I tried the beta, the UI is(or rather 'can be') very Maya-ish. They actually have a 'Maya' mode. All in all, the ability to jump in has greatly improved.
Speaking as someone from a Maya shop who would love to add more tools to the toolbox, this is really good to hear.
Right, niche markets demand niche applications. Some tasks just aren't 'easy' by nature and if you dumb down your GUI ( and perhaps features ) to accommodate the average user, you alienate your true market.
I have always felt that production 3D work has been one of those markets.
It is their right: if you don't agree with their offer, don't buy it!
I wish you lot would shut up about this. They need to know about their customer dissatisfaction. If they don't buy it, then they assume their lack of sales was due to piracy.
The next time you decide to post another stupid vote-with-your-dollars rant, go look up what happened with Spore and Amazon.
I hate the RIAA and their methods as much as anyone, but I don't think it is spurious to look at what's happened to the music industry in the last 15 years or so and say that the internet has not had a negative effect.
That's because the 'you can only purchase the album' business model was destroyed. Really it should never have been as lucrative as it was.
Honestly is that how people read the summary? I didn't even begin to think the summary was being paranoid or anti-microsoft. I thought it was just using descriptions for exactly what it does.
The articles that get the most responses (and, consequently, ad-serves) are the ones that get the pitchforks a'wavin.
No i am just getting tired of people going ooh ahh it is so awesome when in reality it means that 45 million americans will never see one of those effects.
No, he means the latter. I'd take the $25 discount if it was only 2 weeks of ads.
Seriously though, if the ads aren't there while reading the book, I don't see the big deal even if it's for the lifetime of the device. The only time I look at my Kindle is when I'm actually reading a book. Now, I don't want ads myself, but I know some people who would take that kind of discount. Some people even seem to like ads..
So some random rumours, about something that may or may not happen at some or other time, this way or another...
This is /. front-page how exactly?
It generates comments.
As long as they have Mario games I'll piss my money away on it.
Tee hee giggle snort!
Anyway, back to one of my many army-man-running-around-with-a-gun games.
You'd be less crabby if you had a nice selection of games to play.

Easy != dumbing down. See XSI.
Right, then we bitch about bloat.
I'm kinda like you -- I prefer to have choices.
Keep in mind, these problems are often solved in their own way. Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, these all work on the iPhone.
Windows user. ;)
"Flash On Android Fails To Impress InfoWorld's Neil McAllister"
Tell us how it impressed you!
Nuff said. Perhaps playing the game on the PS3 or 360 would be a better thing
That's the stupidest thing I've ever read.
Only if it's a shooty game... which... well if it's on the PC, let's face it, it probably is.
4) Your product is not guaranteed to work in 5 years when the servers are taken down.

Which is why I specifically included the qualifier "if the story is true."
You didn't do that when you judged Steve's decision as the 'immoral' one.
643 comments and counting.
Why can you dipshits count comments but not the number of times I acknowledged that I was wrong?

The authors of the article and the editor who approved it should be ashamed of themselves. Five pages saying exactly nothing.
They did very little work and generated lots of ad views. They should be pumping their fists in the air with the Final Fantasy victory tune playing.
That's right guys, follow that shiny thing, wherever it leads. Forget all about what you were doing before.
No imagination.
This is a big deal? Whoopty freaking do.
This is just Microsoft once again showing up late to the party.
Yeah but the recent kerfuffle over the 'App Store' name with Apple means this site can serve a bunch of ads as people posture about it.
Do you even REALIZE you are discussing this like a bunch of old women
in a bridge club ? This is the most pathetic shit I have seen in a long time.
This is it, the last time I will waste a precious second of my life looking at Slashdot, which
has become less worthwhile than a turd.
At least a turd can be used as fertilizer.
I'll take old women in a bridge club over the comic store guy any day.
You should be okay so long as you're not a redshirt.
The defective red uniforms were replaced in the late 23rd century.

255 million can.
Because it took a large earthquake, a very large tsunami, and corporate neglect to cause something that...
I'm surprised that bit about corporate neglect didn't make you stop and pause while writing that post.

Slashdot moderations increase people's ambient principles.
Yuri did an amazing thing
Not to be pedantic, but Yuri didn't actually do anything. Vostok 1 was fully automatic from lift-off to bail out.
He risked his life to prove it would work. That scores a fair bit higher than a computer-desk-critic.
