  1. Found this nugget on Strip-Search Case Tests Limits of 4th Amendment · · Score: 4, Interesting
    quite cringe-worthy (from TFA):

"They didn't even look at my records," she said. "They didn't even know I was a good kid."

The school district does not contest that Ms. Redding had no disciplinary record, but says that is irrelevant.

"Her assertion should not be misread to infer that she never broke school rules," the district said of Ms. Redding in a brief, "only that she was never caught."

While I also think it is irrelevant, that just sounds really bad coming from a school official. You stay class Safford, AZ school district.

I was listening to NPR a couple weeks ago about the whole deal with reclassifying Pluto. They said the main arguments were about its orbit and its composition. It's orbit, as far as I know is the only one that isn't planar with respect to all the other planets. It's also a lot of ice.

It doesn't matter to me because it's still there either way, but Illinois can declare cats and dogs the same thing and it won't change a thing.

Acidification may or may not be affected by carbon. It likely is, to some small extent. But, the major causes of acidification is pollution, in the form of human waste and sewerage, and agricultural runoff. Turning the oceans into a cesspool was never a good idea.

    I'm sorry, what?
Acidification is the dissolution of inorganic carbon (i.e. CO2) and water (H2O) => H2CO3 (carbonic acid), which dissociates into H+ and HCO3-. It reduces the buffering capacity of the ocean, as well as reducing the ability of organisms to fix carbon -> shells, coral skeletons, etc..
What you are describing depletes oxygen by adding limiting nutrients and causing plankton blooms and eutrophication.

Too true. Or everyone could drive like the crazies do here in Miami. Ignore any color light and just drive. Seriously, this city has the worst problem with running red lights, and moving here from VA I've noticed it's mainly because of the light cycles, and timing. Not even 1s between light changes in the intersection, and the amber light is drastically reduced compared to what I've seen anywhere in VA, including the DC area.
