IANAL
But, if I understand the US legal system at all, the law as it stands is on the RIAAs side. I have no doubt that this annoys Judges as well as the good burgesses of Slashdot and so I propose a solution. Ask for a continuance of around 75 years. Although pressed to avoid lengthy continuances, I'm sure that there must be a judge somewhere in the US sick of the RIAA mugging old ladies and who would be willing to start the ball rolling. Just accept the suits as they are and give the defendants 75-100 years to assemble their defence. I think the RIAA would stop.
I heard once in a psychology class (but have been unable to corroborate) that we too would be able to see in the UV range were it not for our lenses. The human eye lens is apparently slightly yellow and this filters out the UV. Patients who were given early artificial lenses reported being able to see new colours because the artificial lenses were clear.
I have heard that some nations allow women to regard those things that they have bought with their fathers' and husbands' money as their OWN POSSESSIONS!
It remains to be seen whether, in the case of a full-scale rebellion against the US Govt, the nation's armed forces would follow orders and shoot its own people. Generally troops do not like to kill their countyfolk.
The Caste system still exists but really only concerns Hindus (and not all of India's population are Hindu). On a wider scale, discrimination still exists in India as it does in all societies. I have a friend who is a Sikh, by birth if not in practice, and I asked him how his parents would react if he went back to India with a variety of spouses.
If he went back with a pretty blonde Swedish girl he would be regarded as very lucky. Pretty Swedish girlfriends are status symbols in any nation I suppose. If he returned with any Indian/Pakistani girl of any religion his parents would be supportive and accepting. If he returned with a black girl his parents would think him crazy. If he returned with a MAN he would never be allowed in the house again.
I have recently returned to my native land (that's Scotland, that is) from Denmark having attended University both there and here. The Scottish network policy seems to be to ram the Computer Misuse Act down people's throats and then set up filters so that they can't break it anyway. That and the constant threat of expulsion for minor transgressions. Technically I cannot access anything that is not directly related to my studies as to do so counts as misuse. This includes checking private email and using *MY* print credits to print out non-academic material. The Danish attitude is that "you are an adult so behave like one" and they leave the network unrestricted. As long as you do not break Danish law then you will not be bothered by the University or anyone else.
I agree completely (-1 Redundant...)
I would like to use Linux and have a spare laptop with Mandriva installed on it but guess what....it never gets switched on. The reason is that I do not have the drivers necessary to make my hardware and peripherals work. I know that there are 'geek' methods for getting by this but I am no programmer and do not have the time to learn how to write my own printer or WLAN card drivers. I read a good article on Linux a couple of years ago where the author, a Linux user himself, bemoaned the state of Linux development and developers wondering why they spent so much time on making pretty GUIs and no time on drivers and installers. If I can connect to the 'net and print stuff out without having to 'configure' anything or use the command line then I'll use Linux but until then I'll stick with XP
I lack the time to play any of the 'big' games (WoW, etc) so I content myself with playing those games that can be started and finished in about 2hrs max. These definitely help me de-stress my life.

others follow. They are the world's third largest retailer after WalMart and Carrefoure and are the world's biggest online grocery business (tesco.com). They will not have done this without knowing what they're getting in to.
and yes, they have 1/8th of the UK retail market and make £2Billion profit every year without breaking a sweat.
One can differentiate between an action being justifiable and an action being "right"
Invading Iraq was justifiable
Invading Iraq was not "right" under established international law
Sending thousands of young men to die in Vietnam was justifiable
Sending thousands of young men to die in an avoidable confrontation was not "right"
"Truth is, after all, a moving target"
Almost any action can be justified and what is "right" can vary from generation to generation or even from year to year and the two are not necessarily the same.
Not in my house they don't. Nor do any of them engage in wanton carnal lust, three-way action, live lesbian sex shows, hot oral action or any such other shocking and disgraceful behaviour.
I agree that the change from orbiting a star to orbiting the Sun is peculiar. It also, to me, does not address the position of captured 'planet-like' objects such Titan or Ganymede which otherwise fulfil the requirements of 'planet' especially as they have also deleted the clause "and is neither a star nor a satellite of a planet" from the Planet definition (but left it in for Dwarf Planet).
I agree! Not since Brontosaurus was renamed to Apatosaurus have I been this upset.
WHAT????
I'll have to go check that one.....
Noooooooo!!!!! Well it seems that the misnaming was pointed out in 1903 and it just took a lot of people a long time to catch up. Tyrannosaurus Rex's real name is Mabel
WorldPay, backed by the Royal Bank of Scotland, is gaining ground on PayPal (in the UK at least)and it's fairly easy to use except that unlike PayPal it refuses to store card details so you have to go to the bother of fishing your cc out of your wallet every time.
I remember a similar situation from the early 90s. A company called Gasteiner (I think) made external hard drives for the Atari ST that offered...wait for it...a capacity of 1 MEGABYTE. This mammoth drive was named the MegaDrive for obvious reasons. Along came the Sega Mega Drive several years later and their lawyers forcibly snuffed out anything with the word "mega" in it including Gasteiner's Atari drives. Gasteiner took to calling it the "drive with no name" and launched a competition to select a new name. I have no idea what the winning entry was and since the ST died shortly thereafter the point is moot. Nevertheless, Apple's actions are perfectly in keeping with normal business practice. It is not Apple's fault, nor is it the fault of the idiot lawyers who fire off cease and desist notices at everything with the word 'pod' attached - it's the fault of the courts for allowing this sort of nonsense to perpetuate.
IANAL

I asked a girl to show me her curved manifolds and got a slap! I daren't ask about her quantum vortex.
Well God bless her and all who sail in her....

oh....brillant :(
I'm not sure the "troll" mod is justified in my GP post
Brillant?

Therefore everyone looks like you! (under cfl light)
Do you happen to look like Kirsten Dunst......?
The answer to that one is that the mutations aren't random, that's where God comes in. It's impossible to prove otherwise.
