Unless something has changed on the software venfor side I fail to see them making any real strides ino the PC market. I am a good example. I'm 3D artist, Network Aministrator, and avid gamer. Mac is not a good fit got me on the gaming side because well there is virtually no games on Mac worth playing. On the 3D artist side, the only major 3D app out for Mac is Maya and last I demoed it on a MAc is ran horribly. And since I also have to work with 3D Studio Max again Mac can no fill my needs. Now in the IT field.... Last I checked businesses were running mainly Windows, Linux, or Unix. Mac are very rare there. So again I fail to see how this will change when they haven't convinced the soiftware vendors to put out Mac ports of their applications. The application void that exists for Mac is the main problem they need to deal with. They can make the best system on the planet but it's useless if over 90% of the applications people run will not run on that system.
I love how you ignore the fact NASA has discovered regarding rising temps on the other planets in our solar system. Are you gonna tell me WE are resp for those too? If it was only on earth then yeah I'd say you may have a point. But since the other planets in the system have been found to be heating up too.... Face it we don't know enough about what drives these changes to make any good guesses. We don't even understand the dynamics of our everyday weather to predict teh weather accurately for more than just a few days. How often has a weather report called for rain the next day only to have it be sunny and warm? There's lots of money in the alarmist Global Warming views being pushed by the media and gov sponsored scientists. Why don't they give equal time to those non affiliated and equally as credable climate scientists who do not agree with the popular spin on this topic?
Oh come on... Anyone who chooses to join the armed forces should know there is always a chance of something breaking out somewhere in the world and that they may be sent there. The whole joining just to pay for college is BS. I put myself through college by busting my ass. Mom and dad were in no position to help me. If you want to do it bad enough you can put yourself through college. Joining the military just to pay for school never crossed my mind. I have no sympathy for those soldiers that did just that and then bitched when it came time to do what they swore to do. Their freaking jobs! They were expecting a free lunch and were suprised when they had to pony up. To be honest I feel everyone who is able bodied should be required to do a short stint in the military right after highschool. It woulds perhaps force some to grow up and see the world as it is not through the distorted lenses of the mainstream media.
Sorry but if you can't tell the difference between real violence and the videogame(fantasy) variety then you have much more serious issues to deal with. Very few, if any, games show you the down and dirty bits of using a gun. Most only have you pointing and shooting. It's laughable. I don't think we even due the US military when one of their soldiers, active or retired, uses his training to hurt or kill someone. These peopel are looking to shift the blame from themselves to anyone they can.
Well, for me, it's both. I use Linux partly because I love the power it gives me (which is in itself a political statement, I guess), and partly because of the freedom it gives me (which is definitely a political statement).
I stopped using Microsoft Windows in 1992, when I started using OS/2; and then I stopped using OS/2 in 1993, when I discovered Linux. I stopped using MS-Windows because of the DR-DOS situation, which was just one piece in a long line of Microsoft abusing its position. I stopped using OS/2 because I discovered something completely Free, which suited my temperament, having released my programs and source code before I discovered the GPL, and Linux.
So, for me, it *is* a political statement, thank you very much.
Sounds to me more like you have no real life outside the PC if you care THAT much about this. Turn off the PC, walk to your front door, open the door, and join the rest of the world outside. It's a PC. It a tool. It's not a way of life. Fanboy's are so silly...
A "safer" option? That's funny. Most people won't move to OSx because more often than not the developer of their fav or mission critical apps didn't make an apple port of them. OSX is not any safer. Well yeah it is since it's not a main stream OS so the virus/trojan writers and hackers haven't bothered to turn their attention on it. Yet. If it ever does make the move to mainstream you better believe their users will enjoy the patch race Windows users enjoy so much. But OSX will remain where it is until developers actually start supporting the OS.
And don't forget the attempts on the current leader's life. The people trying to take power there are the radicals who have no problem with killing themselves to kill the enemy. They see no problem killing the innocent. They will eventually succeed. When they do they will have nukes at their disposal. An grand time will be had by all when that happens.:-)
hmmm... did you forget the "Convert or die" thing? First, Iran's president is not the leader of Iran. That honor is held by the supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The Iranian president has not power at all. What the Ayatollah says goes. Period. Second, Iran has made threats that we need to take seriously. A nation that calls for the irradication of Israel is not one we should be allowing to have nuclear weps at all. Third, we are talking about a radical theocracy. Again the whole "Convert or die" thing comes to mind.... Plenty of nations don't like us. But we know they will not think of launching a nuke our way because that would mean their own destruction. That whole MAD thing. It has kept the world fairly safe from a nuclear war for decades. Now we are talking about a nation who's goverend by religion. A religion in which it is an honor to die killing the infidel. So they wouldn't care very much that a nuclear strike on any nation would mean their own swift destruction. THIS is the problem the western world and some Islamic nations have with Iran haveing the ability to make nuclear arms. The world is much too complicated to use the "If we can have they should too" reasoning. No matter what you have been taught, what's good for the Goose is not always good for the Gander.
We can have nukes, but North Korea and Iran can't.
