To me the fact that it's beta is a good enough reason for this. If it was a final release I would agree though.

  2. c# on Simple Windows Development Tools? · · Score: 1

c# using visual studio .net will be your best choice. It offers you the ease of VB when creating windows programs, at the same time the language is a lot easier and cleaner to use. I am actually surprised that VB is continuing to be released in the newest versions of .net. Why you would choose vb.net over c#.net is beyond me (other than vb6 legacy support of course). I haven't done a lot of Java programming but the syntax seems to be quite similar to c#.

From "Pirates of Silicon Valley": Steve Jobs: We're better than you are! We have better stuff. Bill Gates: You don't get it, Steve. That doesn't matter! Oh yes. Guess what. It does matter. And it will bring down the Microsoft empire.
Umm....I have to disagree there, I'm pretty sure by dominating the OS market since the time that scene was based on, Gates was correct and has proved that it doesn't matter.

If I'm not mistaken Yahoo! not only keeps the logs you are so upset about, but actually turned theirs over to the DOJ without argument. So doesn't that kind of debunk your argument of google being 'evil' for keeping records?

  6. China Situation Irrelevant on Court Date Set for Google Lawsuit · · Score: 1

Google's actions in China are a completely different situation than this. In order for Google to operate in China they must filter the results. As crappy as that is there's nothing Google can do to change that. China doesn't need Google; there are plenty of sufficient engines out there. In this case however the US government is not enforcing a law that is pre-existing, it is simply trying to gain access to what most consider to be private information. It would be different if there was some federal law saying "if it has to do with child porn, companies have to help us". In summation the China issue has to do with law compliance, this has to do more with compliance to a request.

At the same time the mp3 player market and video game market are completely different. While somebody who buys a portable game system might use built in mp3 player functionality, somebody looking for an mp3 player would not be interested in the overhead of a gaming system.

Google maps was brought into google local and out of beta much quicker than this. There must have been other reasons why google news in particular took so long. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that they were entering an already well developed market, whereas with maps they offered much innovation to the online maps market.
