Even if that's not possible, one can always do something with the propietary video players to send the video output to a 'friendly' format encoder app instead of the screen.

  9. Re:the point of the GPL on GPL Causing Problems for Derivative Linux Distros · · Score: 1

The objective of the GPL is to encourage people to share code but to maintain and update the code for the original software's benefits as opposed to encourage them to share and reuse the code. I don't really like this approach. I'd also like it to encourage people to share and reuse code. That's the reason I prefer the FreeBSD license over of the GPL. The one I use for my hobby from scratch projects is zlib though.

  12. Eye candy on Quake is 10 · · Score: 1

I've seen much of the advances on game development to be eye candy related rather than other things. These super graphics take most of the space. The executable files hardly take more than 1MB and the data won't go higher than 50MB . Latest games involve 2 GB of 3d models and skins. On the other hand, gameplay and such stuff hasn't really improved a lot in the latest 10 years. In fact one could argue that despite warcraft III's nice graphics its gameplay is far from matching starcraft. I have to say games are pushing towards the graphics way too much. There are still good games and so and so but the evolution in gameplay seems too small compared to the one I could witness before. The good thing is that modding is taking more importance than before that's really good. Probably the only good thing about the current state of video games, although MMORPGS menace to kill modding.

What's Myspace supposed to do? Require users to take an personality test that could tell if they are sexual harassers before registering?

It is not like they could sue the phone company for letting a harasser contact her. Another "guilty" institutions are both email services for letting the harasser write mail to the teenager

With the help of good libraries C++ can easily achieve the Cross Platform status which is by far the most important feature of interpreted languages

You might argue that you need a garbage collector to type your code, but that's not really true and even so if you plan to make a big project with c++ you can always make your own memory manager
