I pretty much agree with what you say (they will advertise anyway)... and I already knew that. It's more the principal I guess? (Though if we ALL stopped responding to ads, they would go away. I know, I know, never happen.)
For me it's sort of like the stupid junk mail I get form AT&T every week, trying to get me to sign up for a land line (we only have cellphones). They change the ad every few weeks, and though it is for the same service at the same price, they change the 1-800 number - so they will *know* which directed ad worked. Now I've thought a few times about finally getting a land line since the reception in our house is not the best. If I was ever to though, I would just go to their website; I have no desire to help them feel like sending me the equivalent of a trees worth of paper every month is helping anything at all.
And I never said anything about anyone lowering prices because costs went down... but you can be sure as hell that the reverse is true.
I don't click them either, but mostly for other reasons. 1. Those ads cost the company money every time they are clicked, eventually raising prices for us the consumers, and 2. Clicking on them reinforces to the advertiser that the ads work, thereby creating more ads.
This is not just about Apple. In America at least, consumers have been trained to have fanatical brand loyalty. Apple sticks out (in this case) because they made a phone that people like. I see all of my friends phones quite often... I'd say 90% of the time that any of us get together phones come out at some point. And most of those are utterly forgettable, probably because most cell phones aren't that great to begin with, while the iphone is unmistakable. Back to my point, any time your friends get a new toy - from a camera to a car, if they like it, they show it off (obviously this does not apply to everyone). And they are also mostly going to talk up the good points of said item. It's just not that often your friends buy cars or cameras in comparison.
Totally agree with you, but for me, here is the important part (emphasis mine):
...--will enable rollout of significantly more scalable WLANs that deliver 10-fold-greater data rates than previously defined while ensuring co-existence with legacy systems and security implementations.
So, cool. Don't know which I'll be replacing first, my laptop with 11.n or my wireless router - but it's nice to know that any new device will work with the old. (The extra throughput would not benefit me as my cable internet is the current weak link...)
Well... I'd have to say maybe, but it's certainly not limited to T-Mobile. Scroll down to 'Operating frequency' * Quad-band GSM EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 * WCDMA 900/1700/2100 MHz My guess is it will be sold unlocked in the US, much like many of their high end phones.
I normally hate when people comment about prices, but come on... $80 or $100 for a mouse? I guess I'm a hypocrite, but that seems ridiculous. I'll be sticking with my regular laser mouse that works on *almost* any surface...
The problem is precisely that the editors are self selecting!
No, no it's not. Pick any really popular wikipedia article. Invariably morons or kids will add stupid edits, but they never stay long. The more intelligent entries always win out because enough people care to fix them.
A lot of people in the military are not that well educated and the idea of them trying to write manuals sounds horrendous.
No one is forcing anyone to edit anything... as someone noted above, wiki editors are self selecting, my bet is the more educated would contribute>
With Wikipedia, items posted by random people usually require a source. What source is there going to be here? This is mostly going to be mostly opinion, not tried, tested, and true facts.
Ah, the mantra of/.... RTFA.
Under the three-month pilot program, the current version of each guide can be edited by anyone around the world who has been issued the ID card that allows access to the Army Internet system. About 200 other highly practical field manuals that will be renamed Army Tactics, Techniques and Procedures, or A.T.T.P., will be candidates for wikification.
Since both planes met requirements and were good aircraft, DoD chose the company with the better track record.
I have no reason to disbelieve you, but, does the DoD really have a track record for making logical choices like that? Not from what I've read over the years... Would be interested to read some citation that was the real reason.
Lets put a different perspective on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friends#Ratings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama#Ratings Now we see that for it's last season, Futurama had an average of 6.4 million viewers per episode, or about 3.4 times less than Friends. The shows had the same running time. The cast of Friends was paid $1,000,000 per episode. All kinds of conclusions can be drawn from that, but in the end, isn't it all about eyeballs to the network? 6.4 Million viewers is certainly making quite a chunk of change for the network. On a somewhat related line of thought, aren't they sort of like professional athletes, where the best they can hope for is a (somewhat) limited career, where they have to try and make most of their money in a short time?
From reading your comments in this thread, you seem like someone who has done a decent amount of research. I've been pondering getting either the 3G S or a Nokia N97 - have you taken a look at that? Also, just curious why you say "RIM is dying." From what I've (admittedly fairly casually) heard/read, they look like they are holding onto their market share...
OK, I have now stretched the window across both of my 19" monitors. Rendering is still FUBAR. Weird gray boxes around the left of seemingly random peoples comments, as well as the friend/foe colored dots tossed randomly into the middle of text. For what it's worth, I have Firefox 3 here at work, Firefox 3.5 RC on my laptop, as well as Chrome and IE - none of them render/. properly these days:(
You are trying for some kind of humor? I can't see the joke in your comment.... ^ALL^ of the sensors I've seen (and I've seen quite a few across the US and other countries) have been built into the plumbing of the individual urinal.
I'm finding it hard to believe that someone with such a low/. UID would not know that water cooling systems for computers are self contained... (at least traditionally, TFA does not suggest otherwise).
You have got to be kidding. Or trolling perhaps? I went and looked at you comment history; you don't appear to be a troll, or I would have just ignored you...
well so much for do no evil
Of all the things Google has done (or been accused of), not many people have ever said that selling an ad was evil. Or perhaps you are calling them evil because they got sued for it?
Honestly, search using google is.... well teh older a search engine gets the more difficult it is to get the information you seek
What?
and quite frankly, the more advertising you have to wade through to get it....
Again, really? Google? the most I've ever seen is a few plain text 'sponsored links' at the top of the first results page, sometimes a few keyword ads on the right hand side. I know you've never seen more because there has never been more. Are you confusing Google with some other engine?

... well I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.
Blade Runner. You don't want to give away any spoilers for Blade Runner. I'm not even going to touch the one about it coming out in 1982. Not going to ask you if know what site you posted that on, either...;)

I have mod points, but there is no mod for horrible puns... :P
Citation please?
Did you forget to read what you quoted? 850/1900 are two of the frequencies the phone operates on...
Well... I'd have to say maybe, but it's certainly not limited to T-Mobile.

Queue nerds flaming about how real war isn't a videogame.
I would say modern warfare is quite often exactly like a video game... (e.g. drones that can be piloted from thousands of miles away.)
A lot of people in the military are not that well educated and the idea of them trying to write manuals sounds horrendous.

As far as the gp (sexconker) goes, from browsing through his comments (in other articles), it seems pretty obvious he is just a troll:
