I think it would be interesting to see this guy now file suit in the same court claiming ownership of slashdot.org and using the judges previous ruling as evidence. How fast would she reverse herself?
Crap, I was going to make a Jetsons comparison! Ah well, I'll just have to find a way to make a Flintstones comparison. Maybe I'll think of one in an hour or so...
To avoid awkward mid-air diversions? I live in Canada and occasionally vacation in Mexico. The carrier I fly goes non stop from a to b, but it does go over the US. This new tactic would give them 72 hour notice to intercept a given plane and force a landing because 12C is a person of interest. Will US carriers be told to turn over the lists of all flights in/out of Alaska to Canadian authorities?
Then why did my WSUS server grab 7 Windows Live (Beta) updates Wednesday morning? Granted, since I use WSUS I have the option of not approving them for installation, but what about Joe User who installs everything without looking?
So when VH1 aired the clip, did they do so through the YouTube Website, or did they download a copy and play that copy? If I read the terms correctly, anyone can watch the posted videos "as permitted through the functionality of the Website and under these Terms of Service." But wouldn't downloading a copy and airing the copy on TV violate the YT Terms of Service?
I do not see this as having that big of an impact on broadcasters, if it is done right.
Up here in the Great White North, a radio station pays 3.1% of it's gross income to ASCAP http://www.ascap.com/ and SOCAN http://www.socan.ca/. Every 6 months, they must submit a survey of every song played in a given time period. ASCAP and SOCAN then statistically calculate how much each composer gets. The money goes to the composer of the work, not the *AA.
Of course, if the RIAA wants that revenue stream it is just another way to screw the composers and performers who created the artistic work.
It is very simple using robots.txt, just move all your images to a single directory (/images) and then add/images to the deny list in robots.txt. Robots can index the rest of the site, but ignore the/images directory.
Good to know. Thanks for the tip. I *think* the integration software I am evaluating will take care of that also, but I have not gotten that far. Always good to have options!;)
Good point. The school has a total IT staff of 1. The budget for the forseeable future calls for an IT staff of 1. We are a small private school. By your logic, We should stay Windows.
BTW, while I am trained on MS, I have worked with many OS's for many years. Just not specifically OS X.
The school I work at is looking at integrating Macbooks into our exisitng Windows infrastructure. This is ONLY my experience, please do not read it as anything else.
To begin the evaluation process, I contacted Apple Canada to order a single Macbook. I had to jump through a lot of hoops setting up a new educational account, but that is understandable. finally, everything was in order and I sent in my PO. 40 days later, my Macbook arrived. Two weeks prior to the Mac order, I ordered 4 Dell laptops. They were here within 5 days. (btw, the $$$ was the same for each order.)
Out of the box, the Macbook and Dell took the same amount of time to enter user info etcetera.
I admit that I have been trained to work with a Windows environment. For this discussion, this is neither good nor bad, just a fact. Because of this training, I would like to manage an Apple environment in the same manner - specifically, GPO's.
While the Directory Access utility can kind of integrate the Mac into my environment, it was no where near what I am looking for. I began looking for third party methods of managing both systems and providing a Single Log On solution. The best one I have found so far is DirectControl by Centrify http://www.centrify.com/. They actually have.adm files that get added in to Group Policy to allow me to manage the Mac the same way I manage a PC. The policies are still limited, but they are growing. Also supported is the ability to automount a Windows home directory as a Mac home directory. So I may not need to purchase Antivirus, but this utility is ~$60 per machine, plus a $1,000 admin console. And under my Microsoft licensing, I must count and pay for all the Macs in the school as well, so no savings there.
In conclusion, we will be adding Macs. Not migrating to, just adding. I will continue to manage them the way I know how, as I learn the new OS. Also note that we intend to add a Linux lab in the future. The product mentioned above integrates a very large number of OS's into a single management framework using Active Directory. There are some tasks I grab the Mac for, and others that I grab a PC for. Depends on the task, both are useful.
Sorry, but there is NO piece of equipment that can improve the sound. When we capture audio with a microphone, there is a Signal to Noise ratio. Every piece of equipment in the signal chain adds a (hopefully) small amount of noise, thus the ratio decreases with every piece of gear in the chain. If you start with a very high signal to noise ratio, then the small amounts of noise can be barely noticable. This is why Pro Soundboard manufacturers have been using very high quality Mic Preamps. If they get the signal in clean, it can be kept clean. if it comes in dirty, you will NEVER get it clean. BTW, there is a huge difference between a cheap Peavy Mic Pre and a Midas Mic Pre. In the digital world, spend the bucks on Mics, Mic Pres and ADC.
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure you will) but in my opinion software should be subject only to Copyright, not Patent. This makes it easier to see who stole what from whom. Code is an art form, and each programmer has his / her own style that becomes obvious when you read the code. This would force someone with a good idea to actually start to write the code, not just sit back and wait for someone else to do all the work, and then claim it as your own.
I've patented such a procedure, but the patent office and I can't come to a licensing agreement.

...if I'm wearing my tinfoil hat underneath it?
Best filesharing protocol ever : SneakerNet.
LOL, I just was watching that on TV. Party on Garth!

This will be just like IE.
Great, just great, Now you are going to get the RIAA ticked off at us. btw, can you use RIAA in a gamer id?

Is the hoverboard an option? I only want one when I can get a stock hoverboard to go with it!
Shouldn't the subjec have read... and iQuote Just a thought.
So what do I use for a phone / PDA while mine is mailed away getting the battery changed?
LOL, I wish I had mod points.
How will this technology affect my tinfoil hat? Do I need to make tinfoil underwear too? Or would that just be bad for the boys?

I agree with this, google is more like a utility that the public can not do without.

I for one welcome our new nano-tech coin overlords!
