    thats what thumbdrives are foe. dont even need to load IE for firefox or chrome downloads, load the version on the tumbdrive and it auto updates to the new version!

    Of all the sites I use on the web, the only ones Im locked to IE are my email app thru my business and the CRM system. (IE 10 - no legacy need) other than that. I havent needed IE for anything else in years now. I am not saying there are not times where your wifes situation are recomended. However in my case, i took everyone I know off IE close a decade ago now and have not heard any complaints.

    look at netbooks 2008 vs netbooks 2013.. I dont think he is wrong per se, Tablets (in their current form) are consumer devices, the same as a TV or a video game console. but they are not a replacement for a PC, at least not in the way they are being sold right now anyway

    if the CEO of RIM said that tablets in their current form will be dead in 5 years, I think the answers from most would be different

    I also use a fire and while it was decent in stock form, putting cyanogenmod on it turned it from a simple locked down machine into something I can actually use. Not everyone sees things the way I do but for me, the fire was (at the time) the best bang for the buck, especially rooted.

    true, I just assume that it is much easier to log a machine that the business owns vs one that it does not even with such remote wipe tools

    Oh I know, but I can think of situations where it would not matter, such as the employee leaving on his own without warning, the user turning off the cell signal etc. If the phone is a business phone the same is possible, but traceable by the owner (business)

    'What happens if you buy a device for an employee and they leave the job a month later? How are you going to settle up? Better to keep it simple.

    ok so same situation, what happens when the same employee leaves in a month yet in this scenario, he has all your data on his personal phone, and you cant get it. Someone didnt fully think this through before opening their mouth.

    I think the easiest way to start to fix this would to be to hire masters of different fields to handle patents of said field. I think that right there would help quite a bit. there is no reason someone who went to school for cooking but gets the qualifications and becomes a patent officer should have any reason saying yes or no to something such as computer systems / hardware or engine design etc.

    the issue seems to be that the patent officials either

    A - dont spend even 1 second and just stamp it if it comes from a known company
    or
    B - the patent officers dont understand what they are looking at, yet dont want to sound stupid, so they stamp it

    at least thats my theor

    If I were getting beat up by a competitor for what I consider stupid patents I would start filing stupid patents to fight back as well.

    all this does is show once again that the patent system needs work.

    there are thousands of servers and probably hundreds of thousands if not millions channels. I for one have not seen a/s/l since the mid 90s myself. Almost every topic I enjoy and would want to chat with others about has an IRC to this day. yes Im a minority ( /. reader) but still

    they both exist. I can only speak for myself and people I know who have used voice commands while driving, however EVERYONE, myself included, will speak to their phone for the text, HOWEVER we all double check the msg before hitting send. I think that is where the issue lies. we simply dont trust siri or google voice or other text to type things to be 100% yet. and until that can be true (if it can ever be) it will never be as safe as simply driving and not doing other things.

    yeah there will always be people like you and my father who like the small form factor. As I pointed out above i know very few people who want sub 14 in laptops, as a 28 year old i know very few people who want sub 17 inch laptops to be completely honest

    If only android had access to the Itunes store when it first came out it might be selling better today

    I mean I wish all devices could access all stores. but I would blame netflix for that just about as much as I would blackberry

    I said the same about netbooks. I thought they were a fad (and still do since my dad is the only person I know who enjoys using a sub 14 inch laptop) I have a tablet, Ive had a few over the years (yes before the iPad) and truthfully there is one maybe 2 that I find usefull today and the reason They are useful is that they have keyboard docking stations. I am talking of the transformer series and while I havent worked with it yet the windows surface, but it looks like it does have potential