Your reasoning, or lack there of, amazes me. It ignores some very basic differences. Would you give a blowtorch to a pyromaniac? Would you hand an assault rifle to a psychopath? While yes we are the only nation to have ever dropped a nuke on anyone we haven't used them since. They are a deterrant. The real possibility of their use against most of our enemies keeps them from doing anyhting stupid. Usually. I don't know much about the mindset of North Korea but Iran and it's brand of Islam is well known to most people who have been paying attention. They don't care very much for your own lives. They are willing to sacrifice themselves to kill the "infadels" because in their warped view of things it's a sure fire ticket into their view of heaven and them virgins. When you are comparing the US or most western nations to radical Islamic theocracies you are not comapring apples to apples. I love how the anti-US folks love to spout this garbage and hope no one is actually looking at their logic. I also love the folks in the US that spout this. If it's so bad here and we are so evil they are free to go to Iran or North Korea and live there.
Meh... I used to love Intel until AMD came around. CPU's that were as fast or faster for much less. I'm a 3D aminator and this news has me drooling but are they still gonna be asking an arm and a leg for their CPU's compared to AMD?
It isn't going to reverse if CO2 levels keep rising. The point scientists are trying to make isn't that its they end of the world, its that we gotta make some changes.
REALLY?!?! Then my good man please explain to me why temps actually dropped during the CO2 explosion casued by our industrial revolution.
Stop looking at just one source of info (The Guilt Ridden Global Warming Groups) Don't believe the hype. There is no consensus on the human cause of global warming. The computer models they use for these gloom and doom predictions are nothing we should be looking at for reliable info. They are built on flawed and incomplete data sets. Think about it. We can't even reliably predict the weather for a week yet we are supposed to beleive they can predict the weather decades or centuries into the future? Get real. Our climate systems are incredibly complex. We do not understand all the dynamics at work here. Many people seem to ignore one of the biggest drivers of our world climate. That big lovable fireball in the sky we affectionately call "The Sun." There is evidence that shows the other planets in our solar system are heating up and going through their own climate changes. You can't seriously tell me this is also due to our love of fossile fules... Fact is we haven't been here long enough to know what's really going on. We only started recording temps at the end of our last small ice age. Kinda makes sense if we are coming out of a big freeze that we'd be going into a warming trend for a while.
Here's a lol tidbit none of the "It's Our Fault" global warming group seems to want to tackle. NASA and a few others have found that Earth isn't the only planet in our system to be going through climate changes. Here are a few links for your own perusal.
Now I'd like to see someone try to blame the system wide warming on our driving SUV's. I'm sure someone out there will. LOL!!!!
Here's a very informative speech delivered this past Monday on the US Senate floor by senator James Inhofe Chairman, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. It's not your normal uninformed rant we've come to expect from our politicians. http://epw.senate.gov/speechitem.cfm?party=rep&id= 263759
LOL!!!! You can't honestly believe no other security product will run on Vista. Do you? Symantec and all other companies in direct competition with MS should be focusing on building better apps rather than crying because MS has a similar app coming out. If your product sucks and microsoft's sucks then the user will do the smart thing and stick with the "free" sucking app. Why sould a user be forced to pay for a POS app when an all just as sucky and gets the job done is free with the OS? These developers should just shut up and make a better product. Make a better product and price it reasonably and you will get the coveted user dollars. It's a no brainer. What's keeping them from doing this? It sure as hell isn't Microsoft.
Microsoft is going to have to learn that it needs to try to work with the companies that make software for their systems. An OS that does not fulfill the users needs and expectations should be replaced with one that does. It is only a matter of time before Microsofts obsession with hurting the developers and end-users comes back and bites them....
There is nothing wrong with MS adding these new features. If there is a better viable option people will switch. Adobe and Symantec are just crying because they don't want to compete with MS. It's a joke. Talk about being anti competition....
Oh, and who do you think will be the first to stop developing for the #1 OS in the land? The one that is found on over 90% of desktops world wide? The first one to do that will be the first one to put themselves out of business. MS has a firm grip on the OS market. It's kinda like saying the Earth better start playing by our rules or else we'll leave. LOL!!! Now where are we gonna go? Haven't seen any other viable planets near by. Same goes for OS's. What OS do you think will suddenly be adopted? No other OS in existance has the software library Windows has. You can bitch and complain all you like. Spit as much venom as you like at MS. They aren't going anywhere. Software vendors simply have to learn to develop better apps and beta test them a hell of a lot more. Case in point. Adobe's flash player lacks sound on my system. I have found I am not the only one this has happened to. I go to Adobe's site and well...no help. I called their tech support. Same result. Now who's to blame for this "feature?" Windows? I think not. If any other OS has a prayer of knocking MS off the throne the software developers will need to start supporting more than just Windows. Since this would mean taking a hit to their profits I don't see that happening.
as it is going to do with the new Vista, then I think that it will be a huge boon to open source. The biggest thing is if hardware vendors adopt selling open source OSes with their products. So far its been relegated for the most part to servers and hasn't widely been adopted, so that is what will hold the keys to open source adaption by the general public in the long term.
I think I am going to go Open Office soon on my home computers, so that should remove me from having to pay the rediculous fees for the next generation of online MS Office applications.
