    I apoligize, I live in civilization. That traveling theory may cause problems for areas of Montana where only one doctor exists but for the rest of us there are MANY doctors available.

    exactly, but an admin will have a tough time making an example out of anyone for a simple port scan (hell a nonintrusive vulnerability scan even (depending on what kind of tests are being done)

    recon work is not illegal. I can do recon on a bank without penalty

    go video tape a bank, go take pictures of security cameras, get plans for the building...alll legal.

    go scan a computer, still legal...

    start trying combinations on the vault...illegal.
    start trying passwords on the server...illegal

    do you notice a pattern

    Scanning a system is not illegal... trying passwords would be, but seeing if anything is listening out on a host is not in anyway illegal.

    maybe if you took the time to look for noninfringing material you would realize the wealth of it available.... and i wasnt speaking the amount available. i was talking about the actual transfers, far exceeds illegitmate use because the legit files seem to be extremely large, and transfered to just as many people

    actually most file sharing is legit, particularly on bittorrent. Legit torrents absolutely dwarf anything thepiratebay or any other tracker does. check out bt.etree.org for some rather large files as a simple example. World of warcraft, huge amounts of data... in their updates.

    I dont know how the response time is by you, but most likely the 20 seconds save on the phone wont matter in the 20 minutes it will take to get there.

    through the pager which doesnt operate on the cell network because the cell network is not a reliable form of communication... And when a doctor gets a page. i dont care who they are, they should step outside to call back... repeat after me, pagers use a reliable DIFFERENT network that is not the same as a cell network, so blocking cellphones does not in any way degrade pager networks. and second of all, why would you have to get a hold of a doctor at 2 am if he is travelling that just flat out doesnt make sense.

    And the emergancy services are still gonna take magnitudes of time longer to arrive than the 45 seconds it takes to find a land line and call from there.

    WRONG! you could not be more wrong.... cell phones and pagers are two different devices on two different frequencies... this would block cellphones, not pagers... and there is a reason you have a pager not a cell, because pagers are reliable, cell phones are not.

    Emergancy calls is a straw man and incorrect argument. they simply dont use cell phones because they are unreliable so it isnt a big deal.

    So someone provides some original content to make money? whats the big deal... why is it looked down upon if someone simply is trying to get ad revenue and it is all altruistic if they do it for nothing.....does the content somehow differ. no it doesnt.

    that puts stipulations on USE. Hell there is absolutely no EULA in most OSS. Because the license does not in any way matter to someone simply using the software...

    However, read a real EULA in commercial software....

    but why is your opinion of where OSS should go (i dont know how it "can go" anywhere but that is besides the point) is anymore valid than RMS.... he has done a lot, people will listen to his opinions, you are a poster on a forum, why would anyone take your opinions at face value when you havent backed them up

    bother with this type of stuff. Last I checked they were funded not through ads and payment for media? Sure they want to protect the copyright, but honetstly, they wont lose any money if people do copy (hell it lightens the load for them)
