I mean, for crying out loud, there are already specialized wikis for such topics - you won't even have to start one!, trying to fill wikipedia with that is plain absurd...
May I ask what's the excuse they used to get away with implementing this law? Data can easily cross the border through the internet. A terrorist is likely not to have the strike plans in his laptop. Is this a case of the US government just being plain anti-business? Cause I guess if I was a tourist I would get a feeling of "I'll never visit this place again" if they seized my laptop or even if they browsed through its data as if it was a threat to national security...
I for one can't wait for the time I'll need RIAA's permission to own devices! It will be awesome, they are selling this BS as if it will make people's life easier, but you see, the fact people will not be able to own as much devices as they want will really piss them off, this could be the final blow to DRM.
You know, I've always been the utmost firefox advocate, but even I think the best choice for canonical would be using iceweasel instead, this is ridiculous, EULA = Not free software, period. And no, this is not an issue for adopters since iceweasel is basically the same as firefox only with a different name and logo.
Chromium* is open source, and there's clearly still some work to be done on it. In this article, Neil McAllister decided to take a peek under Chromium*'s hood and view it through the eyes of the developers who will improve and maintain it in the coming years.
In my opinion, it is impossible to get all the advantages of open source when it isn't cross platform as well. Specially if the only platform it runs on is windows or OS/X. Well, many of the warranties that come from a piece of software being open source, really go to waste in this case. For example, continuity of the app still depends heavily on a company's good will and survival...
There are a lot of guys saying that google doesn't need to port it to Linux since they are competing with IE. Well, guess what? We probably need it to be ported, cause there are already hype victims that are staying in windows because there is no chrome for other OSes. Oh, and in case my earlier rant was not noticeable, stop calling Chrome open source, it isn't, chromium is.
If you want Linux to reach end-customers, you need first and foremost to make it one single, stable (as in rarely changing)
, OS. After that you need to make it usable for people who never open options dialogs and have no clue what a terminal is. After that you need to actually have worthwhile software running on it (Microsoft Office, Flash, Photoshop, a decent media player, etc).
So, I take it you are going to start bundling Linux on laptops already, yes, for the Linux-ignorant: We already have all of those... Yep, even photoshop and MSoffice, and we had a couple of decent media players and flash working already... Terminal requirement? Check. Never open option dialogs? I take it that's the reason they aren't bundling windows either...
I'd like to mention, that nothing there is an excuse for the MS tax, I for one am not interested in companies bundling Linux, I don't want other consumers to use it either , they would just install it if they wish to... I just want FREAKING COMPUTERS THAT DON'T FORCE ME TO CHOOSE SPECIFIC SOFTWARE! Yes, that's right, as in... don't bring a freaking OS! Is it that hard? So, you are afraid of testing and development and support... ok... Just keep those laptops you know they work with windows, and make them available without the MS tax, I'll handle the installing and all, you don't even have to make them publicly available, just add a checkbox so we can remove the OS when ordering... How about you do this and consumers will even be able to install their non-OEM windows! Sounds crazy eh?
because people simply won't know how to do things
Why on earth were they advertising the Linux setup to normal people that don't know how to do things? If you say they bought it because it is cheaper, then you just contradicted the rest of your post...
It's beneficial for 99% of consumers too of course.
Aw go to hell, monopolies are never beneficial for consumers, they may appear more convenient but the convenience is just the monopoly in disguise preventing consumers from choosing .
But at the same time, is this "Microsoft tax" really an issue?
Hell yeah? I am sorry, but I am not interested in giving money to a company that did not make the software I'll be using and that will most likely use that money on more random attacks against the software I do use...
The year of Linux in the desktop has already passed, did you expect firefox or some notarized affidavit from all users in the world that they are switching? It doesn't work like that...
I have actually not had a flash crash in my whole Linux experience that started when I installed breeze on 2006...
I mean, really... Is this whole stuff about flash crashing just plain hysteria? Or is it someone that happened to some guy and Linux basher everywhere just repeat like parrots?
SUCH A GREAT FIND! google's service ToS say the same they did last day, I take it is very hard to understand that when you want google to host your stuff you are... giving google the right to host it, and that google would rather not have you suing them if after they restore a backup a file you deleted comes back... Oh sorry, "google is der evil!"
They have replaced with iframe with a bogus tag and a 1x1 image, that or those things were already there and they just removed the iframe, guess they noticed an iframe is too obvious. Anyway... http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=954963&cid=24893539
It is all part of the plan! This is actually another ad! bewware!

As a Chrome port, it fails, according to CodeWeaver's fact itself.
As a proof of concept, it fails, since it is not FOSS.
As a proof of concept, it is scary because the last thing we need is google thinking they would get away with "porting" chrome picasa-like ...
As a WINE advert it is ok, well, almost mediocre.
Buy once, pay everywhere!

"We don't keep the IPs, we promise"
Should probably do something about OpenOffice portable (windows) showing the GPL as if it was an EULA when you intall it...
There, I just quoted a part of the GPL out of context.
You know, I've always been the utmost firefox advocate, but even I think the best choice for canonical would be using iceweasel instead, this is ridiculous, EULA = Not free software, period. The goal is to accomplish something that's already possible?
More monopoly! Yay!
I'd say that under google's perspective, the core is the Javascript VM.

Let the companies that are still offering Linux get your purchase instead of Lenovo. Simple as heck. Everex is looking good imho.

Perhaps: http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=957281&cid=24924981
meh? I thought it was argumentum ad awardium or proof by offering a money award... Hey, even telekinesis skeptics use it...
