    The rumour going was that compaq america on aquisitions was that the cfo wanted a better sap accounts package than they could on compaq stuff (i kid you not).

    Complete rumour but sounded reasonable in Compaq circles

    We used Suse way before Novell bought it, and the deal with Microsoft while good for the board of Novell fails in every other respect. Open means choice - not fud or payments to Microsoft for 'mob insurance'.

    Instead of keeping Suse - we moved distro and yes we are happy. Move back to Novell ? - no thank you.

    I Worked with a promotions firms and I once got a phone call from the prs - being the most senior employee that day.

    Since most of the work was event based it was a very humourous call from the prs being that the client decides on what they want - we just made it happen - and exhibition sites do have specific forms for 'live music'.

    At the end the lady from the prs doing the inquisition was down to questions like did we have a a radio in the office, when i told her i've not seen one she was most irritated.

    I got the impression that income generation was the name of the game

    I then spoke with the boss when he was next in, 'they do that from time to time'.

    when you voting in several elections, each with different rules your just asking for problems and this happened in scotland.

    If your vote is 'meant to count' - then these politicians will find a way to make it not matter.

    example: in our local election i could vote for 8 candidates. It becomes meaningless quite quickly

    Ive been donated a hp photosmart 7550 for free, the old user got fed up with it and bought something else Cannon i think. - apart from a crap colour cartridge - ive no issues with the free photosmart. Go figure.

    OK yes i had to buy ink (no not from hp - thats $180 usd here) but while i might be a moron i don't print that many photos and also have laser printers on hand.

    Many people i am aquainted with don't seem happy with there inkjet printers - bad colours etc. Mind you i ignore complaints about quality until i cannot even see the printout. Then its time to put new ink in.

    Visiting the usa again got less desire-able. No i don't think i will be doing that conference in the US this year again.

    While i respect the feeling that getting blown up by saudi arabian (bin g. w. bush relative) is a valid fud for the american public i don't like the aspect that all 'aliens' go to America to cause trouble.

    I'm not of middle eastern origin etc but I'd still rather not visit. A thing in a national newspaper in england recently from a Journalist said that even stopping in america to jump on another plane (two hour stop-over) at Miami was the pits.

    Republicans seeking tax cuts might like to know that the tourist promotions e.g. 'visit usa' might be got rid of on the basis that america it seems does not really like the concept of 'short term visitors*'

    * a month or less.

    I part disagree - Its One less competitor in the directory arena as Novell have had to say some rather bad things about there other (non Suse)products being that 'compatibility' is everything.

    Its sowed the seeds nicely for Novells collapse with its present management.

    Thats Balmers genuis.

    Ignorance and Novell board greed has shown that these people are fools. As a former 'Suse box house' (pre Novell) we bought Suse because it was European.

    I have to respect Steve Balmer who sold Novell board absolutely nothing and got all the benefit. It would be sorry to see all the talent that Novell has in the trenches 'go to waste' but I'm sure theres life beyond dumb ceo's and a name called Novell.

    If you have one domain dkim is ok, but have one domain and a virus scanner for mail problem.

    We tried to implement domainkeys and dkim twice now in a multiple domain environment and i gave up due to signing our email complexity/strangeness.

    DKIM while it works assumes that the mail system at the other end verifies it, I do not check for dkim

    I'll will give two years and we will have another go then

    I might put money that Microsoft's sponsored MIT professor Mccormack might be the next Microsoft approved Novell ceo. (bad survey ms fud covered here at /.)

    Novell only bought Suse. Since the deal announcement I've got the office on to Fedora now (we where suse users before Novell screwed it up). We would not bother with Novell now. There existing products (admitted by Novells ceo) where rubbish and Microsofts where way better when he did a pr session with MS (covered here on /. too)

    The coders at Novell are ok until Steve Balmer says to Ron the current ceo that the project is 'bad' or the GPL changes and makes there contributions useless.

    Projects can be forked. Nothing is lost except for that exchange project that Novell withdrew its resources from after words from you know who.

    Novell's management collectively failed the 'what being a partner with microsoft' really meant.

    Yes some of Novell's engineers might be 'credible', but there management of recent leaves much to be desired.

    If you take microsoft partner money, theres a price. Sqirming 'NO NO NO NO THATS NO WHAT WE MEANT' means there credibility is also zero.

    If i was a Novell employee i be thinking about leaving.
