If the US was smart, strike and agreement with Cuba, given them decent pipe access via Florida so long as they put 1 million uncensored PCs on it in say 2-3 years. That will reach 1 in 11 Cubans. Free flow of information is a true friend of democracy.
Therein lays the problem - The US and Cuba are still not up for much agreements. In fact, it stuns me when there is any form of talks between the leader of Cuba and the President of the US.
Here is my 10 cents (my two cents is free): I think that since the Cuban government is in the process of a transition, perhaps now is the time the US consider lightening up the embargo and restrictions. It is not like the embargo or anything the US has done thus far has fazed the Cuban government. Granted, they don't have nukes but that ceased to be a problem a long time ago. Perhaps with these changes, the US can establish a rapport with the new Cuban government. The fact the Cuban government is starting to do some changes is a good sign.
Mind you, there is some bad blood between the US and the Cubans. Despite the changes, nothing seen thus far seems to show the fact it will go away any time soon. However, if the Cuban people can get their hands on a PC, Mac, or whatever modern things, perhaps it is a sign that the Cuban government is starting to warm up to the eventual possibility of opening talks.
I have to say way to go for NewYorkCountryLawyer to have the balls for telling it like it is to the VP of the RIAA. The fact that an Australian professor also agreed to the statements should have been a wake up call to Kenneth Doroshow that these tactics are ludicrous.
However, it probably went in one ear of Dorshow and out the other. Sadly greed and power tend to block things like common sense and intelligence.
The problem here for the spammer is - Spam can't be considered protected under the First Amendment. The reason being is while he has the right to look like an ass clown, I have the right to just ignore it. However, as in the case of spam, I can't just walk away - it is sent to me whether I want it or not.
All I can say is that karma is a bitch. He probably is regretting all the Viagra emailers he sent right about now...
Does anybody remember that this was done with the original Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicom? Yeah, it's lame that their punishment is to have the victims "spend" money. However when the legal water is uncharted, I guess the law can only get away with a slap on the wrist.
First let me say that I am sorry for your loss. I agree though that there is no ethical dilemma here because the family is asking for answers and your friend isn't here anymore to answer them.
I suggest that you do look into your friend's computer and definitely get a court order to help get info from gmail and hotmail. That would work in order to prove that this isn't some sort of elaborate hoax.
I sincerely hope that the answers will find resolution for yourself and the family of your friend.
Should the government have the right to even be on Wikipedia making edits? Isn't that similar to them controling any other media outlet?
Or does the 'openness' of wiki mean that the government is justified in making changes to whatever articles they want?
I personally don't want them even touching it, or influencing any media outlet.
I think honestly freedom of speech applies to all including the Department of Justice and the Government.
Before you downgrade me please hear me out. I am NOT saying that they should do as they please and go censor happy. I am NOT saying that they are right to override the community. What I am saying is that they deserve the same right to post and change things like anybody else or myself. They should be given no special treatment whatsoever and if they want special treatment, THEN they should be banned or at least be told that they will get no special treatment.
Freedom of Speech is a two way street and always has been. I think the government should be allowed to speak its mind like everybody else. It is only when I can't be allowed to walk away from it or can only hear its side when problems arise.
I agree fully.. furthermore I find it insulting that the RIAA blames something it does not understand for the decreased sales in music. Lets forget music as of late isn't all that great and people are wanting to spend money elsewhere. The RIAA's thoughts are - "By [Insert deity here or leave blank if you are an athiest]! Music sales are in the toilet and we must get our money somehow! So lets extort and not improve the quality of music!"
Now I can't say the MPAA can say similar things like the RIAA because last year was a "Banner Year" for movies. So the MPAA can't really truthfully say... oh wait, THEY STILL SAY PIRACY HAS DECREASED SALES DESPITE A BANNER YEAR!
This goes to show that the RIAA does not have anything but its own interest in mind. Eventually I hope and we all hope this will be what ends their idiotic campaign.
Goes to prove that, despite the fact he in fact had a lawyer the old saying "A man who represents himself in a court of law has a fool for a client" is proven true here.
