This would most likely play a very minuscule part in capturing CO2. The most important part of it is increasing habitat niches for specialized fishes, but not so much pelagic ones. The ocean naturally acts as a sink for carbon in general due to its nature of resisting changes in acidity with the chemical pathways that bicarbonate takes in the ocean. The bicarb acts as a buffer but its action is reduced with increased acidification (which does happen from increased CO2 absorption), which would reduce the effectiveness of the ocean to absorb inorganic carbon, which also harms organisms utilizing calcification. The calcium carbonate those organisms use actually help increase bicarb levels though. So this is one hugely complex system that I tried to shrink down here, but didn't really do it justice.
As for the iron thing, iron is a limiting metal for coral as well as other plants and animals in the ocean. One downfall with spreading iron in the ocean is that it can lead to blooms of algae that die off and consume all available oxygen when decomposing, and in the case of dinoflagellates release neurotoxins into the water, so you would have to do it during certain times of the year when specific phytoplankton dominate. I could talk about this for days since it is what I want to get into as a career, so sorry for the long rant.
I think she was implying that the pictures may not be 100% identical to her likeness, but are an approximate depiction of her likeness which sounds pretty absurd. "Hey, this white woman with brown hair looks reasonably like her." That's what it sounds like to me, but it may be legal jargon.
As a side note, I recall when/. was forced to remove a comment that posted some Scientology documents. I thought that was a terrible thing to do, as a DMCA violation request, because it might pave the way for other people to strong arm negative things about them off of forums (kept wanting to type fora) and message boards. Thankfully I haven't witnessed anything like it here on/. since. Maybe this ruling will be appealed and be struck down. Here's hoping at least.
On one hand I agree that public information can be used, since it is in the public domain, but in a case where some company uses your name and likeness without your knowledge or permission is a real shitty move. However this doesn't look like the case. The profiles were made by other users, and were fake. All she had to do was contact those companies and report it, not take them to court. I have to side with those websites here because this sets a bad precedent that will bog the courts down even more with lawsuits.
Not being from CA I'm not sure what entitlements you are referring to but I don't think giving tax breaks to the rich and corporations isn't a way to support those entitlements either. It may entice them to stay, but how much of that money is being funneled back into the economy? Wealthy people accrue wealth and keep it that way, shelling out a little on the side to appear philanthropic. I'm not offering a solution because I honestly can't, but I'd prefer to pay taxes and get things in return like good municipal services then not pay taxes and wonder why there are pot holes all over the roads.
That is the point of the bill this guy is proposing. He wants to update it from tangible to include information.
"The notion of taxing tangible, physical property is really an industrial-era construct when we made widgets and sold widgets," Calderon said Friday. "Now it's not about widgets, it's about information, and selling information and moving information."
They probably don't. It most likely is more like a percentage of income, but no way in hell will it reach 80% by the end of 2008. Or do they mean it will be 50-50 DVD BD. Even so that won't happen. It just isn't worth it. I've seen HD and Blu-ray compared to DVD and the difference isn't noticeable. Maybe if you play them side by side you can point out a little crispness but that is not worth the shellout for a new player and $15-20 more for a Blu-ray than a DVD right now. But then again that economic stimulus package just might be enough to...do nothing.
I went looking for some numbers about the sales of Blu-ray players and found this from January where sales went up from 15,257 units to 21,770 units. The first number was pre-Warner announcing their support. And some UK retailer has reported that sales are up 600%. Regardless I won't be buying a Blu-ray player any time soon.
I don't go. But I'd rather he stopped shoveling filth onto the screen and perverting the video game industry. He already has 3 new movies in production, and 3 in post-production according to imdb. His newest:
"Zombie Massacre", based on a Wii-Action Shooter, revolves around three punk rockers and a police officer. They have to fight their way to a city - filled with zombies - with their old-timer, on which they transport a nuclear bomb, which should detonate in the city, to destroy the zombies.
I unfortunately have them because they have a contract with the city I live in and no one else has any lines near me. I checked for FiOS but it isn't available yet either. It was almost as bad as when I lived in an apartment complex that had a deal with NTC, which I believe is illegal now, which forced me to pay for their service. Looking back on it, I wish I could get NTC over Comcast.
Just look for a vaporizer. I'm sure you can use tobacco in them in addition to its main purpose. Although the ones I've used a a little big and not meant to be portable.
That thing was pretty creepy looking and reminded me of something from either the Labyrinth or the Dark Crystal that would bite your hand off for a $1. How many hookers do you know that will do that?
You make some good points, and I think it can be applied to today, but I think at the time Frank Herbert was referencing drug cultures. Almost reminds me of A Scanner Darkly, then again Philip K Dick was pretty in to drugs. He who controls the spice controls the universe.
Then how would you explain the concept of the Kwizatz Haderach which unites the masculine and feminine, explicitly with the water of life which is a profoundly feminine symbol in literature. I don't see Islam as having such an instance as that. It does have religion rooted into it and religion's subjugation of the Freman, but I wouldn't say that is Islam, more Christianity. The correlation of spice and oil today may seem good, but oil is not a hallucinogen that also allows a greater perception and awareness. Dumbing it down to oil and Iraq does no justice to Frank Herbert.

I just can't shake the image of leatherhead from teenage mutant ninja turtles from my mind now. whatcouldpossiblygowrong?

Since all the pr0n is from California anyway, does this mean we owe back taxes from all those free downloads?

here here. I even voted this one down on firehose as a dupe. what happened here?
Wait, is Andrew is Han? I believe both he and Greedo were pretty shady characters in the books. Can't imagine who to compare Lucas to here.
From the VA Department Of Education. They even have some nifty power points. /grumble
Exactly. If he does in fact "retire," I want a contract that gives his firstborn up for sacrifice if he doesn't keep his word.
Must be. I'm in southwest virginia and can't get a torrent to get over 15kb/s, and strangely my upload speeds are in the 50s.
Yes.

I like google but disabled the search tracking since I found it a little creepy. For extra protection I use track me not.
I hope someone sues their bollocks off.
There, fixed that for you.
right here

He who controls the spice controls the universe.
If Peter Berg does a good job of it, I'll gladly eat my words, but IMO the odds are against it.
There we go, fixed.
