From my own (long, sordid, embarrasing) experience with console gaming, all it takes is for gamers to start with the 'ConsoleX is dead' talk. Which is infuriating from a certain point of view (just ask a DreamCast owner), but that's the way things go.
Heh, I've been saying that Sony's consoles have been dead for about 5 years now, those poor Playstation owners have an amazing amount of denial built up and just look at me through the veil of their own distorted reality like I was crazy.
Dreamcast fanatics have it easy, filtered graphics, $50 consoles. Let them eat cake.:-)
Yeah, but a 100% failure rate for drives made in different plants a year a part within 3 months is really really unacceptable. One of the drives I got back seemed to be shorting my system, I'm glad I got the damn thing to tell me it was bad fairly quickly.
This coupled with one account of someone opening up their drive to see writing on the platter and my old IBM voice recognition software that won't install on my W2k box until I upgrade to windows 95/98 (I got the damned thing new) makes me think really nasty belittling things about big blue.
why would they replace a used drive with a new drive?
Because the drive only took 3 months to fail and they're clearly unstable enough as is without resorting to replacing broken drives with once broken drives.
I wouldn't doubt there are laws concerning power usage [there are when there are water shortages].
Of course, water is a bit more important than electricity. Recycling your urine is not quite as ridiculous a concept as someone on a power generating stationary bike.
Why not suggest ahead of time that they limit their bandwidth instead of waiting for someone to take advantage of what they've been promised and then charge in decapitating everyone in your path?
All these uncompressed TIFFs are making my web browsing a really slow experience.
I think I should tell you that I don't think most case companies also make heatsinks.
:-)
Though my black heatsink rocks.

So you compromised your upgrade path for ten bucks?
What do they teach in college nowadays...
Hammer sounds more sexy than P4.
Depends on if you're into watersports.
Sounds like AMD wins this round of Roshambo though:
"P4!", "Hammer!", "...damn."
In the meantime people are getting locked up for writing software that the MPAA and/or RIAA (or Adobe) takes offense to. Or for smoking a plant.
Plants have rights too!
as impossible as me jumping out of the window and flying,
:-)
I'm sure you could make a few feet past what intertia/gravity would suggest.
or the moon being flat.
Have you or anyone else been there recently? How would you know? Looks awfully flat to me.

Asking for this is like saying "I won't buy a car until they can fly through the air." In reality, what you're really looking for is an airplane...
Two things:
1. Airplanes probably aren't street legal.
2. Most airplanes won't fit in my garage.
Very few soundcards support accelerated mp3 decoding, very much ogg.
:-)
Probably because we broke the 100 MHz barrier.
Almost outright silly to accelerate it now.

I have not even bothered to RMA it cause I expect the next one to fail.
:-)
Yeah, but it probably costs them more than it costs you in shipping. And you can make a hobby of using to failure.
IBM makes good, reliable drives
Tell that to the going on four bad drives I have from them.

barenaked ladies, im sure you'd get more hits that way
Actually, for sub-word search capable clients (most I'm guessing) that more limits the amount of hits you might get.
Bare and naked can be found in barenaked, but there is no barenaked in bare or naked.
if 90% is in use by 10% of the customers that means 90% of the rest of all customers have to fight over the remaining 10%.
Only if theres a psychotic admin playing with QoS.

Peer to Peer comminucations is not limited to file transfers. That few things take advantage of that fact is something that annoys me.
why is it that even people on slashdot get kb and KB mixed up? 150kb/sec is not the same as 150KB/sec.
I think you mean Kb and KB, kb is just laziness.
Actually, having ActiveX off kept minesweeper from running here. Could still show me stuff I had, didn't seem able to execute much though.
Surely something can be thrown together as an open source/freeware project without requiring megacorps to sell us a crippled billboard version first.
Why hasn't VoIP sans stupid telephone integration freely proliferated? This can't be that hard to do...
Couldn't they just chuck the audio-cassette and insert one with some cool new c64 gamez?
:-)
I'd be interested in seeing how Quake 4 runs on there.
If you're just role-playing yourself, save the money you're sending to the EQ people and just go out and live life.
Sure, you save money killing movie attendants instead of clockwork spiders. Its still not something people will praise you for.
And you don't share needl^H^H^H^H^Hcomputers so its relatively safe.
