There is always a slowing trend in buying consumer goods between July and October - before the holiday season. I am not sure if this data is compared to the PC market share for the same period. The focus is more on this umber now because of the increased market ad media focus on Apple.
The tobacco companies are seeing that their basic agenda and their best interests are very similar to the oil companies. Tobacco companies have people hooked on to a big health hazard while big oil compaines do this using the black goo they extract. Between them, it does not matter who is supporting what.
There were news recently in the press that certain laptops are banned on some airlines. Most of those laptops were from Dell. Since the battery issue has also affected the likes of Sony, Toshiba and Apple, they should probably also be banned on airlines to apply this rule uniformly. I was flying last week on Delta and they did not allow my Dell laptop to be switched on. But I noticed that they allowed a passenger seated two rows ahead of me use his Apple notebook.
I consider democratically generated information over the web more important than email. Also I can access email using web-based email if I have web access.
I wonder if this will mean an end to Netflix. I am not sure if will go to the trouble of downloading a movie, watching it on my computer or burning it into a DVD (if Apple allows it) and watching it on my DVD. Netflix is very convinient right now.
I also hear that Apple is having a lot of trouble negotiating with 20th Century Fox about this program. Rupert Murdoch wants more share and stronger DRM.
There is no vaccine for H5N1 until now. The post is correct. This is not a generic version of an existing vaccine. BTW, you cannot have a generic released into the market until the patent of the original expires. That takes 20 years.
Also there is nothing wrong with someone making generics. Without generics, the poor countries have no way of buying medicines.
As per my conversation with a M$ employee, M$ plans to settle for 80% of the fined amount. M$ has enough clout with individual European Union members - at the end of the day it's a matter of better paying local jobs for the EU members. Ballmer is supposedly spending most of his time on conference calls with EU members.
I do not agree that paying up the money is a big deal for M$. It will not change it's behavior. I was at M$ one day presenting them a Field Service system. The first quest the program manager of that group asked me point blank was - "How much is it going to cost us so that you do not do this on the Palm?" This is their attitude. Money no matter.
The best method to cut this monster to size is to seperate it into parts - OS and development platforms, Office apps, Business Apps.
It seems to me that Israel is a very good bet for American dollars to develop key technologies. Israel has been in the forefront of development of new technolgies like radars, encryption, missiles and high yield agriculture. Haifa Israel has some of the bets R&D outfits in the world.
I speak to the person who runs their (myspace) ad servers, every week. He tells me that they average 3.7 billion page views per day. They run a custom version of the Doublick 5 ad servers, almost 400 of these servers. But they have a issue of how to monetize this traffic. They are trying to find ways to do that. They have a lot of junk ad inventory. I hear that they are getting very much into the mobile space in the US and internationally - video blogging, photo blogging etc. This way they can make atleast two dollars per user month over mobile services. On another note, Micrososft is working with them very closely to convert their server farm from Cold Fusion to ASP.Net 2.0.
I have a small consulting business and some of my clients require secure email. I use Hush Mail for this purpose. If Google has similar features as Hush Mail for encryption, decryption and signing, I would try it.
Oh I am so looking forward to develop for the new Claria API! I am so excited! It will be the cutting edge platform to steal personal information from grannies and granpas. I can't wait!
>> Claria's new business model is 'a new platform designed to
>> provide consumers with a personalized Internet experience.'"
To create a personalized Internet experience, don't they have to collect more intimate user information?

Google apps for your domain and M$ Office (if offered online) are different types of products.

I am not sure if the Thinkpad will be supported by IBM in space. It may void the warranty.
Dvorak's ultimate aim is to generate lots of traffic for his site. Looking at this long Slashdot thread it seems like Dvorak succeeded.

It seems from the pictures that the phone is pretty thick. Does it have a big battery?
