A hardware firewall is just a dedicated piece of hardware used as a firewall as opposed to a software application firewall running on a user machine. A piece of hardware dedicated to firewall software. Not a big deal, so don't get your panties all in a bunch, Mr. Rant.
I'm sure Web 2.0 may be making certain things easier, but SOS will have a much greater impact on IT. Once you see SOS consolidate and wrap Web 2.0 packages into their service you'll see little need for in-house IT. However, it's obvious and everyone knew it was coming, so I'm not sure if it's a big deal or news.
It was several years ago using two IPCOP machines. It worked, but we constantly lost connection. It was during the time when Comcast wanted people to pay $95 for business access with VPN. Apparently it's changed, but I'm still skeptical.
Comcast also limits or eliminates VPN traffic unless you have a business account. I've used it with limited success and finally realized they're going to make you pay the extra $50 if you want complete VPN access. Find out about it here.
Comcast - We will control all that you see and hear
Easy enough to write an applescript to bypass that, which I've done.
It's ugly, but it works and you can add it to your dvd applescript menu:
tell application "DVD Player" activate set viewer full screen to true try -- use try to bypass the FBI warning, menu's etc. play dvd set title to 1 set chapter to 1 end try (* The following will wait for DVD's that refuse to bypass the intro's and jump to the beggining. Annoying!*)<br> delay [3] if title is not equal to 1 then repeat until active dvd menu is equal to main go to main menu delay [15] end repeat go return to dvd end if (* The following will be used for odd dvd's like Questar Documentarys's they don't start with the standard title, they start with title 2 or something different. *) delay [30] set oddTitle to 2 -- check to see if we're still on the main menu page if dvd menu active is equal to true then repeat until dvd menu active is equal to false set title to oddTitle set oddTitle to oddTitle + 1 end repeat end if end tell
do something about it. I wrote the FCC this morning pleading my case as why they should not relax regulations. I explained the lack of service and choices currently available. I went a step farther by asking them to reevaluate the ownership of tax payer funded lines and lines which reside on public/government property. Wether what I wrote makes a difference in their decision making or not, I at leased voiced my opinion.
The lawsuit will only become valid if they can prove that Apple maliciously bricked the phones and removed said software. If you can't prove that it's a malicious act, you have no case.
So you'll have to figure out wether the firmware actually rewrites the existing firmware or wether it just updates it. We already know that all your applications are rewritten, so that's not the issue. If it rewrites it and bricks your phone, then most likely it was malicious, if it updates it, then your hack was the problem.
Now if only this would catch on... we might actually see laws that are representative of what the people want instead of some asshole with a few hundred thousand dollars more than they should have in their pocket. Your idea makes sense if everybody is honest. However, you run into people creating bots that start representing one kook's idea of a good thing. That's one argument for and against anonymous web browsing. What's to stop some foreigner from trying to recreate public policy. If you had some form of local physical registration and then could use your user name and passcode to express your opinions, that would give a little more control. However, you're still eliminating a significant portion of the population that doesn't use the internet.
I think a better or an additional idea is to have a centralized site that has a simplified way to look up the way your representatives vote on issues and their attendance records. They would also have to give a detailed explanation of why they voted the way they did. They should also have professional non political writers summarize each proposed law with arguments from two angles. This would allow the common person to really judge their representative by his/her actions as opposed to his or her BS.
They could take advantage of Amazon, iTunes and NBC site. Then viewers will have a choice. Go to Amazon or iTunes and pay for it without commercials or download it free from NBC. That really starts to give the consumer options.
Perhaps you don't understand that I don't want to have to keep load the ringtones every time Apple decides to update the product. Yes I don't like ATT and I've seen lots of mods. But the last thing I want is to have to reload the stuff if Apple develops a firmware update the breaks it. That type of situation is a pain in the ass.
You make is sound like everything is just a cakewalk, but it's not. My gf is non-technical, so I have to do all the hacks for her. Funny thing is, she's the PC user and i'm the mac user. As I said, I'm waiting to see how things turn out. If this continues to be an ongoing battle that breaks certain things every time there's an update, then I'll pass until the phone has most of what I want.
Your fanboyism doesn't make me want it any more, just the opposite.
My girlfriend bought me one for my birthday, but I told her to return it. It's not that I don't want one, but with all the restrictions and constant updates and the breaking of ring-tones, I'll take the wait and see approach. I don't care to pay for all the extra nick nacks. You pay a load for a device so don't load it with a shitload of pay for service features. I prefer Apple to open her up a little more and if they don't I'll pass and take the red pill.
Yes, I don't think it's about the money for the plaintiff. They need a number to make them take notice, but he's suing for the principal of the matter which I believe is most important.
I agree, this is flame-bait. The study was conducted by NYU and UCLA, printed in the LATimes and commented on by someone from UC Berkeley who states:
Frank J. Sulloway, a researcher at UC Berkeley's Institute of Personality and Social Research who was not connected to the study, said the results "provided an elegant demonstration that individual differences on a conservative-liberal dimension are strongly related to brain activity."
Of course the story will have a slant if UC Berkeley (bizerkely) and the LA Times are involved. I think most level headed people are smart enough to know that extreme liberals and conservatives have a vastly different thought processes, but then again they are both very similar, they're crazy.
I have iWork 08 and while it's very cool, it can't be used for heavy lifting. Large documents with lots of embed tables crashes Pages and Numbers becomes dog slow with several large tables. You also cannot dynamically link numbers tables to pages documents. Numbers doesn't have any built in scripting.
If you have a small paper, you can use the iWork programs, but anything that's a little more serious you cannot.

He's just lucky his first name isn't "Richard," because then we would know just what kind of Zucker he really is.
As long as the ads get what she looks like right and that she must obey all my commands, I'm fine with it.

I gave up a while back. Perhaps I should try again to see if I have better luck.

if all nations efforts were put to projects like this and not to MOAB's and FOAB's. I'll keep smoking my pipe dream.

Okay you can doubt what you will and I can't prove it to you nor am I going to try, but I think your idea is a good one.
In fact an application like that would be really cool especially if it could download the rehacks. Good luck with that.

Yes, but MS does it in an annoying way (as to control everything you see and hear) and the other guys do it in a fun and useful way.
and the misses is CmdrTunaTaco?!?!

That is a big WTF. I'm surprised that preview doesn't have it. It's odd since it's really easy to add if you use Apples development tools.
My biggest complaints with numbers:
- No Apple Script Support - an Apple application with no AppleScript support WTF????
- No Dynamic Linking between Numbers and Pages - This killed it for me.
- Extremely extreeeemly slow. - I could take a nap...
- Numerous Bugs. - It's version 1, but damn...
However, it's a nice spreadsheet app and once they fix/add features, it'll be a welcome replacement for MS Office.
