I actually think you're on the right track. I tried very hard not to think about this at work today and tried not to look at that confounded letter. The hexadecimal solution for the middle part is just too obvious (i.e. you didn't even need to decode the other parts to work out it was [supposedly] hex...). Too easy, and this bothers me.
I think that insulting someone on an online forum is a bit different. When you insult someone you do so overtly. What happened here was nothing short of a planned, over-time, malicious attack, involving deceit, baiting and leading a person on. It's wrong on so many levels.
What you say is correct... to a point. For me (and yes, this is anecdotal and subjective) hot graphics can really enhance gameplay. "Hot graphics" alone is not enough, however. But excellent graphics at high resolutions, coupled with good gameplay and story line, IMO, make for a killer combo.
Ray, this is what I propose: I will assume the role of an alcoholic homeless person living in a carboard box. During my spare time I will build a computer out of coconuts and driftwood. I will then use this computer to post on slashdot and download illegal files. When the RIAA summons me to court I will make a suit out of seaweed and defend myself. Cunningly I will have counsel (you). I will then throw away my disguise and expose my underpants that I wear outside my stockings, proclaim I am superman, and hit them wear it hurts. What are your thoughts?
You know... economy is not about money. Money is merely a score-keeper. I think your comment is wrong because economically it may be better to be green. Just my opinion.
Well, that's interesting. Gasoline is a hydrocarbon isn't it? And hyrdocarbon is an organic compound isn't it? So, where did these seas of hydrocarbon come from?
That's not true. I am very glad that NYCL comments on these things. The more that it's debated and commented on, the more people see how absurd the thing is. Even if they don't see that it's absurd the whole issue gains "popularity" and, hopefully, the reality (that it's crazy) enters the public arena.
I am not sure even 4.1 will be a stable release. However, they have made massive improvements. Most of the KDE 4.1 ported applications look really nice (and, yeah, it's not all just eye-candy). Running KDE trunk (aka 4.1) today resulted (for me) in quite a few crashes (more than a week or so ago). Do these crashes worry me? Not really, because I send the core-dumps etc to the developers so they can reproduce them and write fixes.
I didn't know that 4.1 went alpha today, and (IMO) that seems a bit hasty... BUT it will get more people testing it and (hopefully) submitting patches... so, in that light, it's a good thing.
"The university feels confident that the person who took [the tapes] doesn't know what they have. Even if they do know what's contained inside, it's very difficult to extract that information," remarked Menendez. I am sorry Menendez, but difficult for who exactly. Your school is not unique, nor is it the pinnacle of knowledge (no school is). If we could decrypt things 50 years ago, how is a "compression" method hard to work out?
A University spokeswoman said the school has stopped shipping backup tapes off-site for now." Well, I am sure that makes everyone sleep a little easier tonight--it's obviously all under control.
Ditto
Well, that's interesting. I got a BSOD about 60% through the tests... not seen one of them in a while.

Well, that's a good question. Unfortunately I am not sure the fact that they are rich or not is relevant.
Probably

Additionally, his real name is NewYorkCountryLawyer. This by itself was news enough for me to read the story.
Which definition of GB? The 32-bit OSs can only address 4GB because it's 2^32 (i.e. 4294967296 bytes)...
I don't think it's the OS programmers fault. All OSs I use do convert, but what is the use of that after you've bought a product?
Very interesting essay. Thanks
Unfortunately fluxbox is not a Desktop Environment; it's a Window Manager.
"Pretty much well established" by who?
Have you even used KDE 4.1? It is nothing like Windows 2K. I guess I really shouldn't respond to trolls.

You're saying the same thing as me. Compression can be viewed as a weak encryption (and a relatively easy "encryption" to decode).
I was going to suggest the same thing. The KDE Education Project. They have some interesting stuff there (working and in the works).
