Except that half of what I said involved user controllable buttons allowing their preferences to be respected and I have no world-power governmental military force behind me to back it up (just a handful of slashdotters whose opinions I might have slightly changed).
Note alot of this fancy web tech came along because most web users are using one or two different browsers, many of which had the ability to nag the average user into submission (again, no "shut the f" -- " up" button available).
Bringing DRM into the conversation is like comparing the evils of sugar in Kool Aid with the evils of grinding Hitler's corpse into a new flavor of Kool Aid.
Hey, no need to burn the newer modems to the ground. Just close and make sutiably optional all features that pose significant privacy/security/annoyance risk.
It would really rock to be able to pull down whole books in a few seconds though. Might challenge people to new speedreading records.:-)
The fact that there are thousands of commercial web sites with pop-ups and cookies doesn't mean anything. Corporations should be free to make a profit just as you should be free to tune in to different sites.
Yes it does, it means browsers are going against my will on my system. There should be checkboxes for sound and the ability to spawn new windows (the ability to spawn them under anything flat out shouldn't exist). There should be site by site control of cookies so I could allow sites very narrow usage if sites I want require them.
Basically I think the web should be stripped back down. Too many cute flashy features that compromise security in various ways.
The U.S. government has never recalled or devalued its currency.
Explain why they're raising the amount of money in circulation (scarcity decreases, so does value). And why I can't exchange my old silverbacks for pounds of silver?
They have been devaluing currency for as long as I can recall. So I reiterate my subject line.
For some reason, I forsee a lot of these devices getting lost around laudromats and arcades.
I could imagine in the next cold war spys depositing their journal and a dime into a telephone, later on their contact drives up in the phone truck and does his routine.:-)
Thats one of the lower quality MODs I've heard. One of the instruments sounds like a car trying to start in a minor key, and its used throughout the whole tune. Don't introduce people to.mod files as something worse than MIDIs...
If you want to hear a high quality repetitive music MOD, try Bubblegum.:-)
Putting the computer in an open (to the outside) environment will create a lot of condensed water on the electric boards, which is a very bad thing.
Ummm, yeah.
Last I heard condensation happens when the surface in question is colder than the air in question. I assume (not that I would so much with a supercomputer) that components still get hotter instead of cooler.
You don't need a supercomputer for any of those. Though Doom 3 might come close.

I do find it funny that you brought that up, though. I remember an Ep of Babylon 5 where one of the characters claimed to have heard the distinctive sound of a Shadow ship fly by. Heh.
I recall that the sound often has a strong telepatic element to it. They may just be offering us a bit of the sixth sense there.
Why not pick on the selective use of jump engine recharge delays instead?

when ships meet, they're always on the same level with the same orientation. and the energy waves (i.e. when a planet explodes) are more like a wave on a lake and no sphere. so the ship always tries to fly away and never uses the z-axis!
I recall Spock once said something like "His search pattern indicates two dimensional thinking."
Of course then they moved "down" so far and made such a big frigging deal about it that it nullified any sense of intelligence to it.
If life was an MMORPG, Microsoft would be deep in a dungeon somewhere.
Nah, Microsoft would be that cool looking sword with the low damage that keeps getting the newbies killed because every NPC drops one when it dies and it can't be disposed of.
You may know this, but even in a fully switched environment, collisions and collision domains are still relevant, as it's always possible for two interfaces to attempt to transmit *to the same interface* at the same time.
So its silly to assume a single switch would know better than to try to send two packets at the same time to the same wire?
I guess I've underestimated teh intelligence of these things a good bit...
Is there an over-riding force to prevent stalemate moves from continuing forever?
Chess has rules.
Is it just me, or does telnet not have these problems? :-)
Um, you do realize that you cannot perceive framerates over around 32 fps don't you?
Baka!

Have you ever heard a stereo cellphone ringer??
Why shouldn't we leap straight to 5.1?

Escaped robot....fine. Just as long as it's not a freaking escaped Battlebot!!
Yeah, I know.
I fear the day a remote controlled doorstop attacks me...
If you're on a UNIXish system, shame on you for not being able to find a util.
If you're on Windows get FilZip, I've found it to be a very useful though slightly buggy program.

Its greating seeing technology helping people keep fit.
Yeah, who knows where we'd be without button-in-ground-that-lights-up technology...
I also might even *gasp* learn how to dance!
Or you might just learn how to stomp on four areas of the ground with good timing.
Don't expect any of it to translate well to a ballroom or something, funny picture...
it gets about 923749083274fps in quake III ;)
:-]
You should see how fast it renders Pong!

As for the explosions in space, I'm going to rig my spaceship to add the explosion sound effect when something blows up. Just to piss them off :-)
Spectator: "They're ships blowing up, oh no!"
Comms: "Hey, they launched a probe, we're getting a signal."
Captain: "Lets hear it then."
Signal: "BOOOO OOOOO OOOOO OOMMM MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM! . . ~TRANSMISSION END~"
Spectator: "Thats a change from merely hearing the debris hitting our ship...."
who owns the electro-magnetic spectrum?
