I played Virtua Fighter there a number of times. Don't let the lights go out. This was a special place. A true arcade and throwback to the good ol days of the late 80s and early 90s.
One ethical question is raised. If you accept a free netbook, knowing that the price is covered by the advertisements, are you obligated to keep the adds installed? If you remove them are you then stealing the machine?
Don't know what FPS games you've been playing, but there have been some great ones or at least well fleshed out ones. Halo has a strong plot that I found interesting. The half life games as well. I'll give you that most FPSes have little plot, but most games of all genres are crap that should not be purchased or played.
Also, I have issues with saying final fantasy games have great plots. They seem to be nonsensical japanese poetry about an apocalypse revolving around androgenous bad guys with liberal translation errors and vagueness giving the impression there's more going on than there actually is.
Now if only they'd fix the damn crash bugs. Every patch I've installed has made things worse, and my near-state-of-the-art, otherwise-100%-reliable gaming PC literally crashes every ten minutes with the 3280 patch on a large map. I've gone back to playing the original version, but of course it doesn't have all the small but nice improvements and the few extra units that the later revisions come with. The CD thing was a pain, but I would rather live with that than have an unplayable game...
A bit off-topic, but a friendly warning that anyone interested in this particular title might want to wait for feedback on the next patch.
My modest rig runs the game fine in almost full mode of everything and with mods.
The problem is that education does not test in a way that people will be forced to act in real life. Standardized test do not reflect reality NOR do they test in the way that teachers are required to teach (standard based projects). When we start to look at students as more than test scores and judge them by a portfolio of works done throughout the year (much as we are judged at work - by what results we produce daily and yearly) - will education begin to be fixed. When "rigorous standards" becomes more than a punch line, will education be fixed. Having taught for 2 years in D.C public school systems, I can tell you that at least in Washington, D.C the system is fucked.
Seti is important because it showed what can be done with distributed computing. However, like has been stated before in this thread, it is looking for very old means of communicating. I think folding@home is a better use of your computer cpu cycles.
Why is Gates villified and Jobbs exaulted? You look at the tax filings, Jobbs barely gives a dime to charity and Gates has a foundation dedicated to giving money away.
Here is the fact for most air to air engagements - they take place miles apart. Cannons are rarely a factor. .
someone who teaches. Classroom management is 90% of teaching, especially in poorer areas. Good luck with this crackpot vision.
Can't the entire world do that?

It looks to me like google is quickly becoming the MS of the open source world....isn't it this type of thing that gets MS into anti trust lawsuits?

TRAITOR!! Amiga will never die! Amiga users are fans, apple is just a 3rd class cult.

Let the Jews go or the Pharaoh gets 2 to the head!
Ok, its official, apple is the new 3rd Reich. M$ can sleep safely now.
I sometimes get the feeling that Amiga users that feel slighted by the Windows community went on to become bitter Mac users.
Semore, is that you? Feed me!

Seriously, how can you have anybody BUT Shatner play Kirk?
