I live in California. My view of the world is liberals wanting the government to raise their children. You've seen plenty of movies mocky how things are in California. It's not a joke. If you cannot accept that liberals want the government to raise their children, and conservatives want churches to raise their children... well.. you're just being so deliberately polar and blindly hateful that it's not worth furhter discussion on the matter.
I'm not a republican so don't even go there with your My Team vs Your Team hate fest stupidity. I hate both of the mega parties. Just keep up the polar fighthing... idiot.
nVidia does just as well with both Intel and AMD processors. Even if AMD and ATI merged, it would be in nVidia's best interest to stay on their own unaligned. It's not like the ATI + AMD combo would actually make something better than nVidia could for chipsets. And assuming they could, so what? nVidia would just turn it up and prove that they can compete. nVidia can always crank up the heat when they need to. They're good at that.
The only concern nVidia should have is if the AMD Process line started closing its architecture to play favorites with its ATI side. If that happened, nVidia would have to align with Intel. If any of this happened, it would really suck for a lot of us unless AMD + ATI could allow nVidia to continue unthreatened.
I know you're trolling, but to a certain extent it is your right to raise your children however you want. It certainly shouldn't be the government's job! Just don't try to tell a libby that.
You're all right, but at the end of the day a parent needs to be able to make informed decisions to raise *their* child the way *they* want to and not leave the Internet to do it for them.
Of course I'm not going to advocate (or deny) that by driving an electric vehicle the global warming will be corrected. But that's another discussion. What it certainly does do is gives us far more control over how we manage our energy production pollution related to it. Plus as the article notes, everyone can put solar panels on their roofs and at least shave a pinch more efficiency. We all gotta have a roof so it isn't wasteful of space.
It's like everyone thinks they are smart enough to design the system and already see the flaws in their personal designs, so therefore the entire concept is stupid and cannot work.
Let engineers do their job. Our current approach is definitely a bit outdated.
"Battery power isn't about saving energy anyway, it's often about shifting the pollution to a big facility that can handle it instead of having heavy pollution control equipment to move about. The first hybrid car I saw, back in 1987, embodied this principle and was designed to work at an underground mine. Above ground it ran on fuel, but below ground you wanted to minimize the air pollution as much as possible so it ran on batteries."
That's really naive. Batteries allow for greater efficiency and decoupling between the power plant and the car. How much innefficiency is there in having lots of tiny little combustion engines zooming all over the place with a bunch of ignorant car owners (I imply we all are ignorant to some degree with our cars) compared to a couple hundred regional power facilities that can use whatever fuel and power generation necessary? They can change to new power and fuel types without affecting the auto industry and consumers. They also can be heavily regulated and monitored to make sure those couple hundred catalytic converters actually work and they are performing proper maintainence to make sure efficiency is maximized and pollution is minimized. I mean.. how many car owners actually care if their cars are a couple of percent off from max efficiency? How many will change their driving style to match the size of engine they bought to squeak out another two miles?
How many of you have been behind a car that makes you gag and you can see the trail of soot in the air for a quarter mile behind it?
People that use such sophmoric arguments are... well.. sophmoric.
Very few "web standards" have anything to do with "web browsers". Most of them deal with Web Services and business to business standards that piggy back on HTTP.
A real cracker could write their own rootkit, and it would still be called a rootkit even though that particular rootkit wouldn't be available to anyone but himself.
It's very common for people to write their own tools, and then use them. That doesn't make them a script kiddie.
Let's separate the brainless script kiddies from what a rootkit is. It really doesn't matter who uses a rootkit, how the rootkit was developed, or even the motives of the user of the rootkit. A rootkit is a tool that provides unrestricted access to the system it is deployed on. Regardless of who, how, or why.
Why would you need more than one server on a big beefy server instead of running everything on one server? Different OSs or environments?
I definitely understand the freedom it buys you. Would you use it at home, or is it mostly a server rack IT sorta thing and that's about it?
I've always felt running a couple of VM's on the desktop could be a useful way of dealing with malware. Searching for pr0n and warez in a virtual machine and whack it when I'm done. Farting around with installation of software in the another. And keeping a trusted basic VM for things I do everyday like email, finances, etc. I'm sure you could think of a better approach, but my thinking has been using virtual machines could be an effective solution to all of the malware troubles we have these days.
I've never used VMware but have heard lots of great things from many people. I always wondered what the business model was for VMWare. Who uses it? Why would they pay for it? Things like that.
Are there any legit home uses for VMware on a regular basis?
Wow.. really objective rating there. I'm a troll and the other guy isn't? Objectivity makes me a troll.. and the other guy being a prick gives him an Insightful raiting?
WTF? Some of your Slashdot readers need to drink more beer.
You actually know something more about how this product works? I didn't do any research on it. But in general, I tend to have respect for Sun hardware. Sun software on the other hand (Solaris) I tend to have very little respect for. It works and works well, but is clunky and very outdated IMHO. Yah.. I'm a Linux guy.
That's technically not true but effectively it is. An uncrackable key/algorithm is when the key is longer than the message. Which ain't ever going to happen with movies.
Isn't this how DVD-Video encryption was cracked? By brute force?
I've always advocated the solution to SPAM is to make it legal for people to publicly lynch people that buy from SPAM and telemarketters. It's kind of like Darwinism in a way.
Dude.. drink beer.

Other thoughts on this?

Good catch!
Wow.. that's staggering.

I hope they don't let go of the string and let it float away!
Wow.. really objective rating there. I'm a troll and the other guy isn't? Objectivity makes me a troll.. and the other guy being a prick gives him an Insightful raiting?
WTF? Some of your Slashdot readers need to drink more beer.
Depends on your reasons for using the OS I guess.
At least I'm logical about it... unlike you. Try to be objective, please?

Hanky the Christmas Poo!
:)
I can see it now.. they will make a turd shaped burner.
Maybe they didn't do much at all to control the heat? It wouldn't be the first time a vendor left heat issues to the end user to resolve.
I doubt this is the case though. Sun tends to make pretty good hardware. At least that's my limited experience.
Old paradigm: Charge more for less.
New Paradigm: Charge more for a little less.
Gotcha. It makes sense now. I haven't heard the old saying before. Are you a Libertarian?
That's technically not true but effectively it is. An uncrackable key/algorithm is when the key is longer than the message. Which ain't ever going to happen with movies.
Isn't this how DVD-Video encryption was cracked? By brute force?
Very good point!
I don't understand your sig. Wanna help me out?

Intelligence and virture are not the same thing.
They can hijack my hard drive, but at least they can't smash it into a sky scraper.
