Initally I found it easy to think that web apps would displace desktop applications like Office. But the truth is, these solutions depend greatly on wireless technology. I need to be able to be connected to my documents everywhere. This is the reason thin clients just don't work... yet. I always picture the typical scenario of being on a plane. Until I have fast, broadband speed internet on a plane, these will not gain any footing on Office of OpenOffice.
At this point, I wouldn't submit a resume in anything other then.doc format. Hell, I wouldn't even submit it in.docx format... They are still making progress.
God, you're right, the GP is being ridiculous. Everyone KNOWS all you have to do is click on the "&^4" to add users and the "(/9er" symbol to remove users. AND If you need help, you simply attach a second monitor, stand on one foot, and pray to Steve Jobs, and the answer you are seeking will be whispered to you in ancient Mayan.
Oh, and did I mention that I need admin privileges to do ANYTHING?
Like Linux NEVERS asks for your root password. The fact that you need admin privledges to do certain things is actually a huge benefit to Windows. The only problem is Windows BY DEFAULT sets all users to full out admins of their machines. It's dangerous running any machine with any OS as an administrator ALL the TIME.
I wanted to get a Mac... I unfortunantly don't have any vital organs to sell in order to finance the purchase. But on a more serious note, I've used many different flavors of Linux, and in some small fashion, I know what you're talking about. But I also think Windows has become, in some ways, a convention unto itself. Many of the Linux windows environment are modeled in a small part to mimic the experience of Windows. My theory on this is that they feel they might be able to get people to jump ship if they can provide a similar experience. Regardless, I use Windows at work, I use Windows mostly at home, again no real headaches at all. Maybe I'm just not too concerned with a shiny, little interface. sorry.
I just wish I could delete my facebook account. It's actually close to impossible, first you have to delete all your information (wall posts, friends, etc.), and then they'll delete your account. Very, very time consuming. But I doubt any of that info is REALLY gone.
I don't disagree with a single point that you made (except maybe for the way you made them). But I have to admit, I've had little to no trouble with MY Windows machine. It's always when I have to fix someone elses that I start to get the usual headaches.
To me - it really isn't all that astonishing. While I believe Mac usage has gone up pretty drastically over the last several years. They are the only one selling their product. If someone wants a Mac, they have to go to Apple to buy it. And since they've created a culture, where their product is not only percieved as more efficient and better but also as trendy, I don't really find it that suprising. Still 10% is comparitivly a drop in the bucket.
when will a project similar to WINE come out for OSX?
When enterprising Mac users develop it.

I think thats the same with just about anything. People will follow Steve Jobs like he is some kind of savior right now because everything he touches turns to gold. If it were the other way around, people would be blaming his poor management style for bad performance. You see the same thing in professional sports all the time. You'll have a manager who is,for lack of a better word, a jerk, and people buy into it because he gets results. The second that team starts to lose a few games, they'll turn on the managerial style faster then anything. As long as Steve Jobs continues his success, things will go well and people will think he's brilliant, the second that begins to change, or better yet, if it changes, he'll be gone.
This just proves that old Republicans can learn new tricks.
It's pretty stupid to think just because someone's old, they are less web saavy. It's also pretty stupid to assume that all Republicans must be collecting social security right now.
And finally, how successful would OS/X be if Apple sold it as software for any platform, Microsoft-style? It would be earth-shakingly successful, probably garnering 50% marketshare within one year. And probably making 10x more money than they do now.
Well last I checked FreeBSD hasn't been doing all that well.
Cause Apple's a cult and you have to swear your undying alliegance to them upon purchasing their machines? I don't know... but that's my guess. Kinda like scientology if you ask me.
To be totally honest... as much as it pains me to admit this, Wii was one of the worst investments I ever made. It's cool when I have people over or anything, but whenever I want to play a real console game, I play my 360.
YouTube has become a hub for internet media. That's why they shouldn't cut out the middle man. If they simply provide their content in a seperate place, is it really going to draw people away from posting Viacom's content on YouTube. Hell No. So why not beat them to the punch, cut your legal fees, and increase your profits... ALL AT THE SAME TIME?
Radiohead is making some fantastic steps for the open source community, now if they only go back 10 years and start putting out good music again....

There will be drunk programmers ALL OVER THE PLACE!
Junk sounds like a great idea... maybe I'll change my name to... let's see "'; Drop where username = 'kellyb9'" Thanks for the advice :-) !!!!

I'd feel safer going to the moon with software written in PHP.

Correction. 10% means 10% of the entire bucket.
Agreed, but is it just taking into account the consumer market, or are they including businesses in this study?

I think you should print out all your data packets and send them via mail.
You should run a few hundred miles of ethernet cable down to Pennsylvania. I'll let you plug into my linksys router.
I have a big problem with him voting for this: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/07/10/1341207. Oops, I apologize for saying anything remotely bad about Obama.

I'm going to put it simply - since I own both a Wii and a 360. Cross-platform games SUCK on the Wii. Plain and simple.

... Windows XP, Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Linux, and BSD. An attack against a Mac is also a possibility.
Why don't they just say... "any computer that has an Intel chip?".. shock value I guess.