If I were his lawyer, I would have slapped him upside the head and told him to STFU. Of course if he was his own lawyer and did that.. Well, it would have proven this guy needed to plead "Nutty as squirrel crap".
Like Booger said on "Revenge of the Nerds" - WONDER JOINTS! Play some Thriller and post it on YouTube... then pray to [insert deity here or leave blank if you are an atheist] that you don't get busted for weed or sued because I laughed my arse off!
First and foremost sir, I really cannot give you sympathy since this is a verbatim copy of a previous post you did. I feel you are not being honest to the/. community. Now if you are being honest, my sincere apology is in order.
I feel though that you exercised bad judgment by doing what you did to those kids. All you did was make them go elsewhere to get CDs to put on the net - that is all. Ultimately, you stopped nothing. Now this would be the part where I would say "If you were to black list everybody who openly said in your store they were going to put the music on the net, you would be out of business in no time". However it looks like you are finding this out without anybody telling you. It can't get any more obvious than this.
The internet and piracy is not what is killing the music industry or businesses like yours. What is killing it is the lack of control and accountability the RIAA has, the negligence people like yourself have to change with the times, and just generally bad products coming out lately from the music industry. The final statement being what I strongly think is the culprit. Since music is not showing any new or interesting/creative things, there are fewer people wanting to go out and buy. Coupled by the fact the US economy is in or heading towards a recession, there is just a general lack of motivation to get a $15 CD that only has one song on it worth hearing.
I don't necessary think what you are saying is 100% accurate. IMHO and if you look into the history of Blake's 7 - it too suffered a premature death as well. In fact the final season was done by another writer and was originally suppose to end the season prior. While I do agree that the "suits" need to quit rehashing old concepts (both on the small and on the big screen), I also think it will be interesting to see how time and new blood will tell the old tale.
That is true. However, the big killers here in the US is heart disease and lung cancer. These two may have some genetic links but also have a great deal of environmental and lifestyle links. Granted, there are a lot of diseases that cannot be avoided because of genetics. Still, you can avoid (in part) things like lung cancer by not smoking or eating right to avoid heart disease.
What I am trying to express is that insurance companies, should they get what they want in part, need to look at the whole picture. They shouldn't care if you have a risk of getting a disease that one in a million and look at what is more probable in addition to how one lives. If your job is to mow lawns on land mine fields but have no genetic risk for any serious health risks, you ought to pay more for insurance than somebody who has genetic risks but is a total health nut.
Here is the only thing that everybody is missing - Gene Testing only says that a person is likely to have a disorder based on genes. Having a genetic disposition for say, heart disease, only means you have an increased risk for heart disease. If you eat right, exercise, and all that good stuff then your odds of dying from heart disease are drastically reduced. Therefore, being discriminated based on GT alone is not a good idea for determining accurate rates.
Just three simple words to secure your laptop - SMITH AND WESSON. The security is guaranteed not to rust, bust, collect dust, wither, bag, or sag at the knees!
My whole perception of this is: How can it be done and why is it not being done? I am sure the blind would like to use the internet and I am positive that there is ways to accommodate the blind for the net without the need to up heave the 'tubes.
What springs to mind is an old Butthole Surfer song "Pepper" lyric "You never know just how you look through other people's eyes" It's like this - whether something is ethical or not takes a back seat when you are at the receiving end of an inequity. I think that there has to be something that can let the blind use the net. Since most of the net is visual, that is the biggest hindrance the blind have. So why not make a program or setting on a web browser make sites audible or something?
I guess for us who are able to take sight for granted its no big deal... till we are unfortunate enough to lose our vision and realize how blind we were all along.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure not to ask for them now!

If that is true, then by that judgment I must be the the most "amplified" man on Earth!
I don't know about the rest of you.. but I say Bring it on!
Well she is heir to all that cash now. So I imagine that $687,000 won't hurt her much.

I figured... It kind of sounded phony when I first read it. However, seeing a verbatim copy pretty much shot the credibility out of the water.

About as well as the space program is already, I would wager...
