The decision to shut Stage6 down may have something to do with sites like quicksilverscreen.com using it to host full movies. They might not be able to fix the hole that makes such hosting possible, and they probably don't want to deal with the liability.
I have already spent $20 for a MiniDVI -> DVI (actually DVI-D) and another $20 for a MiniDVI -> VGA (due to the incompatibility of DVI-D and VGA), and another $20 for a for a MiniDVI -> S-Video and Composite video for my macbook. Does this mean that I have to spend yet another $20 for yet another display option. Good thing I didn't start with an ibook and have repeated the whole process again.
While I acnowledge that this kind of a desktop environment would be of little use to most of us, I can see this working out very well as a tool for designers/artists. They are already used to using pens, and this kind of spatial/visual organization would come intuitively to them. Bundling a work environment like this along with Adobe's Creative Suite for example would probably be a big success. That's assuming they release a Mac-compatible version of course, when was the last time you saw a graphic designer using a dell?
And I can attest to the effectiveness of the approach. In spite of the fact that I had already downloaded the songs i wanted, limewire style, I still went out and bought the deluxe release. I did it Because it provided more value than just a cd in a jewel case would have. There are a few artists catching on to this who have been releasing their cds with DVDs that have music videos, interviews, and even concert footage. They're including books and DVD audio/surround mixes. All of which you could surely find on the p2p network of your choice, but would certainly be kind of a hassle to find and download. As long as bands try and make cds something worth collecting, something more than just a audio file distribution method, there will be a market. And I will keep patronizing it, in spite of the utter freeness or convienience of other methods.
Naturally we need the obligatory polygamy joke. Seriously, not all utahns live in hotel style houses with their 8 wives. Some of us really only have 5 or 6.
No really, while this guy might get some support from the extreme right lobbies here, I doubt it'll ever pass. The Utah legislature is usually hesitant about passing laws it knows it will end up defending in the courts.
Not only is he an MIT grad with a doctorate, he's got a moon crater named after him, and he has flown into space with Homer Simpson. With credentials like that I don't know how anyone could doubt his wisdom.
Somehow I just don't see anything being done about this. While the net effect sounds large, it's still insignificant when compared to the energy cost of some of the other conveniences we enjoy. Any one can use meaningless comparisons like that to prove a quick point. No one seems to be doing anything about all that methane gas that milk and meat cows are producing, and I guarantee that there are enough emmisions there to get us all to New York and back.

While that may be true, let's not forget that the CoreDuo is still intended as a mobile processor. The fact that it is even competitive with the X2s is impressive. The real test will come when the Conroe comes out. Early reviews (granted, on intel supplied hardware) show Conroes kicking the crap out of even the fastest AMD processors (overclocked even) in everything from gaming to media encoding and synthetic benchmarks. They are cooler and more efficient to boot. Unless AMD pulls some magic out of its hat, my next rig will be Intel based. See here: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=219&type=expe rt&pid=1

This is one of the best parodies i've seen in a while.
