    They dont work all that great in reality i get maybe a -10 difference on my signal strength vs without it running. This could be a fun little hack to try out, for educational reasons, of course.

    We have known for years about backdoors in cellphones that can turn them into listening devices for the feds for years. http://news.cnet.com/2100-1029-6140191.html im not sure why this is somehow all of a sudden evil when the feds could tap the mic since at least 06.

    Pretty much. Once we have the names of a program. we can submit FOIA requests on them. thats one of the catch 22s with FOIA. you have to know what you are looking for, you cant just say "I want all the info on the NSA spying on americans" you need to say" I want all information on codenameA codenameB codenameC." will they give it? doubtful but its a start.

    Im not so sure that PC enthusiasts are down, I just think there is a larger audience of PC users today then when it was still a hobby and therefore it seems small. at one point we were the big fish in a small pond, now we are the small fish in a big pond

    I havent had a sub in many many years but as a kid in the early 90s PCmag was just plain awesome, It really helped me learn in my early years (6-12)

    the people who buy from street vendors in NYC instead of the botique shops are not getting ripped off, they know they are buying fake goods. for some people spending 20 bucks ona handbag that is close enough to the real thing (sometimes better believe it or not) know damn well they are not getting the real thing when it costs 2000 bucks in the store down the road.

    exactly. they are knocking back full time employees to part time to avoid it. so you arent just losing that 1/2 hour you are losing 10 1/2 hours
