I don't have a problem with the console. It's the company that has been making stupid mistakes lately.

"as far as i can tell your reply comes down to "they did all this other stuff but i cant be bothered mentioning it and were not all bashing them, oh btw your ignorant."

Cute interpretation of what I said, but okay. Fine. Whatever. I didn't go into detail for two reasons: First is that all that information's out there. Considering how dismissive you've been so far, I didn't think my doing reseach work for you would end up being worthwhile. Second, I don't think you would have trusted me. I think you would have argued with me instead of just reading the information and figuring out why other people interpret it the way they do. I'm not interested in convincing you to dislike Sony, but I think you would have interpreted it that way. If you go find that info on your own, at least you'll look at it from that perspective instead of using it in a game of verbal kombat with me.

"and you fail to see all that all the things sony has done amount to a console with poor design choices, some broken promises and PR lies. Oh no! they promised a game and now its not coming out! They promised a feature and it didnt end up happening! That happens with nearly every technology product."

Right, but that's not what Sony's getting its chops busted for. I've already gone into detail about this in my first post and you dismissed it. Oh well.

"...and if you dont like a product dont buy it. sony isnt forcing you to upgrade from a ps2 to a ps3."

In other words, people that disagree with you should just shut up. Right. The reason you think the fanboys are crazy is that you don't understand it like they do. I'm not saying you have to agree with it, but I think you need to go back and take another look at what Sony's done. It's not some shared haullucination.

"oh and, sillyness? 33% PERCENT OF UNITS ARE DEFECTIVE."

On a note unrelated to this discussion, I don't think this number is true. I think the number's unusually high (10% maybe), but I seriously doubt it's 33. Unfortunately, some of the XBOX news gets tainted like the Sony news does. It's hard to take extreme stories on either side seriously.

"im not really gonna bother saying much more until you come with more than just "you're ignorant"

I don't know why you expect more of me than that when you're not listening to anything I'm saying. I'm not spending a whole lot of energy on this while you're saying things like "its just a console you dont like! thats all it comes down to! it has games you dont like!" All that stuff has been regurgitated so many times here I honestly don't see how somebody who reads Slashdot everyday can be unaware of it. Obviously Sony has done it a lot more 'constantly' than the other two this time around, their PR tanked.

"1. They made a console you dont like. ...."

This is why you don't understand what all the 'bashing' is about. You don't have a clue what's been going on. You actually think that one morning I woke up and thought "Hmm.. it'd be fashionable for me to hate Sony today for no reason." As near as I can figure, you've been avoiding even the most mainstream video game news over the last 18 months. Now, it may sound like I'm just being dismissive of what you're saying. Well, sorry, but if you really want to kick people in the butt to re-evaluate the PS3 you're not going to get anywhere by saying "I don't understand what all the fuss is about, you're just a fanboy." The PS3 had a lot of positive momentum going for it until E3 '06. That's when they first shot themselves in the foot. Maybe you'd like to browse through the news archives and see what all the fuss was about?

"I hardly see how this is worthy of all the bashing and crap they get on slashdot. Im not a fanboy but i can see customer attitude is starting to affect console makers and having a large impact on sales. I want more people buying ps3's so i can get some goddman games. i dont want it to turn into the dreamcast of this generation, minus the the good games. Im not going to start arguing pro ps3 but you cnat deny its a great piece of hardware, its not a piece of crap."

I agree with you that the hardware has some impressive graphical power. Throw lots of money at it, and sure, you can make the numbers of the specs go up.

"Its sounds old, but i cant even list the amount of things microsoft has done in the past year that are far worse than that. Why arent we out bashing them, boycotting their products and givign them a hard time, i mean they pretty much MAKE people buy their crap, and it IS crap. i know some of us do."

That's something else you should look into. Despite the silliness surrounding Microsoft and the XBOX 360 (i.e. Defective units...), they've still made an interesting and affordable game machine.

"Anyway i just dotn see why you feel the need to bash them so much when theres so many companies out there that are far worse. they made the ps3, made some design mistakes, and had a ceo who said some stupid things."

As I said, you're not seeing all of the saga surrounding Sony. You should look into that. As for bashing, I'd hardly call my post bashing. You're not going to get anywhere on this topic if you run around to people who have a different opinion from you and say "You're just bashing". I could accuse you of being the exact opposite, you know. "You'll let Sony do whatever they want and you'll cheer them on." You wouldn't care much for me saying that, right? Whatever. Go do a little research before taking potshots at people.

Ah, if only that was the whole story. The 'mistake' they made was they didn't want to pay licensing fees over the patent. Instead of just being upfront about that, they first claimed that their motion sensitive controller wouldn't work with Immersion's rumble technology.. When the Wii controller came out that supported motion sensing and rumble, Immersion made it public they had informed Sony about how to resolve that issue, then Sony fired back and said that rumble technology was last-gen.

Sony didn't simply make a mistake and correct it. They fought it kicking and screaming. If Sony hadn't been so negatively noisy about it, the Dual Shock 3 would barely have made the news.

That's a no-win situation. If they don't stop her, and if she went kablooey, there'd be all sorts of people demanding to know why they didn't. It's human nature, really. When something tragic happens, we try to figure out how to prevent it. Sometimes that goes to silly extremes.

"Granted, it was likely not the smartest move on her part..."

It was't a smart move at all. Realistically speaking, with all this paranoia flying around, she had no reasonable reason to think she'd get through without legal trouble.

"Why is it that airports have special significance?"

    a. It's happened before.
    b. They've threatened to do it again.
    c. Airplanes can be made into nasty instruments of destruction.

"Would you say that "I'm shocked and appalled that somebody would wear this type of device to a college campus"?"

Since there isn't paranoia flying around about colleges getting bombed, this isn't a fair question. You have to understand that lots of people were spooked rather bad, and they're still trying to cope with what to do about it. There is a constant barrage of threats for similar attacks down the road. What are they supposed to do, not take them seriously? Nobody has an answer as to what to do about it.

"Is all this paranoia actually making us safer?"

That depends on your school of thought. There hasn't been a terrorist attack on US soil since 9-11. Either the US has succeeded in thwarting them or they haven't tried again. I couldn't tell you. The reality, though, is that it has happened and there is desire for it to happen again. For that reason, they cannot in good concscience not to something. As I said before, there's no good answer presenting itself.

"It is not hard to imagine any number of amazingly effective scenarios that terrorists could use that would be far more effective than focusing on airports, so quit with all of the panic reactions already."

Obviously the terrorists thought an airplane would be the best way to do it before, so they're forced now to pursue a less ideal way to cause trouble. I think that's the goal and it's working.

Men and women are biologically and anatomically different. Okay, you got me on the statuatory punishment, but for the remainder, this point still stands. Chauvinism isn't the only reason in the world why two different punishments would be handed out to two different sexes for the same offense. (At least that's how the law sees it.) If a 15 year old female studen gets pregnant, she's not of age to make that choice or meet that responsibility, and it messes up her life. From the pregnancy perspective, the two aren't the same. There are other ways to look at this, too, and the result still is different consequences.

If the consequences are different, punishment under the law is different. That's why this is a bad example.
