Clearly what is needed is a coordinated network of computers and physical warfare technologies that can detect these threats and determine the proper course of action. I suggest we name this network Skynet.
While not really all that useful as a battery on a small scale, this sounds like an excellent back-up system on an industrial scale. If you have ever had to work around back up battery systems for large scale computer operations, they are a pain in the ass and take up quite a bit of space for some not-so-impressive voltage.
We might need to contact Enron to instigate more rolling black-outs (like they did in the late 90's). This might help keep the population under control.
Really quite impressive how far reading the the mutations have come along in the DNA world. National Geographic has a really awesome ancestor research project that will trace your own gene mutations back- in some cases to when we all came out of Africa. While it's not much good for the more recent history (last 1000 years) it's fascinating to think back to 5 or 10k. I hear they are going to work on samples from some mummies they found in South America and hopefully shed light on the puzzle of where they originated.
I'm sure someone has mentioned this before- but I'm too lazy to read all 150 comments.
But to keep in line with Murdochs thinking here, then maybe we should go back to Horse and Buggy since the Motor Vehicle put them out of service. In fact lets go back mail order catalogs and banish the internets e-commerce, since those have been put out of business.
Aside from the attachment issue- Twitter, SMS and Facebook all have character limits. Email can go on for DAYS (No really, how many times have you gotten some letter forwarded to half the planet that you spend 30 min reading "LoL' and "OMG" till you finally see the photo of a donkey wearing a rain coat)?
but seriously folks- yes perhaps the day to day emails over fairly trivial stuff will decline- but I know for my company i answer nearly 100 emails a day, with no sign of it stopping. In fact, its up 25% from last year.
The little known fact is that the 500 word essay has been replaced by the much smaller and more efficient 100 word essay- in the spirit of Moore's Law.
"...or even put a mission to Mars in jeopardy." If you are talking about a human mission to Mars, even the lightest of cosmic radiation would only allow for a one way trip for any human. A round trip would provide fatal doses (just a side note).

I REALLY hope the first shirt they make has the Superman logo on it. Not to be cliche or anything.
If this God particle turns out to be like Lego's I should certainly hope it comes in a pirate and star wars themed collection.
How the hell is this flamebait? Enron, really? Is someone upset about an Enron crack?

...a fairy dies.
75% of statistics are made up 48% of the time. -- time to troll me!

The kid who made the explosive with baking soda and vinegar (or water and dry ice) is getting an A+.
The acting was so bad I couldn't get through the first 15 min of it... No wonder it got canned!
Really it's like any other high paying job- I think if you get the Engineering degree you can participate in the 401k plan.
Playboy has articles?
In russian internet we know who you are when you scream.
At some point the fly was heard screaming "My name is not Quaid!"
origami. I hope they can fold my DNA into crane... or a box.
I hope they make consumer models of this soon.

So that means I will be 100 by the time Windows runs smoothly on my machine?
