is a moron.

I can't stand 4:3 anymore.
Thank you, sir. :)
Your point would have more bite if there wasn't a bunch of CCTV recordings of your daily life.
So you admit to being an ex-man?

The first one is. The second one is someone else.
Pssh, only in Linux.
There are more Android handsets therefore no-one could possibly want to write Mac malware? Nice "logic".
Heh. And they completely forgot about Windows.
