Partisan politics seem to get worse and worse every year. That being said, at least he is doing something. Some of it might be to get attention, but his politics in general have always struck me as more honest then most. I think he's well aware that he isn't going to be a mainstream candidate any time soon. He's WAY too far left for the country at this time. What he does do is make people think, and push the envelope a bit further. The polar opposite of someone like Delay or Gingrich that the Democrats need.
I was looking forward to the game, being a long time Final Fantasy fan. Unfortunately it looks awful on my TV. I have an HDTV and playing the game I keep thinking that this sure is last generation. It's jaggy, and frankly looks bad enough that my roomie's non gaming eyes can even tell it looks kinda bad. I long to be able to slide it into the Xbox360 sitting next to the PS2 and see the game the way it should be displayed. Maybe when I break down and get the PS3 in the next year or so (resold, as I'm not buying a new one from Sony) it will look better.
Best Buy says no preorders last I heard. http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/best-buy/best-buy-no- ps3wii-preorders-206764.php
Walmart did an online preorder though I'm sure they will get a few in each store (good if you have a local one that is open 24/7 for the midnight buy). I lean more towards Target myself and will most likely be camped out there.
While I don't consider your combat flamebait at all, I can concede that some of the moderators on here just might. A big question to ask here is that was the outcome for these particular awards swayed a bit by the anti-science establishment that is holding strong in the US now. Prizes for the big bang theory and RNA? Sounds a bit like an anti-fundamentalist shot across the bow.
As much as Sony has done it's best not to get my business I will probably end up owning all 3 consoles eventually. I already own and enjoy the Xbox 360. The Wii will be purchased as soon as I can pick one up without preordering for Zelda and Metroid 3, and the Sony as soon as I can without preordering (which will most likely be considerably later then the Wii) for games like White Knight Story and the Final Fantasy's that will be exclusive.
I saw the video linked from Penny-Arcades site yesterday and have to say that I was pretty impressed. It might not be popular to like Sony at the moment, but if they can pull of a title or two like this then I may start to sway my opinion back in their favor. I am a gamer at heart after all.
Personally I enjoy it. There are a lot of old school games on there that I have played but lost the disk to, never got a chance to try, or didn't realize were so fun. Variety of games is nice too, from strategy, to action, to fighter, to educational games. The downloads seem slow sometimes while it loads the resources for your game but other then that I'm happy with it.
They also offer a free trial period of a couple weeks. Last time I payed attention they were over 600 games and counting. New games every week so far too.
Sure 1000 is nothing, nothing that is until one of those happens to be you or me. It's that small first step that makes them think they can take a bit of a bigger one next time. All of this is done, of course, in the name of tracking the terrorists and keeping us safe.
The point here is that even if they were told they were legally required to give up the information (or just rolled over when asked for it and gave it up quickly) they still should have stood up and said "This infringes on our customer's privacy and I would at least like this ruled on by a judge as being legal."
They didn't, so they should be held liable for it. Quest, who didn't give up the information, is the only one in the clear here IMHO.
This, of course doesn't make Quest any better a company when it comes to the other telecom issues facing the world today.
They could get out the vote a bit easier without being quite so harsh on doing it. Make it a reward system instead of a punishment. Offer legal voters five or ten dollars to show up and vote. The American sheep would come out in droves and overwhelm most voting centers.
How would these people feel if there was a company that hired similar looking actors to perform "bad acts" and edit them into the movies. I can picture a few scenes that I wouldn't have minded seeing extended.
Think they would be ok with it if there were a couple family friendly Disney movies with some bestiality thrown in? I'm sure there is a market, just like the market for the Family friendly violent movies with the violence and sex removed. Suddenly it isn't quite as ok for them anymore is it?
The way I understood the replacement is that the module will be sitting on top of the tank instead of piggybacking as the current shuttle is. If it does, do we really care if insulation falls off during launch? It won't hit the part that comes back into the atmosphere anyways. I remember those old Apollo films where the chunks of ice were just dropping off in huge chunks.
