I'm confused how the Pi folks thought they could claim the device is both unfinished and finished to avoid the import taxes and CE certification? It kind of makes me question their competence.
I think I implied much worse than I really feel about Steam. My mention of Steam was merely only in that both services started by essentially forcing itself on its users. I make no claim towards the functionality of the individual programs.
I really disagree with this strong-arm method of getting people into their digital distribution platform. I'm not going to sugar coat it and suggest Valve was any better, as all Valve titles after HL2 required Steam as well. It's a shame that services can't entice users based on their merits and instead resort to strong-arming legitimate users with these tactics. So if I was to purchase SimCity on Steam, I'd need both Steam and Origin running to play a video game? Talk about redundant.
I'm disappointed. I've been wanting a new SimCity for years. I have been a big fan of the game spanning all the way back to SimCity for the SNES. I'm not sure what my motivation I'm supposed to have to purchase the game with all these conditions attached.
I don't get this argument every time it's brought up. Microsoft has a notice on their website promising that they will not peruse patent cases against people for using custom C#/.NET implementations. Not only that, Microsoft, with the release of.NET, released a cross platform open source implementation of CLR, free for use and study. Sure, people will often counter this by saying that Microsoft can't be trusted over some silly "promise". To which I say, really? I could understand that if it was some unofficial channel, some verbal agreement that they would not peruse legal action, but that's not the case. Microsoft is publicly and openly stating that they won't pursue these types of cases.
Until recently, Ubuntu has included Mono in its base implementation. Its removal is more a result of trimming the fat, not fears of patent infringement suits from Microsoft. You'd think if Microsoft was going to go apeshit over the use of.NET on other platforms (notably Linux), they would have attacked the most popular distribution that was using it all this time.
The US & Canada isn't the "rest of the world," dude. We (the US and Canada) the ones who chose different bands from the actual rest of the world. Apple shouldn't be advertising 4G in Australia if it can't deliver 4G to Australia. It's entirely deceptive.
It seems like a logical choice to us, but in Japanese culture, I wonder what questions may be raised over someone who had their name changed, and with a large gap in their work history? Perhaps that would raise more questions than keeping their name would.
That's almost the same plane I made as a kid. Every step was the same except for fold #3, where a flat face is given in the Eagle, mine were pointed. Otherwise it's the same design I grew up with.
Giant advertisement notwithstanding, this whole thing seems a bit pointless to me. First of all, I can't for the life of me find out what the individual specs are for the servers. It certainly matters for Minecraft. Second, you can get a decent enough server for $6-8 a month. Good enough to cover 1-5 players, with the details of the hosting plan plainly laid out before you.
They only support the stock server which in many ways is inefficient and frustrating. They do mention their intent to support bucket, but that's not available now.
If the prices were tweaked and they elaborated a little more on the kind of hardware they're offering you for your server, I think this could be an interesting addition to the many many companies already offering minecraft hosting. But right now it just does not seem to interest me.
If he joined Microsoft Research, they do a lot of amazing things. I wish I worked over there. Granted I don't know where in Microsoft he went. Though working at Microsoft in general I hear is actually a rather nice experience save for a few departments. (I have a friend who works there and is quite happy)
I felt sorry for this pub until I actually went to the website. The summary would have you believe the big guys are trying to crush the little guys over a little innocent naming. Not so-- Visiting the website will immediately welcome you with faces and figures from the films, trademark and copyright infringement everywhere.
I don't feel sorry for a pub that is trying to leech from the popularity of the source material and the films. Maybe it didn't start out that way, but that's what it appears to be now.
If that was truly the case then there would not be so much internal struggle over this issue. h.264 would be implemented and we could all move on with our lives.
Oh boy, couldn't back that up with your name, eh? Had to go Anonymous? Typical.

What country is that? That's quite shocking.
Should people who still weigh themselves in stone really argue this on Slashdot?

Mmmm. Hot wings.
That's hilarious. I shall have to give this game a go.
Yeah? And a game winning baseball is just a baseball, and a famous player's jersey is just a piece of cheap clothing. It's just memorabilia.
Won't someone think of the drawn children?!

Who the hell was ignorant enough to actually mod this up?
Nice bit of FUD there.

Every time they make this claim, I can't help but giggle.
He didn't make a broad claim. He just said "various religious groups," which is true.
Is there a reason why you didn't bother reading the second half of the sentence before you commented? Are you a member of the Redundant Brigade?
What did you fix exactly? His original quote basically said that except for the direct reference to uuencode.
I don't. People are different.
