... and all this time I was pissed because my birthday wasn't on xmass and I didnt get twice the presents. Wish i knew the kids were doomed to being dumbasses. Now I wear my summer birthday(suit) with pride.
My scenario was a bit limited and unfair, i will admit; and something as dramatic as sharing what you bought with other people online without your knowing is a bit out of line (Last thing I need is Grandma to know i bought Big Booties #7 on sale at Amazon). Or anyone knowing that on my FB account. But I am still not convinced that legal action is nessisary, especially to the tune of $9.5mil (pocket change or not). I also take strong issue with this being prosecuted at the state level using California state laws (with exception of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Video Privacy Protection Act). Internet regulation really needs its own court system, or handled at the federal level. Prosecuting websites using state laws is a little creepy (just think if a concervative state could get its hands on pornographers).
not to mention the final judgement:
"...also back the creation of an independent foundation devoted to promoting online privacy, safety and security. The money for the foundation will come from a US$9.5 million settlement fund."
Creation of an independant foundation? And who is going to facilitate that? Maybe the prosecuting lawyer? Do we need another body of people trying to play arbitrator of the internet?
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I am pleased that there are those who are fighting to preserve internet privacy in the face of a very aggressive marketing world. That being said, it is very hard for me to support a lawsuit against a social networking site, that 1.users have to sign up to use 2.no one pays to be a member of. 3.is not a financial/medical/etc company or something that contains what one may deem as sensitive data. While I dont know enough about the ad system they put in place, i am willing to bet one could defeat their "beacon system" by using some fairly basic practices and principals of online use. i.e. disabling cookies, monitoring what 'active-x' apps are being run and not using facebook as a means for any important communiation (or hey, just dont use facebook at all). But hey, i'm just another web user. what do i know?
What is funny about this, is that people are defending Apple and attacking AT&T over this. As if Apple was taken advantage of. I think we are starting to see the real underbelly of the mac beast. This is their product and you WILL use it how they tell you to.
Like most the posts say above this one- This is not a big deal. We are not talking about a critical flaw in an OS that will cause for potential data leaks from government systems, nore is this a flaw in the design of a massive medical or credit card system. We are talking about a website that 1. you have to go out of your way to sign up for and 2.lets you throw digital water balloons at your friends, or make comments about their mom for everyone to see. From a technical standpoint it is a little interesting, perhaps, though just another exploit in some buggy code. Someone said it best above here: what is posted public will remain public. Facebook is not a means of secure or private communication.
If you have ever taking an forensic (or biological) anthropology course you find that there are some physical charecteristics, beyond sexual organs, which help to determine the gender of a set of bones. This is known as sexual dimorphism (the systematic difference in form between individuals of different sex in the same species). There are 3 easy ways to identify (though, genetic mutations can fool this- althrough RARE for all three).
1: On the back of the skull down towards the spine, there is a protuberance called the External Occipital Protuberance- This exists on the back of a male skull though is none (or very small) existant in women (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/External_occipital_protuberance- it is a small outgrowth of the back of the skull (if you are a male feel for it- if there is a female that will let you touch them, you will notice they are missing this protuberance).
2:The angle of the jaw in males is approximately 90 Degrees, the angle of the jaw in women is typically over 125 degrees.
3 (this would require x-rays):The Sciatic notch (part of the pelvis) is much larger in women- notably for child burth- also (extra point)the Subpubic angle is significantly larger in women than in menLhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subpubic_angle This angle would explain why those with a trained eye for runners whould see 'her' run in more of a masculine fashion.
. Yes there are cases of Genetic mutations that cause for criss crosses of sexual organs (holding on the Michael Jackson joke here). Many times, however, the doctor solves that problem at birth (nip, or tuck).
As for a view of this in the sports world (I really could care less here, but I think it is an interesting subject), running is broken into main classes, male and female. If you have traits of both, this would disqualify you as you do not adequately meet only one criteria, without meeting all the other criteria. As an example: a transgender male would not be allowed to run in a womens division, no matter how much estrogen, or how many operations they had.
I totally agree. The precedence could have some major implications for other European ISP's, or even just those operating in that neck of the woods. We have seen how complacent the UK's ISP's have been with the government there (even though this is not a government imposed change), it would not be a surprise to see a few others fall like dominoes. Especially with RIAA lawyers at their heels.
ok so 120,000 people use their ISP (maybe more in a household or small biz)... Thats small time considering the vast size of the internet user pool. Granted the implications kinda suck, but this will have the same effect as a small town just blinking out of existence on the web (even though we are talking about blocking just one site). Interesteing news, yes- impactful? Not really.
ah, gotcha. Right- so sorry i missread that. Funny thing about slashdot- if you dare speak ill (or crack a joke about): Linux, google, environment or apple you are sure to get trouced. There is an almost one-sided view that all users must take or face some sort of arbitrary modding. Though i guess its evident that I dont read the posts right either, so maybe i have it coming. Sorry again for that!
Yeah... Instead of the 2 paragraph response talking about my understanding of global warming, and myself being a "global warming zealot" I think I'll sum up my response with: Get over your self.
Clearly the sun is producing way too much heat and energy- wasting its resources by not internalizing its combustion. I think we need to ban the sun, have a few rallies and focus on greener alternatives untill it can make changes.
If it was animal rights activits, they should have just eaten hamburgers infront of them. That will get the password out quick... Then again, that might also count as torture. "burger-boarding"

That's no moon...

AntiVirus Pro 2009 is awesome, though I just upgraded to Antivirus 2010 (well it did automatically). You should see all the viruses it finds!
Will it help my aching hands from using the keyboard all day?
they are turing over a new leaf with this.

you must have been trying to use the wrong port.
Can we keep the axis of my anus out of this please?
My guess is that if you are blowing up facilities in the name of animal rights- you probably do not eat them.
If it was animal rights activits, they should have just eaten hamburgers infront of them. That will get the password out quick... Then again, that might also count as torture. "burger-boarding"
I think we should have a competition for naming this project- I nominate Skynet.
we call this BSOD.
Talk about a computer virus. Norton Utilities now offering penicillin
"100 million times drier than the Sahara desert"
Thats right- its so dry just thinking about them leeches juice from your brain. Ouch!
"no- wait ctrl-Z, ctrl-Z!!!- damnit!"
