  1. Re:Kinda cool, but just Sony Ericsson ?? on Caller ID Watches · · Score: 1

You know to be honest, the newer generation Sony Erricsson's are pretty darn good. I'd go as far as saying the best on the market...

As for the device, I haven't known any Bluetooth device i've used that was latched to one type of phone. I haven't RTFA and haven't got time to, but the watch kinda looks cool. I'd probably by one and if it is only compatable with Sony's, it's a slight hassle, but I may get over it!

Here here. I mean C'mon, I am so sick of this generation of parents not taking responsiblity for their children. I am of this genereation that played these games and I turned out ok, but I don't have problems. My parents didn't ban me from playing them once I was of an age where I could explicitly understand the difference between fiction and reality.

If parents took the time to get to know their kids these issues would be less of a problem. I mean my parents knew when I was out drinking without their permision, knew when I had a cigarette and spoke to me accordingly about them. No matter how much I tried to hide it, they still knew. My old man worked long hours to provide for us as a family, yet still managed to get to know and understand his children.

Passing the buck is done all to regularly these days, if people would just admit they are ultimately they are human and they make mistakes the world would be a better place.

I think a good clip round the ears or a good belt on the behind would not go astray. This generation get off far too easily.

You know, I hear a lot of talk about Linux not being able to do this and do that. To get mp3's working is a breeze in ubuntu.

    apt-get install xmms

Works so much like using winamp. I run Ubuntu as a work plat form, but I still watch movies, flash animation, mpegs and avi's. Admittedly the packaged Totem player sucks major portions of ass. But once you get the right apt sources, installing mplayer is relatively trivial. A case of sticking the codecs in the right spot and hey presto!

Yep as unbelievable as that sounds I have come accross it many many times. It was quite amusing when we changed to an enterpise email system at work, got a lot of phone calls stating that items they'd stored in their trash folder had disapeared... Much to my disbelief!! Thankyou M$ for instilling so many bad habbits into the infinate masses of drones that follow your bad practices to the grave.

Well the use of the term "Army" is slightly mis-leading. West Aussies and people from the Northern Territory are being called together and fight the invasion.

And in an effort to stem "cruelty" the RSPCA are offering a can of beer per toad and the toads are then turned into liquid fetiliser....

  13. Re:Isn't it obvious? on Making the Most of IT support? · · Score: 2, Informative

I get a lot of simple requests and if I have time I like to help out, yes it creates more work for me, but it also creates a positive atmosphere around the company. When I'm to busy to help with a small problem, I get them to email it to me and reply when I get time.

It all comes down to your support levels, a sys-admin shouldn't be handling 1st level support calls, he/she needs to be doing what they do best. Likewise a 1st level support person shouldn't be trying to debug a large network issue, they should be noting it and passing the details up the tree.

For smaller companies that have less staff this may be harder, but the issues *should* be less as the people working there *should* be able to see the goings on much easier.

But at the end of the day it all comes down to how you manage your users. If you've got a hot headed un-happy IT dept. hating person, do a couple of little things here and there, even if he's angry, speak nicely etc etc, if he abuses you hang up, call his manager for some advice. There are ways of handling difficult people. And if you get the more vocal people onside, others tend to follow.
