Bingo. This software should be held to the same government standards required for military applications. It's one thing if your spreadsheet app fails, but if a breathalyzer fails somebody gets screwed big time.

Hubaris? You mean hubris. Also I do not think he was exhibiting excessive pride in this statement. If you "own" a project, it means that whenever something goes wrong, or needs to be addressed in it somebody comes to you. Therefore you really would want to see if somebody else was tinkering in the code, just to be sure it's not going to come back to bite you in the end. It has nothing to do with hubris, and everything to do with making sure you don't get screwed. This is a New York CITY problem, not a state problem. This guy is trying to pass this law that can be abused throughout the whole state when in reality he only intends it to be used in busy city streets. Where I live, a car drives buy a couple of times an hour... does that mean I can't have headphones on if I want to cross the street and check my mail? I can't stand downstate lawmakers. What if three people fall down the stairs while listening to headphones? Should that be illegal too? Or should we just trust people to use some of their own judgment?

I could make a secure touch screen voting program in very little time. All you do is touch the name of who you want to vote for. How much easier could it be? I don't understand the need for all this bullshit. Optical scan machines? That is far more difficult than using a simple, well designed touch screen interface. Just touch the fucking name of the person you want to vote for!!! It really can get no more simple than this.

Computer engineering is a completely different field from what you have been doing and from CS in general. It's hardware based engineering.
