No it's the fact that the best unit for the job only runs it decent in 640x480. That's stretching the idea of "running" to "limping". I'm on an LCD and only can take so much blurry shit. I don't need it running native - but COME-ON - 640x480? WTF!

I won't get into the fact that the 1.6 g5 first-gen also has SERIOUS MEMORY issues - which is why it's pretty much delegated to file-server status. But hey - a 2006-circa laptop humms just fine with an engine from 19-frigging-97. Spiffy wowies!

Well I'm addicted to Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer which runs on the Quake engine - but between the Doom 3 engine port of the sequal and talks of this new engine (which 'might' fix some issues) the Quake III engine is looking long in the tooth. I'm just waiting for successor that doesn't - suck.

I see Wintel-ers getting at least 25FPS or more with just about every hardware config out there for Doom 3 - can we get an engine that is playable - just fucking PLAYABLE - on currently selling or sold in the last year hardware? (No I'm not talking 60fps with a 30 inch lcd at peak resolution on a Voodoo-whatsit-Alien-piece-of-crap-I-wouldn't-bury -in-my-backyard-it's-so-fucking-ugly-it-scares-chi ldren - I'm talking 25-35 fps on anything) If you can't give me something playable without another 1500.00 dollar expense, then fuck off when I say I think the PS3 looks 'nifty'.

I've got 3 macintosh computers sitting in front of me. They represent more than 4 thousand dollars total of hardware that I use for income. When I put Doom 3 into them - the game is wholly unplayable.

Anyone see any concrete mention in the TFA (I checked) that they're going to run higher than 5fps without a Dual-Core Xenon and a top of the line graphics card? At this point only the Quake 3 engine gets any play on the Mac because it doesn't bog down (too badly - Aspyr? You suck!).

Until I here more FPS and everyday gameplay configs on the current Mac line - mmmmmmmmmMMMMMMeh!

Yes I mentioned the email distribution model which is illegal. Granted. But a purchased track migrating to a shared directory that LimeWire keys on isn't improbable. The legality of finding an embedded tab in a massive array of preferences is an issue. The issue is that default settings create another example of an industry that can and will continue to define lawbreakers ad-hoc. I think it's great that an industry that has decided to consider it's customer base as nothing but criminals regardless of mitigating circumstances is dying on the vine. Once you kick your core constituancy in the nuts long enough, the market will deviate eventually rather than sift though a legal minefield. Home taping and time-shifting prevented this from occuring in the 80s. So much for that idea.

As far as "you're a fucking moron" Al Franken isn't 8. One of my favorite uses of the phrase is in his book "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot" - "Why would people so woefully lacking in the basic facts of an issue think they were the best informed? Social scientists call the phenomenon 'pseudo-certainty'. I call it 'being a fucking moron'. Great use of the language. In fact I love it as a concluding device. Here's an idea - read a book. Perhaps you can convince me YOU'RE not 8 fucking years old. Language nazi.

Ditto - there were many points that carried a lot of drama, that were utterly fsked up by Mossberg and Swisher. Swisher was particularly cheesy after the admittedly over the top sentimental Beatles' reference, but screwed up what would have been better served by silence or audience reactions either of which would have been more interesting. As much as it's easy to bash professional broadcasters and interviewers, if you compare these print-geeks to someone like Leo Lapporte - I think someone like Leo would have done a better job (with a disclaimer that Mr. Lapporte falls apart around industry veterans like Woz etc). Mossberg wasn't nearly as bad as Swisher - but he had his problems as well.

I've worked in publishing and print people can be as wonky as they come to public speaking - let alone carrying an interview. They might ask the right questions for print - but they will blow a public performance time and time again with problems in delivery, nervousness, you name it.
