oh christ. a JAP in the making. the whole point of dance class and activities is learning social skills and independence, to learn how to be on your own. Yes, yes it would have been better for her to just sit at the side of the class feeling bad. Lesson learned, daddy isn't always going to be there to make things better. Sometimes loving a child means letting them feel like crap. I usually don't give a crap what people do with their kids, but this one of the reasons my college experience was hell, surrounded by people that couldn't defecate on their own and driving around in their daddy's beamer they didn't know how to maintain.
I was going to insult you for being slow, but considering our politicians haven't even bothered to ask the question I guess you're doing alright. The point is to eliminate Western (mostly the U.S.) hegemony in the middle east. Those that use terrorism to achieve their goals can't beat us, but they can bait us into committing international relations suicide. It seems to have worked. We (well half a dozen of us anyway) really fucked ourselves over. We now occupy a country with greater allegiance to Iran and Hezbollah than us, forced our lackeys in the region to distance themselves, all for the small cost of $500b and 2800 dead.
All cops are dicks some of the time. Obviously they went too far here. I don't believe the story that the kids were just playing in a tree, but even if they were destroying it for kicks they're 12 years old for christ sakes. You yell at them, throw them in the back of the patrol car, and take your time on the way to their parents house. At which point, if their parents have any parenting skills at all they will help the police in scaring the little shits. Instead they threw them in jail and now the parents (the more effective discipliners) are stuck comforting the kids.
I was in Georgetown (DC) a couple weeks ago on Saturday night. Around 00:30 I walked by two teens talking to a cop. The cop was incredulous that there were two 14 year olds walking around georgetown at that time of night. While there are all ages places in DC, Georgetown essentially becomes 21+ after the shops close. The cop told the kids to get into the back of his squad car. "Your either going to get into trouble or get hurt, I'll take you home." There's no curfew in DC (yet) so technically he was abusing his power but he was actually Protecting & Serving. Of course, as the cop was huge he was probably one of the MPD officers that cost the city millions for illegally arresting hundreds of IMF protesters. So a hat tip when they get it right, stink bombs when they get it wrong.
"It's particulary bad when many of those countries are hostile to America, or could become so at any point."
All correct, but missing a key piece of the puzzle. Securing access to that oil has made those countries hostile to America. Our conflict with Iran begins with British/American sponsored coup of (democratically elected) president Mossadegh after he nationalized the oil industry. We have had to buy off (with funds and troops) the Royal Saudis, earning the hatred of the Saudi people. Without a dependency on oil we could have been kinder and gentler or just ignored the middle east altogether.
reminds me of the case of the sextuplets that learned english, but only after having developed their own language as toddlers. Very cool, order out chaos.
When I received cold calls I used to act like I didn't understand them. One time I immediately said "no habla ingles". There's a pause, and then "Apparently you don't speak spanish either, it's 'no hablo ingles.' I'll take you off the list."
In D.C. the non-emergency number is 311, and yes it does work. I have a mentally ill neighbor that every couple weeks will convince himself he's dying (I think he's just lonely or something) so dial 311 "hi Nelson is freakin out again." 10-30 minutes later a cop or fireman shows up and does a quick check. I'd be awfully pissed if my consideration (hanging out with a "dying" Nelson for a half hour isn't a whole lot of fun) was being taken advantage of by some douche bag calling the cops because somebody is doing something legal. (high whiny voicy) "Officer, I don't like what he's doing."(/hwv)
This and Mike McCurry(http://www.politicstv.com/blog/?p=261) is what happens when no one understands how anything works.
Also, the sex offender comment in the article is rather strange. Hell, Washington's sex offender database doesn't even include information on level 1 offenders. Level 1 are considered low risk to reoffend. Not that that really matters, considering IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT HE WAS CHARGED WITH.
AFAIK, the insurance industry is very concerned about global warming, and are starting to get more involved. I'm not sure I really buy the whole global warming thing. The climate is so complex I'm skeptical that anyone has it even slightly figured out. That said, I don't think it really matters whether it's true or not, since there are so many good reasons for energy efficiency and distributed energy production.
uhh, I wouldn't exactly call the cpu market 100% competitive. It's, for the most part, a duopoly, with massive barriers to entry including R&D, patents, mindshare, and vendor lock-in. The fact that they can drop prices 60% should tell you something.
part of the problem seems to be that Vonage didn't actually transfer the shares to their accounts. So the thinking of some of these people is, "you didn't tell me I was getting shares/you wouldn't let me sell them, and now you still want me to pay up?" As I didn't have any money in this, I think this is hilarious. Vonage is going to get sued into the ground on this. It takes monumental incompetence for an IPO to cause a bankruptcy.
"The sec is there to protect us not them"
No, the sec is there to protect the market not us or them. The purpose of the sec is maintain the public's confidence in the securities market. Most of the time that means looking out for investors, but not all the time.
This reminds me, last week I had to go to some state government offices in Trenton, New Jersey. In order to park you have to show ID to the state trooper at the gate. He looked at it, "Where ya goin?" "Oh, I'm going to the department of revenue." He looked at me funny, "Don't know where that is, but I guess you do." After I parked my car I started laughing histerically. Its not like they wrote down my name or something which they do when signing into the buildings, they just look at your ID. For the full minute the Trooper was staring at my ID, exactly what was he trying to ascertain? Potential thought process: "hmmm, blue, connecticut license, i need something to drink, organ donor huh, but the portapotty hasn't been cleaned out in weeks, maybe i can get reassigned to highway patrol next week, yup definitely an ID, wonder if i'd get yelled at for having a radio out here, what a crappy car, I'll hold him here a bit longer just to make sure he's uncomfortable, bad boys bad boys whatchya gonna"---"have a nice day sir."
Mr. Warner, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent business plan were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on the planet is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Kind of missing the point. The utilities already make some basic adjustments in power production, but the process is limited in how closely they can match demand. This is simply temporal arbitrage. Theoretically the day/night price difference should adjust to match the cost of this storage system, but won't go to flat fee. If it went to flat fee, there would be no point in paying for this storage system so no one would use it and we would be back to peak/offpeak demand differences.
They're called markets and they do amazing things.
Yick, writing that makes me feel dirty.
thank you thank you thank you. It's my belief that much of modern physics is no longer science, if it ever was. Every once in while we need to step back and say, "I dunno know, never will." This is not to say physics is useless or a waste of time, only that we will never be able to comprehend a system of which we are a very small part.
the solution is going to be worse than the problem. If I make a typo and go to the wrong site, big deal, it takes 5 seconds to correct it. Now I'm going to be nagged all all the time, well i would be nagged if used microsoft or explorer. Sounds like clippy is expanding his empire of annoyance.
what "juridical loophole"? Ignoring the constitution and signed treaties is not exploiting a loophole, its exploiting an ignorant supreme court and american people.

That's not very fair. Apple can open source its kernel, MS can't open source its kludge.
Before, my typos would just get me a server not found. Now I'm going to get stuck with charges for surfing long distance!

Considering how much "professional" reporters rip off bloggers without even citing sources, I won't be losing much sleep over this. e.g.: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_200 6_04_02.php#008130
