  1. Re:news? on Best Buy Invaded By Blue Shirt Improv Artists · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Links of interest on a single site does not constitute "news." Their should be some element of timliness to the links. Also, considering the competition, i.e. digg and others, links should be presented to current events at a faster pace. The idea I was bringing out was that CollegeHumor, being a college level comedy site, shoudln't be scooping slashdot on links of interest. Also, I said simply that slashdot should be on top of things. Apparently you translate "News for Nerds, Stuff that matters" into links of interest. Well, the best buy thing was not news, and doesn't matter, albeit was a link of interest. I am relevently pointing out that Slashdot shoudl put more effort into gathering NEWS. Calling me an idiot, and assuming a race to be first is without merit, and the simple fact that my post was first does not prove your point.

  3. Re:Interesting, but not new on Electric Car Faster Than A Ferrari or Porsche · · Score: 1

Regenerative breaking uses traditional braking methods, disc and drum brakes, but ADDS to it, the resistance of a generator. By definition, it has to be better. Regualr braking is disc or drums that stop you. Regenerative is disc or drums AND a generator that stop you. Also, you are a sucker for horsepower. HP is a poor indicator of the power the wheels get to rotate and move you. You need to foget about HP in an electric car and stick to Torque, and Torque curves. Electrics are far better. Also, you mention the weight of the batteries. In none race car electrics... the reduced weight of the gas engine or the removal of it, and the weight of 40 gallons of gasoline, never seems to be factored into the added weight of the batteries. The Prius is as heavy as it is because of the amount os steel used to make it, as opposed to the amount of plastic used in similar sized cars.

  5. Fair Comparison? on Sony More Trustworthy Than Microsoft · · Score: 1

Is it fair to compare Sony's handling of consumer electronics to MS's handling of an OS? An OS is far more complicated and difficult for an end user to interact with than a TV or walkman. It seems like if the play button makes the music go, then Sony gets credit, and if a malicious coder makes a virus that causes MS products to crash, than MS gets the blame.

  6. Actually... on Theaters Unhappy About Faster DVD Releases · · Score: 1

Although it would not be good for the cinemas... I believe that a fuller more entertaining experience could be had at home... in a movie room that had decent projector, comfortable clean seating, and a great sound system. Not having to wait on line, or rush to make the 8:00 showing, or struggling to find good seating are real problems that don't exist in home theaters. All that great picture quality, large screen, and sound system at the cinemas would be utterly wasted if I had to sit against a side wall next to a loud child, or behind a tall movie-goer. That and having to spend 50 bucks for a night out with the wife isn't so great either. The only thing that keeps me going at all is not wanting to wait a year to see the latest film.

  7. Hmm..... on First Steps Toward Artificial Gravity · · Score: 3, Insightful

It seems to me if you can take some manner of electricity, and produce some manner of a magnetic feild, and generate some amount of gravity... then doesn't it seem that there should follow a mathmatical equation that, sort of, unifies these observations in a grand and quantifiable way?

  8. A fact???? on Firefox Community, Sickly Out of Control · · Score: 4, Insightful

You know how people use the word "literally" when they mean "figuratively?" Apparently, it is also now okay to use the word, "fact" to mean "opinion."

Have we gotten to the point where we think it approproate to praise the President for his inaction? Not for his ability to actually fix a problem, but for concluding that it would be best not to act because of his recognition that his actions will only make things worse.

Right on... Is it an "immunity" because no one bothers to write viruses? Think of it: If you are a an evil software programmer, and you want to torment as many computer users as possible, do you write a program that affects 97% of the computers, or 2% of them. I wonder... and I hope this is not construed as flamebait here, but seriously. What would be the consequence of having a highly popular OPEN SOURCE OS in terms of security and hackability?