You are kidding right? Hmmm.... you have a free OS vs one you pay over $100 for....
If both were equal who do you think people would go for? Get real. The software support is what keeps the juggernaut (Windows) in the #1 position. The world doesn't have to like Windows but it needs windows if it wants to have access to the many different apps out there written to run on it. Linux is a kick ass OS for sure. But untill software developers support Linux like they support Windows we will not see Linux take and of the domestic (home) market share from them. When you purchase or pirate Windows you are not doing so becasue you love the OS. You do it because the OS gives you access to a wider variety of software to get your job done. So again, untill the software developers get behind Linux it will not be a real world alternative to the established mainstream OS's. I do have a question. Does OSX qualify as mainstream? When I read the word "mainstream" I assume the writer is talking about Windows. OSX is in just as an underdog position as Linux. Just not so bad off.
They can inflict torture-level pain on people without leaving any evidence that it happened.
Ummm.... they have been able to do that for a very long time. There are some very low tech ways to inflict high levels of pain w/o leaving a mark. Someone is riding on the late train.....
Ask John Titor, he predicted this back in 2000 as a way for US Military to fight in a Civil War without killing citizens. Of course- if he really was a time traveler his timeline didn't seem to include 9-11-2001, but other than that the development of using non-lethal weapons on American Citizens is right on schedule.
Where the hell have you been? LOL!!! Some guy states the obvious and then claims he's from the future and you say "WOW!!! He was right!" It's kinda like me claiming to be from the future and tell you there will be more violence in the middle east. That's a huge "NO F'ing DUH!" Nonleathal weps have been part of research for a LONG time. It was no big secret. It makes sense to want nonlethals for use on your own people. The police will have the option of killing the crazy mofo cgarging them or simply knocking them the hell out. How is this bad in any way? Come on man. Pull your head out of your ass. Take a nice deep breath and think about things beyond your paranoid kneejerk reactions. Ok ok ok. I'm fromt he future and I can tell you something. There will be more fighting in the middle east. The fanatics there will proudly proclaim their hatred of the west and the US in particular. Mark my words....:P
according to his explaination any differences between what he said would happen, and reality could be because we are now on a different worldline;)
like another dimension
the things i think are stupid about his story is he claimed that every jump had a 50% chance of destroying you;) so why would you make 2 extra jumps for fun? thats like.. retarded
also even if he was successful theres no way to know if he would be jumping back to a worldline that even needed the computer, theres no way to get back to the worldline you left from.. therefore.. its retarded;)
its like sliders;)
Ummm.... no.... Read his story again.:-) He said the more this timeline moved away form his the chances of him getting back to his own timeline would go down. The whole danger thing wouldn't keep me from giving it a go.:-) There are plenty of people willing to take them odds. The casinos are full of them.
According to the John Titor wiki page, to which I was refering, he used some sort of machine, images are posted on that page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor
Except for the fact that time travel would basically prove 90% of the laws of physics wrong, including a couple big ones, like conservation of energy, relativity, and most applications of super string theory. Flight and spaceflight actually proved mainstream scientists right. Multi dimensional tunneling might be a possibility, though visiting any other dimension would probably kill you instantly by compressing your entire body into a microscopic speck, or instantly tear it apart.
And your point is....? I suspect much of what we THINK we know about the nature of our physical universe will be rewritten if not tossed out for better more factually based observations in the future. Which is why you gotta love science. Much of what we "know" is theory. We lack the technology and/or financial backing to test most of them. As a result we accept math proofs as evidence. Proofs that are very likely flawed. We don't know enough about most things to know all the variables involved. Take the weather. It's an amazingly complex system. One so complex that we are unable to predict the weather for more than maybe a day into the future. The average Joe seems to think we know what is and isn't possible. Much like the cavemen most likely felt way back. "We will be able to fly like great birds of prey? Little animals too small for me to see are what make us sick? That's crazy talk!!!"
"There should be no need for using current events to disporve John Titor as a time traveller, you only need physics for that. If a machine were invented that was capable of time travel, the machine would only be able to travel back as far as the time the machine was created."
LOL!!! You can't be serious. At least I hope you aren't. That's the same assbackwards reasoning they used in the H.G. Wells remake a few years ago. There is no such limitation. If there is then please enlighten me. Titor came from an alternate Earth. One complete with it's own past, present, and future. One very similar to ours. You can call it a "parallel universe" if you like. This is what he claims if you bother to read what he actually wrote. He only shared with his readers the history of his alternate Earth. I would have thought more people would have been familiar with the whole parallel worlds hypothesis. This is what Titor was describing. Not the classic idea of timetravel. Now I have a problem with the whole creation of a sigularity so close to the craft and occupant. Wouldn't that mean death for the occupant? I've seen the funny photos of the gravity field generated bending a laser beam. You have any idea how powerful the gravity fieild would be? Einstein observed a slight bend in the path of light near the sun. What they show in Titor's photos was much more than a slight bending. It means the presence of a gravity source MUCH stronger than that of the sun. If this were the case it result in less than favorable consequences for the planet as a whole. Get real.
